Who is the better traveling partner?
I've travelled hundreds of thousands of miles in cars with just my wife, Suzette, and with just my dog, Blue. Who is a better traveling partner?
Well, they both have their drawbacks, but why dwell on the negatives when the positives are so plentiful.
Pros to traveling with wife
Wife doesn't drool on the seat. Wife is sexy. Wife doesn't smell water three miles away and beg to go swimming EVERY SINGLE TIME. Wife is softer. Wife is warmer. Wife doesn't bark out windows. Wife really makes me laugh. Wife doesn't snore. Wife has ways to keep me awake on the road at night. Wife doesn't randomly itch and snort uncontrollably in the middle of the night. Wife smells better. Wife is nicer to look at. Wife doesn't hog the entire bed. Wife can hand me things while I'm driving. Wife is a good conversationalist. Wife points out cool stuff to see that I miss. Wife shares memories later. Wife doesn't shove her feet and nails into my back while I'm sleeping. Wife throws Frisbees back. Wife is entertaining. Wife doesn't get fleas. Wife doesn't need to sneak into hotel rooms.
Pros to traveling with dog
Dog food is cheaper than wife food. Dog is extremely patient. Dog is fine only visiting my side of the family every single time. Dog is a GREAT listener. Dog is fine with all my bad decisions. Dog can get ready in 3.2 seconds. Dog never complains. Dog only goes when we stop instead of we stop for him to go. Dog doesn't mind if we pull over for photography every 35 minutes. Dog is never mad at me. Dog scares bad people away (wife attracts them). Dog will sleep next to me in the car overnight. Dog sees no wrong. Dog doesn't need A/C or heat. Dog doesn't care if we're late. Dog plays Frisbee for hours. Dog doesn't hog the covers. Dog is never offended. Dog always thinks I'm the greatest thing since cheese stuffed pizza crust.

In the end, I'd have to say that the scales are tipping far to my wife's side. Traveling with Blue for all of those years was a blast, but traveling with Suzette is, hands down, the best. It's what I want to do for the rest of my life.

Found your company site in my search for the leather bag I have pictured in my head. I may have found it. I hope you feel lucky to have had such an awesome dog.

Your site cracks me up. Say nothing of the great bags. I am graduating law school soon - one of these is for sure on the top of my registry.

Hey Dave! Just wanted to let you know that I am away overseas on Navy orders...used holiday weekend to cross Rome and Bari with nothing but my Saddleback gear. Awesome. Note: Receiving bag compliments in foreign languages never gets old, buddy. I picked you up a few things at the Vatican and I'll send some pics of the same upon my return to the States. Ciao, Wade (P.S. For those new to the Saddleback family, you are in for a treat: Dave and his family are the real deal, and so are his products.)

Hi! I first visited your site several months ago in search for a gift for my husband who is finishing up a degree in youth ministry and you ended my search!! I figure this bag will withstand all of the youth camping trips, retreats, and other adventures he will be a part of . During the time I have been saving money for this purchase, I have been frequenting your website often trying to choose a bag for him(all of your options make it hard to choose!!). Thank you in advance for crafting a bag which I know he will cherish for a lifetime!

I was looking at your bags and ran across your story about Blue. What a blessing dogs are. We had to put our dear, 15 year old SharPei to sleep last year and that was very hard. He was such a good dog, great with the kids when they were small, and to this day is missed terribly.
Thank you for your story about Blue.

In my case, I would pick both or choose to not travel...our pups are like our kids. Part of the family for always.
Great stories & products - thanks for sharing...

Dave, you're an inspiration. Thanks for sharing your experiences. I'm sorry for your loss of a dear friend. You can learn much about a man's character by how he treats his dog.
And thanks for producing the finest leather bags available anywhere!

Lock you wife and dog in the trunk. Come back an hour later and see who's happy to see you! Wives and dogs are so GREAT that it's good to have both. I've had my wife for 30 years and counting. To lose either one would devastate me, so there's really no choosing. Of course the wife trumps the dog, if you get two beautiful daughters to sweeten the deal! Sorry about Blue, my condolences.

Dave, just wanted to say that your site is great and your products look even better. It looks like you've earned a faithful following through your products; I like that! Although I've yet to purchase the bags I want, I know I will in the near future... a new wife always comes first for a new husband!!!
Sincerely a faithful soon-2-be customer,

I'm glad you came to the conclusion you did, cuz sleeping on the couch indefinitely is no fun:)

I was looking for bags today, when I happened across your site and read your memorial for Blue. I lost my beloved Jenna to salmon poisoning a year ago today. She was my best friend through thick and thin, and the love of my life. Your story was very touching, and really hit home - it triggered the tears again, which I thought dried up earlier today. We didn't travel the states as much, but traveled Oregon together at every chance, and she always kept me safe. I wish I could have done the same for her. Thanks for sharing the deep love for your dog that I think many people feel, but are shy to admit.

Cool site.
Like you, I've been on a quest for the perfect bag and the perfect woman. Looks like I found both but I seem to have found the perfect woman first, which meant I had to buy her one of your bags too. Finding the perfect bag first would have been cheaper for me but these things happen.

