What an amazing wallet from a great company! I got this wallet in dark coffee brown and it was everything I wanted and more. Excellent craftsmanship excellent design! I'm a truck driver and sitting on my old tri fold all day was giving me back pain so I decided to treat myself to this wallet and boy what a game changer! Worth every penny! Added bonus my wallet came in an awesome leather pouch thank you Dave and the rest at Saddleback for making high quality products ! I have no doubt this thing will outlast me and my kids will be fighting over it! Get one!!!!!
Just wanted to pop in and say that I've Had this wallet in Dark Coffee Brown for over two years now. I am VERY happy with it and it has been with me every single day since I got it. I currently carry 2-3 cards in each of the back pockets, another 4 behind the ID pocket and usually $15-$40 in cash. The wallet does bulk up quick when carrying cash, so if you carry a lot of ones this might not be the best choice for you. When I first bought it, the wallet was MUCH) cheaper. I could see how the price could deter someone but if you plan to use one wallet for life, I think $70 is a good investment.
Over the past two years it has broken in well and I've received a lot of comments and questions about it. I work with flour which ruins almost EVERYTHING, and this has NO signs of falling apart. Stitching is very much in tact and it has a a lot of character.
tl;dr: Great EDC for past two years, no signs of falling apart. Can't carry a lot of cash in it, but if you like stuff that lasts a long time it's worth the money IMO.
This is a nice wallet. It is not worth anything like $70. There are better quality and better priced options out there, all you gotta do is look a little. Other leather shops did not have the massive price increase SBK did yet the quality is still there.
I just had to write a review and say a big Thank You to this wonderful company! I bought this wallet for my husband and he says it's perfect. It holds everything he needs and he really likes the look and feel of it. I got him the black color. Very good quality!! Also great e-mail notifications from Saddleback, and very funny!
And the cherry on the top of this wonderful item...we received a very nice small black pouch for free!
This wallet is perfect for the minimalist. I have owned mine for about 18 months now. I love it. I carry about 10 cards in it plus my drivers license.
It does have a spot for cash but it is really only good for about 5 or 6 bills. I would not recommend this wallet for someone who likes to use cash on a daily basis. It can be a little difficult getting the bills in and out. I do not use cash often, so this wallet works great for me.
I have the tobacco color. Over time the wallet seems to have taken on a darker tone. You can see these in the photo. I love the darker, aged look. I will buy all my future SBL products in tobacco.
As far as the price goes, yes it might seem expensive compared to the cheap leather wallets you get at the mall but my wallet feels like it will last 10 years, maybe longer. It is extremely well constructed. It is worth the price in my opinion.
Just received my wallet today and it does what it appears to have been designed to do extremely well! I've been putting off buying a new wallet for a long time and so far extremely glad I did until I found this. I only carry I.D's, a few cards, and very little cash on me in my front pocket. It's brand new quality leather so it should be expected to be very stiff, just like a new pair of quality boots, but still accommodates 8 total credit cards/ID's and a few bills while taking up very little room in my pocket. I have very little doubt this will be handed down to my kids, they're arguing over my old worn out one now. If your contemplating on this just understand its intended design, if that fits your needs do not hesitate, it is worth it. I will be a repeat customer.
Functional wallet that is aesthetically displeasing. Every complaint about folded bills not fitting in the money slot are 100% spot on. No reason not to make it deep enough for US bills. The lighter lining looks awful against the chestnut exterior. The edges of the wallet show where each layer of light pigskin and dark leather meet and areas with more layers meet areas with less layers in a disjointed mess. I'll be watching eBay for an older version with darker lining, and will relegate this one to gift cards since I can't return it now.
I've had this wallet for over a year and it truly is a small front pocket id wallet. I would usually carry around 8 cards and a few bills and it would remain slim. The id slot is real good for when anyone ask to see your id. You don't have to pull it out, just show them your id through the plastic free window slot. Great wallet.
I was really hoping I could slim down my wallet because I've been wearing it in my front pocket for ten years anyway, but unfortunately even after finding phone apps that allowed me to get rid of some cards, I'm still not able to comfortably switch to this as a daily carry. I really wish I could, because I love the thing. As a product I'm still going to give it 4 stars. Not 5 stars since I seriously doubt You can carry 12 cards even after you break it in.
Right now, putting 1 card in each slot, one card in the ID window, and two cards behind it (for a total of 5) I am afraid I will damage the cards because they're all rounded. Of course the wallet is new, so I'm keeping old cards in there and try to break it in and we'll see how that goes. Even then, I'll need a couple more slots to carry cards I hope to never have to use (health card + donor card, which you should always carry in the event of an emergency).
The good thing though, that really forced me to think twice about every single card so even though THIS may not be the perfect product, I think I am now light enough to go from my "butterfly" type bi-fold to the medium bi-fold wallet... if I could know for sure it won't damage my cards.
It's a shame I just had a family member visit me from the U.S. and bring this as a gift, because now I'll have to pay for shipping to Canada on my replacement bi-fold.
