Get Involved with JDRF
The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) was founded in 1970 to find a cure for Type I Diabetes. Over the years they’ve raised a ton of money and awareness, supporting research for improved treatment options and even the development of an artificial pancreas, which would be a giant step toward a cure for Type I Diabetes.
JDRF has made life better for a lot of people. One of those people is my niece Grace, who was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of seven. JDRF is a great organization and we like to support them however we can.
This October, Saddleback is putting together a team for the JDRF Ride For the Cure Century Ride in Death Valley. Saddleback, TrueBlue (our manufacturing facility) and CSI (our shipper, owned by Grace’s mom) have come together to pledge $80,000+ to our riding team. All that money will go directly toward JDRF’s ongoing artificial pancreas research. We still have a little ways to go toward that fundraising goal. Here’s how you can get involved:
Saddleback is giving away a cool handmade leather bracelet to each person who makes a tax-deductible donation to JDRF on Grace Chamberlain's page. Donations will sponsor Team Grace in this year’s Death Valley Ride for the Cure.
After you donate, Team Grace will be in touch to thank you and ask what color bracelet you would like. My sister Patricia Chamberlain (Grace's mom) sends out bracelets every Friday to those who’ve donated. If you don't receive a reply to your donation within 2-3 days please check your spam filter to make sure her email didn't go there. You can also reach her at email@example.com.
My Dad Herb is Selling Vintage Dave's Deals on eBay
My dad Herb is back selling vintage Saddleback Leather in our eBay store and we’re using those bag sales to support the JDRF pledge. Any piece that sells for up to its retail value, we’ll donate 10% of the sale. Any bag that sells for more than retail, we’ll donate 100% of that money to JDRF until our fundraising pledge is fulfilled. This isn’t a fundraising request, it’s just what I wanted to do with the sale of these bags. Usually I like to keep quiet about Saddleback’s involvement with causes and charities, but the point of all this is to raise awareness and get more people involved. You don’t even need to buy a bag to help. Head here to make a tax-deductible donation directly to JDRF.
Thank you for your support. Grace thanks you too. You won't just be doing this just for her, but for millions of others around the world like her suffering from this terrible disease.