Hi Dave , sorry to here about Blue He was a great friend i'm sure . I just purchased my 4th item from you this past week, 16 " briefcase in 04 an 18" briefcase and duffel in 08 and most recently a pouch. I have purchased several Ghurka bags, i've owned schlesinger Hartman, Jack Georges and several custom made bags. Nothing compares to the Saddle Back items i've owned. I hope you will choose one of my American Bulldogs as a companion some day. thanks Steve

Fought back the tears reading your stories about Blue. I'm sorry for your loss. On a brighter side ,at least he did not loose you first. Even tho I don't know you I cant imagine Blue being alone without you , can you? Also what the heck do you think he was growling at near the river in New Mexico? What year was it? For some reason it comes to mind the terrorists that no one seems to remember that came over the border around that area were all militarily geared up all blacked out they killed several Border Patrol agents. It was caught on some border cam out there I get the feeling Blue saved your lives that day/night any way here is a cool tip I made out of desperation or necessity "I had an old wheelbarrow with a flat tire, but the replacement tire was far away and I needed to finish the job then and there, besides the bolts had rusted onto the wheelbarrow, so I couldn't get the tire off without snapping it. So I drilled a hole in the tire and sprayed expanding foam insulation inside till it was full. Last resort test " I didn't expect this to work at all , but it's made it through one season so far with over 400lbs in it at one time.

Dave - Just read your tribute to Blue...I read it aloud to a friend and cried through most of it...we put down our best friend in February, Maggie - a 15 1/2 year old Chessie. Your tribute brought back some great memories - Thank you.
I found your web site looking for Made In America products and will put the back pack on my upcoming Christmas list.
Best to you and your family, thanks again for sharing (my black lab Jake, adopted from hurricane Katrina loved it too).

Hi Dave,
I came across your site and despite the fact that I was originally looking for a briefcase that would be more wall street than route 66, the personality that speaks through all this won me over. Add in the great sense of humor, the people (and pets) first-gear later attitude I sense in Lammy-videos, references to your wife (and, i admit, the Defender!) tipped the scale. I am looking forward to receiving my bag and hope you keep all this goodness, words and goods, coming.
thanks and best regards from the old worlde.

Tears and joy
I read of your adventures with Blue and I couldn't help but stop my tears. My Golden (Buzz Lightyear ...RIP 8/29/09) and I shared many adventures, 7 hurricanes, swimming in the caribbean, open sea kayaking, miles and miles on the F-150 and his mischiefs like passing gas under the covers. Yeah, I miss him.... I know he is in Dog Heaven ....waiting.
One thing for sure, I will buy a briefcase. Exactly what I've been searching for the last 20 years.
God bless your family,
Hugo Benitez

Hey Dave,
I've been enjoying my bag I bought from you awhile back. Im currently in the Army taking night classes at Chaminade University in Honolulu. I get complements from everyone at work and class. This is by far one of my prized "material" possessions. Family is always first, I see from your site you know what I mean. Take care.
P.S. Im looking forward to you getting more wallets in stock. I need to replace this junk I have now.

Dave,
Been collecting really interesting bags for years--a prize is an old doctor's bag from Italy. Would love your black with brass fittings AND steel (?) fittings, to match my jewelry, of course. I travel a fair amount, but in the day-to-day use these bags constantly, always amazed at what conversation starters they turn out to be. It seems no one expects a fairly petite, coporately dressed woman in high heels to carry something that looks like Hemingway slept with it in Africa.
Will place an order when I get a reply and would order both if you offered me black brief with steel and one with brass....would even pay a customization fee (how fair is that???)
Kindly and very best wishes for you and family on this adventure called life.

At last.... after months of drooling over the briefcase and trying to rationalize getting for myself this piece of art work I did it.
Now I just sit and wait like a nervous dog double waggin' his tail waiting for that bacon treat!!!

Thank you for the wonderful story about Blue; seems both of you were fortunate to have found each other. Same goes for you and Suzette too.
As for your products, I just purchased my first one, a wallet--can't wait to get it. I've owned a lot of other brands and none have held up. Your warranty sealed the deal. Later this year I'll be back to buy more.
Keep up the good work.

Hi Dave,
I have made up my mind. I'm in an urgent need of a black satchel :-).
I bought a briefcase from you three years ago and it gets more and more beautiful for each day that pass! However, a smaller bag will be a great compliment to my briefcase. Just waiting for info about shipping costs...
Best regards from Sweden!

Dave, I just received a Saddleback leather sleeve for my iPad. I wanted to share that it is the best case I have found for the iPad. It's thin, protective, easy to use and will look better the more I use it. I already carry a MacBookPro and Dell laptop for international business travel. I am hoping to leave the MacBookPro at home and present from the iPad. I needed a thin, protective sleeve that would hold up to extensive airline and international travel. Your leather iPad sleeve is the solution I've been searching for. It makes other company's sleeves look like low quality imitators. Now I'll need to take another look at your briefcases. Don't keep your iPad sleeve a secret.
