SKU: #01-40-0004"... Saddleback Leather no longer discriminates against any cow on the basis of age, appearance, lactose intolerance... if the beast has a natural marking or brand, or whether or not they worship the Divine Bovine."
Truth is, sometimes beauty is only skin deep... like with cows. Their poetry is notoriously terrible, but man, their hides are nature's art. We don't believe that flawlessness equals beauty. Beauty is when we're able to see something as it really is.
This is true with humans too. There are lots of quality people who are really beautiful not in spite of, but because of the marks life has given them.
I was living in Morelia, Michoacán teaching English back in 1999 when I decided to go by myself to the Dia de los Muertos festival in Patcuaro, about 30 minutes away.
So there I am at this festival, standing on the corner deciding which way to go when I see this friendly looking white guy with a big huge smile on his face. I took a few steps over to him, stuck my hand out and said, “Hi, I’m Dave.” He responded, “Hey, I’m Jimmy.” To make a long story longer, we really hit it off and became great friends. We even ended up hitchhiking all over Mexico together.
You see, you don’t need money, or even a wallet, to travel around, make lifelong friends and have real good times. You just need to decide to go and then go. But if you are going to own one, you may as well get one of these. It’s my personal favorite and doesn’t take up too much space, but it doesn’t work so well with British Pound notes.

RFID would make this wallet perfect!
by N | 1/4/2016 8:11 pm
I received a black ID Wallet this Christmas. It is my first Saddleback item that isn't in Tobacco, Chestnut, or Dark Coffee Brown but it is fitting in nicely with the rest of my Saddleback items. It holds a whole stack of membership cards as well as my Metrocard, which is great because when I'm commuting I prefer not to pull out my whole wallet as much as possible. One thing that would make this ID wallet perfect is if it had RFID protection, especially since it is meant to be used for credit cards. Because this lacks RFID protection, I don't think I'll be using it to carry anything more than membership cards, my Metrocard, and maybe some cash.
Oh, and I don't know if it's because I received an older design, but the card slots of my ID wallet do NOT have the nice stitching across the slots. If only I had made this purchase myself, I probably would have returned it for one with stitching...

I purchased this wallet and the Bi-Fold at the same time. I use the Bi-Fold as my primary wallet, if I go walking or fishing, then I use this wallet. It works good but tight, since I don't use it all the time, it hasn't broken in good yet. When I use this wallet, I only bring my ID and Debit card and usually keep a $20 folded up in the middle. This was my 2nd SBL purchase and I couldn't be happier with it.
3 Year Review and issue with holding money
by David - verified purchaser | 1/1/2016 1:48 am
I purchased the Carbon Black ID wallet three years back. Since then I've bought several other Saddleback wallets but I always come back to this one. Carbon Black takes a while to age, but once it does, its awesome. One thing I'd like to comment on is the issue some folks have had with holding cash. This actually isn't an issue if some work is done to stretch out the center pocket. Try taking three or four club, casino or old credit cards and stuff them all the way down as far as they can go. Note there is a stitching line about a quarter of an inch from the bottom so it may catch. Get past that line and keep the cards there for at least 3 days. A week is better. After that, you should be able to easily slide 3-5 bills down the center without issue and the money will fit without sticking out at the top. I own an ID wallet in every color and this method has worked on all of them. Give it a shot and your ID wallet will be holding cash (folded only once) without any issue!!
Best quality!

If you travel minimally, your search is over--this is all you'll ever need and one will last you as long as you're going to last. Unfortunately, it doesn't hold enough junk for most people. Driver's license, ID card, couple of credit cards, health insurance card, warehouse club store card, AAA card, etc., etc. and you've maxed out this little thing.
The trick... well, not so much a trick... is to use both. If you know you're not going to need ALL the junk we have to carry, grab this, stick it in your front pocket, and you're good to go. A trip to the store, going to the gym--this is perfect.
This stuff is awesome

