I used to buy wallets every couple years. "Designer" wallets that cost more than this and were flimsy and quickly pulled apart. I threw my wallet in the trash after I got this (after taking my credit cards and cash out, of course). This wallet is extremely well built. It's sturdy and it even smells great. My wife even caught a whiff and remarked that it smelled like an old baseball glove, and she's absolutely right. New cars have nothing on new wallets (good ones, anyway). Many new wallets smell like glue and dye. Not this one.
Like any good piece of leather, it needs some time to stretch out. I overloaded it a bit with all the crap from my old wallet and could barely get any cards out. After some much needed purging and a little stretching it has become my new favorite wallet, and probably the last one I'll ever buy.
I HIGHLY recommend this wallet to any guy who needs one. If I had known about Saddleback when I got married I would have given these to my groomsmen. Now I'm waiting on my old bull belt from Saddleback... And I'm sure it won't be my last purchase. Now my wife wants a messenger bag from these guys!
I got this last Christmas and it fully broke in a few months ago. This is the only wallet that I use or will ever use. Every time i take it out at a cash register people ask me about it and I get to brag about my wallet to them. It still smells like new leather and as tough as it was when I first got it. It has enough space for anything you actually need in a wallet. Cash was difficult to get in and out at first but now it slides in easily even with all of the cards that I have in the wallet.
I love this thing. It's well-built, the leather is amazing and ages beautifully, and it's the perfect compromise between storage and volume.
Only one thing that could be improved is that the leather around the ID window, particularly the "open" side you can slide the ID out of, has begun to get pretty loose from sliding cards in and out and catching on things, so my ID occasionally slides out. Still, amazing wallet I'd recommend to anyone!
I have been looking for a quality front pocket wallet for some time. I've had Wallum, EZGO, Slimline and a few others that, while they may have their applications, they are not professional looking. I am a fairly young person in a management position that is dominated mostly by people 15-20 years older than I, so looking professional is a must if I want to be taken seriously. In that regard, pulling out a wallet that looks like it was bought at the local skate shop doesn't really help with my image. That all changed with this wallet.
I have had the wallet for a little over a week and I've already had a number of compliments. It's a truly beautiful product and genuinely looks like it could last 100 years. It looks great, has that amazing leather smell, but most importantly for me, it's functional. I only carry about five cards (driver's licence, two bank cards, credit card and medical info card) and a varying number of bills, and everything has its place.
There are a number of people complaining about how long this wallet takes to break in. "Cards are difficult to get in/out." or "It's impossible to get bills in and out of the middle pocket." I haven't experienced this. Prior to using the wallet I removed the Saddleback business card that comes with it and just bent it back and forth about 30 times making sure that all of the stitches get a bit worked in. After that, I put all of my cards/bills in and it feels like I've had this wallet for years.
At $33 this is a steal. I've paid $60-100 for wallets that don't come close to the quality that this wallet has. If you are looking for a good quality front pocket wallet, this is it. I look forward to this wallet being around for the rest of my life and the definitely won't "fight over it when I'm dead" because this thing is getting buried with me!!
This wallet is perfection! I take it out of my pocket and stare at it every now and then. I've told my friends and family multiple times that I love this wallet. It does come a little tight and it was hard to put my cash in the center pocket. So I crammed about 6 credit cards in there and left them overnight for a couple nights. Now my cash slides in and out fairly easy. I know it should stretch out a bit over time, but I felt like hurrying the process up for the cash pocket. I look forward to buying more Saddleback Leather products!
I currently own many saddle back leather items and I am a huge fan you guys are awesome. I just ordered 2 more id wallets another for me and one for my wife. I recently donated my medium wallet to her and it holds all her stuff but she can never find anything. So I am getting her one of the id wallets to help minimize the problem of finding her drivers license and bank card as needed. I recently saw you have come out with a wonderfully designed a gun pouch I will have to own. Thanks Dave I will be a life time customer
Got my Carbon Black Front Pocket ID Wallet through Dave's Deals, and almost a year later still can't tell what they thought was wrong with it. Will probably buy one at full-price one day just to find out! Anyone worrying they won't be able to fit everything they need in here will be pleasantly surprised, both by how much CAN fit and at the discovery of how little you really need. It's not right for folks who want to carry receipts, pictures, and the like, but if you've put your loyalty/membership/etc cards in your phone and are thinking about lightening your load, this is the wallet. Love how easy it is to show ID, both in the wallet and when I have to take it out. The former almost always elicits something along the lines of "Man, nice wallet, where'd you get it?" So there's always a couple Saddleback cards in there, too. Things this nice shouldn't be a secret.
AND: I took a shot in the dark when I ordered this and asked about an old, discontinued piece. Not only did they throw it in, YET ANOTHER treat showed up along with it. All this for a guy who just bought an inexpensive piece ON DISCOUNT, for cryin' out's sake. Saddleback, your exemplary customer service in support of the beautiful things you put into the world makes putting up with people like the cable company tolerable. THANK YOU.
