Body Shell - 100% hypoallergenic 2 to 3 oz (1.2 mm - 1.4 mm) thick Full Grain chrome tanned leather. This is the best part of the leather. And, our leather isn't "buttery soft" (fibers separated and broken down by hours of tumbling and stretching at the tannery).
Liner - Made with stiff pigskin to keep it's body. Pigskin has the 2nd toughest tensile strength rating of leathers. Kangaroo is the toughest.
Construction- Made from as few large pieces of leather as possible. Seams are the weakest point and so the fewer the better. It would be much cheaper for us to make it with lots of smaller pieces, but it's the quality details such as this that separates us from the masses.
Thread- The double zero continuous-filament Polyester thread we use is a little thicker than what is used on most boots. It's impressive and expensive. Common thread is made of short little fibers wound together into one long thread. This thread is made of long continuous fibers that won't fall apart in a strong wind. Polyester thread is the only thread I know of that doesn't deteriorate with exposure to sun.

Where can I see one of these totes in person?
I don't have any of the items in stores and we're not big fans of folks coming to our home because of the weirdo factor. My sister, Patricia, and her husband (my Chess and Scrabble nemesis) send out the leather from their place near Ft. Worth, Texas. But again, because of the weirdo factor, they don't want you dropping by there either. If it helps, everyone tells me that they're much more impressed with them in person.
Which color should I get?
Honestly, if you can, you should collect all four so that you can wear the one that matches what you're wearing. But if you're only going to pick one, pick the color that fits who you are. Absolutely not! With some pigs we do use waterboarding and sensory deprivation techniques previous to slaughtering them, but the cows do not require any special handling.
How much do these leather things cost you, Dave? Well, I lived for three years in a $100 a month apartment in Mexico with no hot water, because of these bags. My dog, Blue, and I drove for thousands of hours all over the North American continent because of these bags. I had a crooked Federale sent to kill me because of these bags (I convinced him that Senor Alarcon would never pay him) and we became friends). I've shed gallons of blood and tears and sweat and at least a quart of other people's, because of these bags. I've slept in my car or on the rack of my old Land Cruiser at least 150 times because of these bags. I've lost weeks of sleep and have gone hungry for days because of these bags. I was broke for years and even had to trade two of Blue's little puppies for a month's worth of tacos in order to eat because of these bags. I've been detained by who knows how many Mexican police because of these bags. I've thrown away thousands of dollars and made hundreds of mistakes because of these bags. I've been stolen from, taken advantage of and robbed because of these bags (they even stole Blue once, but I got him back). All of these things and more have happened to me because of these bags. Awesome Craftmanship
I thought about purchasing this bag for a very long time. I'm embarrassed to say that I bought this bag and returned it after a week, thinking that I could not possibly justify paying this amount of money for a tote. Thankfully, my awesome husband told me to re-purchase and enjoy it! Well, I'm glad he convinced me because this bag is one of the best leather bags I've ever owned. It is a heavy, durable bag. I have had the bag for almost a month and I'm still working on "breaking it in". I've been using it to take to work. I place my work-issued 14" HP laptop, power cord, makeup bag, bottle of water and other incidentals. It will hold a lot of stuff. However, it can get heavy! I just returned from vacation in Seattle and used it as a "catch all" bag for souvenirs, water, etc. It fit under the airline seat as well. Again, once it "softens", it will be that much more enjoyable to carry around. I truly love the bag and I'm glad I purchased the larger one.
Stared at this bag for a year before buying...
It took me a solid year to commit to this bag, for a lot the same reasons I see people mentioning below. I got the large tote in Chesnut a month ago though Dave's Deals, and I have to say I'm really happy with it. I can't even tell what the defect was, which really speaks to their quality control. I'd bought a wallet and backpack for other family members through here before, so I was confident in leather quality. I couldn't decide between the large and the small, but I'm glad I went with the large.
The pros: Wonderfully made, sturdy, gorgeous color. I'm excited to see how this purse will age, and I already get lots of compliments on it. Well worth the price. The pigskin liner is great and is super easy to clean.
That being said, it is a heavy purse. I'm still glad I got the large size, but it is heavy. From a proportion standpoint, I don't think it looks too big when I carry it though. The handles are just slightly too big for my hand to carry the purse this way for long periods, so I find myself using the straps most. My only other complaint is the phone pocket is too small.
Mother's Day Surprise!
My son has several Saddleback pieces and I always tell him how much I love them. They're all amazing! A couple of months ago he was showing me his luggage he was planning on purchasing and I casually mentioned that I liked the small tote when I saw it on the site. This Mother's Day I was surprised to receive the small Dark Coffee Brown tote as one of my gifts! I love, love, love it! I'll never have to buy another pocket book in my life - this one will be with me every where I roam - And the great thing about it is - the older it gets, the better it's going to look! Perfect tote!!
I contemplated buying this tote for what seemed like forever but finally took the plunge on the large dark coffee brown tote a few months ago. I was expecting wonderful, it is Saddleback, but I was blown away! The bag is gorgeous, feminine but edgy! I love the mobile phone pocket and the key keeper, very convenient. I also love that I don't have a bunch of fussy pockets but instead lots of space for my own little make up bag, medicine and eye drop bag, big wallet and kindle. I use the side pocket for pepper spray and mini flashlight. The shoulder strap is so comfortable whether or not I wear it cross body or as a shoulder bag (I'm 5'5, 145 lbs). The handles are smooth and comfortable and easy to grab and go. I was so impressed with this bag that I bought another one in tobacco shortly after from Dave's deals! Crazy I know but I love this bag and I'm seriously considering a carbon black one too! If you are on the fence, jump off! It's worth every penny!
Now my dooneys and coaches are on eBay or already sold! Now it's Saddleback for me!
Fantastic Bag!
I was hesitant to buy this bag because I am a designer type of girl, but my husband convinced me to try this instead of the Louis Vuitton I wanted (also much cheaper). I have to admit it is the best bag I have owned. Very comfortable on my shoulder, holds all the stuff I need for 3 kids and the quality is outstanding. I have worn out 2 Kate Spades, 1 Louis Vuitton, and a Burberry bag using them on a daily basis with kids for the past 10 years. This bag was a fraction of the cost of all of those and is guarrenteed for 100 years! It will not wear out, even with my busy life style. I have gotten many compliments on it. I would tell anyone considering this bag to give it a try, you won't regret it!