I love this stuff best quality ever. I have purcahsed my chritmas wallets for next year for sure.
Great wallet
by anonymous - verified purchaser | 7/24/2014 9:12 am
This is my current daily carry wallet. It's pretty much exactly what you'd expect given the description in the video. It's light, but sturdy, and beautiful.
I keep 5 cards, plus my driver's licence and a thin insurance card in it right now, and it's snug. I imagine I could put a lot more in it, and the leather would stretch to accommodate them. Heck, it had to stretch a bit to accommodate what I have in it right now, but it did so beautifully.
I slip it into my back pocket, but I imagine that other people would be comfortable throwing it into a bag (or purse if you're so inclined), put into a front pocket, a shirt pocket...really anything.
All in all, I'm impressed with it, and you probably will be, too.
Simple, Beautiful
by anonymous - verified purchaser | 7/24/2014 9:12 am
This wallet is great, simple, and beautiful. It is a huge downsize from my previous wallet, which has been so great. It fits so discretely in my pocket, but fits everything I need. And it takes almost no time to remove it from my pocket and pull out cash or a card. But obviously the best part is that it will last such a long time. I love buying a saddleback product and knowing that I won't have to buy a replacement. But I've definitely gifted plenty of saddleback items, that's for sure.
A real game changer
by anonymous - verified purchaser | 7/24/2014 9:12 am
I'd been a diehard "Costanza wallet" fan for years. I lived out of my leather bifolds/trifolds, even as they got bigger and bigger, became more uncomfortable to sit on and wore out the back packets of several suit trousers.
Then I began to notice that frequently when my kids demanded cash (as kids do these days) I didn't have any. Not that I was broke, but I just didn't have any in my wallet. It was still full of receipts and cards but... I realised that society is now on the verge of becoming cashless.
So when I ordered some SBL gear I threw in one of these ID wallets without really expecting that I could make the transition. But to my surprise and gratitude, it took me about 15 minutes of sorting through cards (and transferring surplus items to my SBL Big Wallet) to make the change.
One thing - old style Queensland driver's licences do not fit in the ID window. It's no big deal, I put my licence in the cash compartment together with a few Aussie twenties, and I expect that when I eventually have to upgrade to one of the new credit-card style licences that I will move it back to the ID slot. Or maybe not. Everything seems fine now. This is a great wallet and, I suspect, much better for the health of my lower back than my old back pocket bifold.
Best Wallet Ever! (not hyperbole, simply the truth)
by anonymous - verified purchaser | 7/24/2014 9:12 am
I've always been a bi-fold, back-pocket wallet kind of guy. The idea of a front pocket wallet was unthinkable. However, the last couple of bi-fold wallets I'd owned continued to snap credit cards, so I started looking around for higher quality wallets about a year ago... Which is how I stumbled upon Saddleback Leather Company. My first inclination was to go with the medium bi-fold -- I had known no other kind of wallet, so why change? But something about the slim, minimalist approach of the I.D wallet beckoned to me. It appreared small, light, and looked to cut down on the bulk common with any folding wallet, yet sported enough slots and pockets for what I carry. I wrestled for a long time with what to do, but in the end chose to risk getting the I.D. wallet. From the moment I unpackaged it, I knew I'd never want another wallet and after carrying it for over 6 months I know that I'd never use another wallet. It is the best wallet I've ever owned. Seriously. That's not hyperbole -- it's simply the truth.
Now, I'm kind of like a SBL I.D. wallet evangelist -- I'm constantly showing mine to family, friends, coworkers, and sometimes total strangers who ask about my wallet (usually in a check-out line), sharing how I'll never own another wallet. Granted, I was no George Costanza in my bi-fold days; I've always had an affinity for minimalism. But if you're looking to own a well-made, slim-design, functional wallet, this is the best. You will never want to buy another wallet. It is the best money you'll every spend on a wallet -- worth every dime! So if you're in the market for a wallet or know someone who is, this is the one.
Simply the Best

I have been using a front pocket wallet for many years and have tried them from several deferent manufacturers. I just received my wallet from Saddleback Leather Company and it is by far the highest quality and best construction of any I have seen. A great product and simply better than the rest.
First Impressions Count

My wallet just arrived. I have fallen in love with it already. It's exactly how it was described, it smells and feels great. Everything is a bit stiff right now, but I'm sure it will soften with age, and I look forward to using it for the rest of my life.

Just the Smell
by anonymous - verified purchaser | 7/24/2014 9:12 am
I ordered the ID wallet and Ipad case and even before I opened the box I could literally smell the genuine leather...love it! Now back to the ID wallet. It is wonderful from what I can tell at the moment. It is still extremely stiff but will loosen up I am sure. I am having a hard time with my drivers license sliding out but again, I am sure it will stretch. I love this wallet!
Very Practical

Bought 3 in tobacco from Dave's Deals. Love the color. I am a teacher and this came in very useful on a recent field-trip. Fits perfectly in my front pocket. I put a chain through the id loop and wear around my neck with my work id. The other is going to be a stocking stuffer for my son at Christmas.
Perfect! Love it!

Just received this today, and it's in tobacco! Love love love the color! It's a warm mix of honeys and browns, and it's great for use in my new clutch (also received that today)! Money, MRT (train) card, nets card, ID...all organized into this compact little number. It'll fit easily in jeans as well.
Just Believe

I own three Saddleback products, and should have known better than to doubt. I was one of the companies biggest critics on Social Media after it decided to switch to "storied and scarred" leather without relaying a downward price adjustment to its consumers. I liked the idea of providing my own scars and stories, and thought that an already-marked up facade would detract from my enjoyment of the product. Well, last week I washed my wallet, and it came time to find a suitable replacement. With some apprehension, I found myself back on the Saddleback website. I ordered the pocket ID wallet in tobacco, and sent a follow up email requesting "an unscarred piece if possible, and otherwise the most awesome scarring you can find." Well, the wallet arrived after some USPS confusion (to which the Saddleback team reps were, as always, extremely attentive), and...it's beautiful. There's a quarter inch slash across the front, and I surprised myself by how amenable to it I was. It has a story, to be sure, but also adds another, sort of rugged and carefree dimension that is just perfect for a product in Tobacco. I might still hesitate to order a bag or other larger item with the "storied" scarring, but for a wallet I couldn't be happier. As it stands, my bag in Chestnut (which, as I understand it, still uses un-"blemished" leather) gets the job done, and my scarred Tobacco wallet does the same. As to the wallet, itself - the stitching, as usual, is sturdy and even, and the leather smells like...Saddleback. I fit 10 cards into the wallet from the get-go - the money pocket, as mentioned in other reviews, is a little tight, and there is some slight bending to some of the outer cards during this breaking-in period (nothing that looks to be permanent). On the whole - it's exactly what i wanted, and it's sure to last a heck of a lot longer than the wallet I am replacing. I am an absolute Saddleback convert. I look for things to criticize - and to be sure there will always be a few - but this is a company that has earned my trust and I company that I regret questioning. I've been disciplined with my spending, but it's hard to pick up one Saddleback product and not start scouting out the next. I believe, and you should too.
What more could you want?

