The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) was founded in 1970 to support research for a Type 1 diabetes cure. Over the years they’ve raised a bunch of money and awareness for the cause. They’ve helped support research for improved treatment options and even the development of an artificial pancreas, which would pretty much cure Type 1 diabetes.
JDRF has made life better for a lot of people. One of those people is my niece Grace, who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of seven. JDRF is a great organization and we like to support them however we can. Last year a bunch of Saddleback employees took part in the Death Valley Ride For the Cure, which is a 100 mile bike ride across the desert. This year, I'll be joining them. We've also saved a couple spots for Saddleback Family members. Want to ride with us?
If you think you might be interested, write us a short essay (200 words or less) on why you'd like to ride a bike for 100 miles across the desert with me and the rest of Team Grace. Email it to customer service (ihaveaquestion@saddlebackleather.com) with "Century Ride" in the subject line by midnight, Texas time, on May 15, 2012. Airfare (including bike transport), lodging, and food will be included for the winner. All you have to do is show up with your bike and ride. And who knows, there might even be some leather thrown in too. Just keep in mind this is a 100 mile haul through Death Valley so if you just got your training wheels off, this may not be the ride for you.
If you can’t join us on the ride, you can still donate to the cause. Saddleback Leather is giving away a cool handmade leather bracelet to each person who makes a tax deductible donation to JDRF on Grace Chamberlain's page. The donations will sponsor Team Grace in the Death Valley Bike Ride. You won't just be doing this for Grace, but for millions of others around the world. The artificial pancreas project is near completion, but is relying on donations to fund the final stages of testing. So please join us in supporting this great cause.