I'll be honest - I really like this wallet.
I had a little journey getting to this wallet - my original Christopher Ward card wallet went walkabout, so after much searching I purchased an Ikepod slim wallet off Amazon for a similar price to this one. the Ikepod is a very good wallet, with lots of features such as RFID protection, ID window, a little space for coins and a SIM, and the ability to have a limited amount of notes, unfolded. It could also take a lot of cards, but luckily I like going fairly minimal. The two things that made me return it were the quality of leather (decent but not outstanding) and the color. Which was brown. Ish.
As a wallet is something you use everyday, I found Saddleback whilst I was looking and had a bit of trepidation about it. It's pricey for one. And the feature set is very slim.
So I found my one on Dave's Deals, and for the life of me I don't know what the 'flaw' is.
It's tight as everyone mentions, and definitely needs a breaking in period. The leather is thicker than I expected, but is very robust & smells fantastic. Color is a very vintagy tobacco. The leather scuffs and will patina, but that's all part of the character. I carry my work pass, my license, 2 credit cards, one insurance and one discount card, and minimal cash, usually 2 notes. And that's it. It swallows it up no problem. It does become thicker than what I'd ideally like, but I'm also used to a thin leather credit card wallet. The thickness is a great sign that it will last 100 years!
Okay, a few builds. I can understand people not liking the size of the cash pocket. At the moment you have to dbl fold your bills, and even then its prone to having a little bit sticking up. I don't mind it tbh, but others have found it annoying.
The other is value - for the full online price, it's a touch expensive for several pieces of (admittedly good) thick leather with marine grade stitching. Though if you're an optimist it's because it's a handmade wallet with great materials that it's this price. Personally, I think it's fairer at the $30 Dave's Deals price I paid for. For $39, I'd be wanting one or two more features that would really make it value for money, such as RFID protection or similar. As such, I feel that I got a great quality wallet for a fair price.
The Front Pocket ID Wallet from Saddleback Leather is made for the minimalist. I only use it to carry my drivers licence, insurance, debit and 2 credit cards. The middle pocket is great for holding folded cash. I have one in dark coffee brown, and my new favourite, tobacco. I've purchased several for friends and family so I'm not sure if "they'll fight over it when I'm dead!"
Best wallet I've ever owned! I've had this wallet for over a year and the leather and stitching still look great. I'm not one to normally spend more than a few bucks on a wallet (or anything else for that matter), but this was certainly "money well spent".
Just got it.....and am impressed! Holds a fair amount for such a slim profile. Granted, getting the cards in is pretty tight now, but I'm confident it'll stretch a bit as time goes by. I got this because the trifold wallet I've been carrying for years (a pretty nifty, though somewhat rotund, number from Inner Mongolia) has been causing me some back pain because it forces me to sit all wonky. This wallet will fix that problem! Even if I carry it in my back pocket, it's waaaay slimmer than your standard wallet! Yay!!
My 2 year old Saddleback Leather Bi-Fold wallet has been great. My only problem is that my wife is too good of a cook. Hence, my girth has been increasing over time and my overfilled bi-fold wallet is getting harder to slip into my pants pocket. And buying a larger pair of pants is out of the question. So I said to myself, "Self, you have two solutions to this problem. 1) Eat less and slim down. Or 2) Eat the same or more and find a slimmer wallet". Since I plan on keeping my wife for like eternity, I opted for solution #2. Enter Saddleback Leather Solutions. I perused dave's website and discovered the Front Pocket ID Wallet by Saddleback Leather. This wallet is waaaaay cool. It made me take out the 10 or so cards I never use and just keep the ones that I do use. It fits 4-6 cards/license comfortably along with space for enough cash to get you in trouble. And even has a couple of hidden slots! I think this will be my "go to" wallet for quite some time......or until Dave comes up with another cool wallet! Very rugged and sturdy with handsome looks....my wife says. I am not a Saddleback Leather paid representative. Highly recommended but only for those who need a wallet. 5 Stars.
I have been eyeing this for a little over a year. I was trying to deciding the price was worth it or continue with the department store "leather" wallets. It might be priced at 2x-3x those wallets, but craftsmanship is worth more than that. Plus, it's great for minimalists wallet users. I wish I hadn't waited.
... More like Kelsey's Steals. I purchased this wallet on a 25% off Dave's Deals in the color Chestnut. Just received it & the small notepad holder (also bought on a Dave's Deals) and let me tell you.... They are BOTH in impeccable shape. I have inspected these products thoroughly and I still can't find the "flaw"! I bought this as a gift for my husband, he has the bifold wallet and although it is beautiful and holds everything he needs, it is a tad bulky. I purchased the front pocket ID wallet for the times when he will only need his ID and a few cards, a lighter load! After reading several reviews on this product not having the stitching across the openings in the back, to my surprise mine has them! I was just expecting them to not be there based on the other reviews, so it was a pleasant surprise. My only complaint- after putting my ID in the slot in the front, it is VERY very difficult to slide in and out. I am hopeful that this will get easier with time as the wallet is broken in. Other than that, it's beautiful. Pig skin lining throughout and a gorgeous color. Bravo Saddleback!