This is perfect for anyone. I used to carry a large bi-fold with cards, cash, ID's, receipts, business cards, stuff that I didn't know was there and I certainly would never need or use again. I didn't most of that. I needed something that is small, could carry my identification, a debit card, and a little cash. This easily accomplishes this. It is perfect for college. I would easily pay double.
Finally Converted
by anonymous - verified purchaser | 7/24/2014 9:12 am
This is my third SB i.d. wallet in four years. I have been trying to go minimalist for years but couldn't quite manage to convert.
Converting to a front pocket wallet took a accident that fractured my tailbone. Because of the accident I switched from right hip pocket bi-fold carry to left hip pocket and developed sciatica.
I received this as a birthday present from my wife and couldn't be happier.
We live in the digital age of smartphones, tablets, etc. and everything can be stored on those devices.
I got the new tobacco color and it looks fabulous! The leather appears to be a lot thicker around the i.d. window slot. I confirmed this when I compared it to my daughters three year old SB i.d. wallet. My daughter loves her wallet by the way.
The wallet is super stiff especially around the i.d. slot and is difficult to remove my drivers license, but I know it will loosen up in time.
I plan to give a few of these as presents in the near future.
Great if used right.

This wallet is fantastic for right kind of person. For a front pocket wallet person like me, it was a great call.
Like most saddleback products, the leather takes some time to break in. Though this is intiially annoying with the card and especially the money sections of the wallet, break-in makes them easier to use over time.
I find mine excellent for accomodating about 10 or so cards at a time (plus license in the front), and a FEW bills.
Build quality is excellent. A year in and I can tell that this wallet is not going to quit where many previous wallets already had by this point in their lives.
Size is fantastic. You can drop this in your pocket and almost forget it's there alongside your other essentials.
As I noted above, you can only really feasibly keep a few bills in this wallet. The wallet space for bills is tight. Beyond a couple and you may find bills sticking slightly out the top. A few more than that and it's just going to be a mess. If you're someone that carries a lot of bills around this may not be the wallet for you.
I would also note that if you face a credit card's numbers outward in the bottom slot, the wallet will eventually show the numbers grooved in a bit there. I would recommend turning in the bottom outer card so the numbers face inward if this small cosmetic issue bothers you.
When I have need for cash I use Saddleback's Small Bifold instead (a fair bit bigger but still fits in a man's front pocket without much difficulty, holds about the same amount of cards but can much more easily hold cash). However, I try to carry little cash whenever necessary because I enjoy the ID wallet's card-carrying capacity and small size so much.
If you understand and can work with its cash limitations, this wallet's size , build quality, and price point or unbeatable and I would highly recommend it!
Great wallet!

I have been using the ID front pocket wallets for over a year now and love them! I have one in black and one in tobacco color that gets switch back and forth depending on the mood I'm in at the time.
In the I.D. Slot goes my drivers license, LTC and my medical insurance card. On the other side, my credit card and AAA card. In the second slot my two ATM cards. In the cash slot I have have had up to $300 in twenties when going on a trip so I know it fits. Although I don't normally carry that much.
I am going to purchase another one in dark coffee brown to match the back pack that my lovely wife gave me for Christmas last year.
These wallets are awesome! Try one today you won't be disappointed !
Extremely satisfied

Purchased this wallet in tobacco brown about five months ago. Others have pointed out that the cash slot can be difficult, but I personally don't usually carry more than $10-15 in cash, so it was the perfect solution for me. It holds my ID plus five other cards, although much more could fit if needed. The leather has taken on indigo tones from my jeans which I think looks very good. If you keep this wallet in your back pocket and keep a credit card in the front slot, the numbers may begin to press through (not legible, but noticeable). Overall, I am extremely happy with my purchase and have recommended Saddleback to several others who have asked me about it.
Totally worth it

I bought this when is was $45 which was almost half a year ago and still looks amazing. the longer you have it the more rustic it looks. you cant lose.
My Last Wallet

I've had mine for 4 or 5 years now. Perfect front pocket wallet. I find when I have a lot of bills, I have to line them up to get them to fold neatly, but otherwise it's no problem for me. I still admire it and enjoy its craftsmanship and patina.