I love leather. After owning several Saddleback pieces, I've become educated that leather varies in quality. There is also a huge difference in the skill if the artisans who craft it. I've been admiring the tote for over a year. The price was a deterrent, but also I was concerned about the weight of the bag. I finally took the plunge and bought the chestnut from Dave's Deals. Absolutely no regrets! The weight of the bag is a non-issue. The shoulder straps magically distribute the weight when carrying. It's one of the most comfortable bags I own. The raw underside of the strap, plus the metal nipple to keep the 2 straps together- incredibly thoughtful. Strap stays on the shoulder perfectly. Also love the simple, open design. I bought the small tote for my wife as an anniversary gift. It is perfect. She is 5ft tall and it is great for everyday use. It's thick but not too heavy. Just enough room for her things and a couple things for our toddler. If you like to carry lunch and a bunch of extra toy may want to go with the large. Very happy with this purchase
Beauty and Function
Leather love! Bought my tobacco large tote soon after it's debut and it has patinaed to perfection. Perfect size for everyday use and travel. Easily carries my other leather beauties; large bible cover used as a notebook cover and leather makeup bag and Lana Clutch wallet (snapped up over at Love41). I've also kept some extra baby wipes and a diaper between the liner and the tote - very clever design Suzette!
Get compliments all the time and it truly gets more remarkable with each years passing.
Best Tote Bag Ever
I bought my large TB tote when they first came out and it was the best purchase ever. I use it all the time and get more and more compliments on it. I am 5'3" and the large is a great size for me. My only suggestion would be to make a larger cell phone pocket. I cannot get the iPhone 5 with the cover into it, so my cell phone sometimes falls to the bottom of the bag. Love my tote
I have had my tote for almost a year now. It's #1 on my list of favorite things. Sometimes when I'm sitting on my couch, I will get my bag and sit it next to me. Just to be near it. It's oddly comforting, yet a little disturbing how much I love my tote. I just wish I would have gotten the bigger one. I also have the large wallet, the coasters and I just bought my husband a belt, and the little ID wallet. Great great product. Well designed and very sturdy. Saving up for the large piece of luggage. ;)
Just the right size!
I fell in love with this bag after I saw it when purchasing my Saddleback iPad cover. I was hesitant to buy it because I am 5'2" and thought it would be to big for me to carry. After almost two years, I finally made the decision to buy it. I have only had for two days and I am in love! It's perfect...it fits under my arm perfectly and I love the handle. My only suggestion, I would love to have a smaller companion pouch to use along with the one attached for other small things.
Other than that, I recommend this purse to all small and petite women!!!!

Fabulous Tote!
My husband spoiled me with a small Tobacco tote for Christmas. Oh my is it ever nice! First of all, quality, no question about it, the quality is incredible. Second, it is unique, I have used Coach bags in the past, let me tell you this tote by far is better!
I have the small tote and feel it is the perfect size, my wallet, cell phone, make up, keys, reading glasses, and small ditty bag fit with room to spare. My gloves fit nicely on the top.

Will Last Forever
OK....so I am a Saddleback Fan. My husbund has the Lg Briefcase, Duffle Bag, Classic Travel Case and Bi-Fold Wallet. I have the Large Tote in Chestnut, Big Leather Wallet, ID Wallet and Clutch Purse. My sister-in-law has several of the small totes.
I have had my Large Tote for 1 1/2 years and it looks like new....It will take years of wear to get that worn in look. It is a wonderful product, solid, heavy and quality is next to no other. It is a breeze to clean inside, holds more than I would ever need. It can easily hold my laptop but just gets so heavy at full capacity that I try to keep it lightly packed.
Drawbacks for me are that the nipple rivet that holds the strap together can't be moved. When you lengthen the straps it will attach off center and tends to tangle up the straps. The other issue that I have is that the pocket for the cell phone in the small tote is too small for a larger smart phone. The large tote pocket fit my iPhone in a slim case but when I got a new Samsung phone with a sturdy case it will not come even close to fitting. The flap pocket is a little awkward to get in and out of, so I don't place items in it that I need all the time. Overall great products!
Love my small tote!
I have had my small tote and liner for one year and absolutely love it. The small is not too small and will hold a ton of stuff and doesn't overwhelm my 5'2" frame. I also love love love the tobacco color. Great bag and would definitely purchase again!