I received a black ID Wallet this Christmas. It is my first Saddleback item that isn't in Tobacco, Chestnut, or Dark Coffee Brown but it is fitting in nicely with the rest of my Saddleback items. It holds a whole stack of membership cards as well as my Metrocard, which is great because when I'm commuting I prefer not to pull out my whole wallet as much as possible. One thing that would make this ID wallet perfect is if it had RFID protection, especially since it is meant to be used for credit cards. Because this lacks RFID protection, I don't think I'll be using it to carry anything more than membership cards, my Metrocard, and maybe some cash.
Oh, and I don't know if it's because I received an older design, but the card slots of my ID wallet do NOT have the nice stitching across the slots. If only I had made this purchase myself, I probably would have returned it for one with stitching...
I purchased the Carbon Black ID wallet three years back. Since then I've bought several other Saddleback wallets but I always come back to this one. Carbon Black takes a while to age, but once it does, its awesome. One thing I'd like to comment on is the issue some folks have had with holding cash. This actually isn't an issue if some work is done to stretch out the center pocket. Try taking three or four club, casino or old credit cards and stuff them all the way down as far as they can go. Note there is a stitching line about a quarter of an inch from the bottom so it may catch. Get past that line and keep the cards there for at least 3 days. A week is better. After that, you should be able to easily slide 3-5 bills down the center without issue and the money will fit without sticking out at the top. I own an ID wallet in every color and this method has worked on all of them. Give it a shot and your ID wallet will be holding cash (folded only once) without any issue!!
Well made, the more you use it the better it gets! Excellent gift idea, especially that it is Made in the USA!!
mine is broken in now, but no signs of wear. stitching solid. leather solid, without fraying, etc. mine does not have the extra stitching on the credit card pockets - not sure that is necessary.
after stretching with use, holds plenty - 2 IDs and insurance card in ID window. 5 other assorted credit cards / membership cards. plus 3-6 folded bills. room for a few more cards if needed.
would i buy again? absolutely. will i ever have to buy again? i doubt it. if this thing gets damaged enough to need replacement, it will be in my pocket, and i'll be dead anyway.
I am in love with Saddleback's products, they are durable, simple and well designed.
For the most part, this wallet is great, fits7 cards that I normally carry and fits well in my pocket. But here is the problem, it's middle insert(where you put cash) won't fit your standard dollar. It's not a problem if you fold the bills twice, once in the middle then fold it again. But that would make the wallet thicker. If you try to insert the bills without folding it twice, about an inch sticks up from the top. It's totally not a big deal, but for a perfectionist, this is really annoying, I am a bit surprised that this isn't fixed because the solution is so easy, just cut the leather an inch wider/higher.
But because of this extra inch, it annoys me every time I tried to put cash in and when I see cash sticking out...
Hight skill! 80 lvl!
ps: Your wife is hot ;)
Великолепно, что ещё сказать. Просто великолепно.
Много у меня было бумажников всяких, этот на голову выше всех. Взял бы еще Trifold Wallet, но в наличии нужного мне не было. Подожду и куплю )
If you travel minimally, your search is over--this is all you'll ever need and one will last you as long as you're going to last. Unfortunately, it doesn't hold enough junk for most people. Driver's license, ID card, couple of credit cards, health insurance card, warehouse club store card, AAA card, etc., etc. and you've maxed out this little thing.
The trick... well, not so much a trick... is to use both. If you know you're not going to need ALL the junk we have to carry, grab this, stick it in your front pocket, and you're good to go. A trip to the store, going to the gym--this is perfect.
You know you want it! It holds everything I carry, with a little age induced stretching. I've got 4 items from Saddleback and the quality is impressive. I won't but leather from anywhere else if Saddleback makes it. Buy it already!
I ordered two Front ID Wallets on Feb. 2015, about 9 months ago - Chestnut & Dark Coffee Brown. Chestnut has the old pigskin lining, and Dark Coffee Brown has the new pigskin lining. They told me the difference between the two is indistinguishable. After 9 months of use, the new pigskin has a huge effect on the overall quality of the wallet. The "old pigskin" after 9 months of use stayed in its original condition or even better - tough, durable and no deterioration of the quality. The "new pigskin" lining, however, after 9 months of use has changed the shape of the quality. Due to the new soft lining, the part where you place your money looks deteriorated. By that, its shape is not the same. I can prove that with some of the pictures I took. If you keep opening the gap to put your money in it, in the long-run, the shape is going to change and stay open and it'll look different (ugly) and it looks like some cheap wallet that you can purchase down at Macy's for $20. I really want to love this wallet - the design, the leather, and the duration of it. The "new pigskin lining" really ruined everything for me. It made the quality look cheap and 2nd handed. I hope I am not the only one who feels this way.