Pretty long review for a small wallet. But is really is the best. Last wallet I'll ever need.
Had it for 3 years now and it's perfect. 'nuff said.
This is my first saddleback buy, but from what I had seen before I knew it was going to be a quality piece. It is very slim, very durable, and the attention to detail surprised me even with their reputation. The customer service was also amazing. When I placed the order is mistyped the zip code, which they fixed via email within 24 hours. The shipping was very timely and the packaging was great, not that a wallet of this quality needs all protection. I am having a little difficulty placing and remove bills from the center slot, however that is my only issue with this wallet. I love both the color and the smell and can't wait to get more use out of this great wallet.
I purchased this wallet and the Bi-Fold at the same time. I use the Bi-Fold as my primary wallet, if I go walking or fishing, then I use this wallet. It works good but tight, since I don't use it all the time, it hasn't broken in good yet. When I use this wallet, I only bring my ID and Debit card and usually keep a $20 folded up in the middle. This was my 2nd SBL purchase and I couldn't be happier with it.
This wallet is truly a work of pure craftsmanship. I have now had this wallet for over 2 years. The leather has broken all the way in and it really surprised me at how much better looks vs when I first bought the wallet. If you carry cards and a minimal amount of cash this is the wallet for you. Well worth the price.
Over a year and a half ago, I was looking to downsize my wallet and ended up (after a LOT of looking and comparison) buying this one in Chestnut. If you're wanting to simplify your wallet, stop looking around and just get this one. You won't be disappointed.
What it Holds
After all this time, I can confidently say I do not miss carrying around all the other junk that was in my wallet, and I love being able to throw this one in my front pocket without it showing through or looking bulky. Now, I usually carry around $50-100 in cash plus a credit card, my work ID, work keycard, driver's license, Sam's card, and handgun license: basically, the stuff I use a lot/have to have on me. I don't carry around the random customer appreciation cards, receipts, trash (!!!) etc. that I used to.
How it Holds Up
When I first got this, I was a little worried about this stitching. Because it is so exposed, I was sure it would get worn through and bust. After 20 months, though, I haven't had any signs of stitching wear. The leather itself is obviously outstanding and if my office door is closed, there's a good chance I'm pulling my wallet out just to smell it. The wear on the leather at this point mostly shows itself as a shine at the corners of cards.
The leather is now conformed to what I carry. Cards and cash slide in and out with ease at this point (though that was not the case the first few months... give it time). I've heard that if you stuff it full, you'll never be able to slim down because the leather will loosen up too much. I believe that, but haven't had any experience with it myself--I simply minimized as soon as I got it and haven't looked back. The leather does however conform to your credit cards so much that the numbers will actually be imprinted into it if you are consistent with where you put them. I guess this means if you lose your wallet you'll have to call your credit card company... just like any other wallet. If you ever want to get rid of the wallet (why?) and your numbers are imprinted, you'll need to request a new card number.
I have no expectation or desire to ever buy another wallet.
This is an amazing wallet, it holds everything I need and is comfortable to boot. I've used it exclusively for the past four years, and it looks better now then when I first got it.
I bought the chestnut colored wallet and carry it in my front left pocket. I have had this wallet for over two years and love it so much that I bought another one as a backup because I fear losing it someday fishing, etc. I don't fear losing my contents in the wallet, I fear losing the wonderful crafted wallet. My current wallet looks as great as the day I bought it, 2yrs ago. For me, it stores about 6 credit card sized cards, license, and folded in half paper currency of about 10 bills. Just perfect for me. The fat wallet is in the past for me now. Um, maybe I need to buy another back-up wallet in case something happens to my current back-up wallet. Well worth the investment.
I just received my ID Wallet in DCB. It is simply stunning. The stitching is perfect, the leather is beautiful and I love the lighter, softer pig skin lining.
There is obvious quality, whether visually or via touch. Patina is apparent after only 2-3 weeks with much more to come. Break in is finally showing after 2-3 weeks and cards are starting to slide out easier but still struggle with some (although better than new). I was torn between the carbon an tobacco but something about the tobacco says vintage once full patina settles in that I could not resist. Currently it has 2 credit cards, 2 laminated insurance cards, Costco card, thick access card for work, licensee.
I love this stuff best quality ever. I have purcahsed my chritmas wallets for next year for sure.
This is the perfect minimalist wallet. I fit my DL and CHL in the ID slot, my fishing license in the slot behind that, next a few bills in the middle, and in the back 4 cards, 2 in each slot. I had heard a few complaints about credit card numbers becoming imprinted on the forward most slot, so to prevent that from potentially happening I put my credit cards in the back slot, and my flat membership cards in the front slot.
I went from a huge bifold no-name brand to this and I'm happy I did. I keep all the excess papers and junk cards in my old wallet in my truck at all times, and use my Saddleback ID Wallet for things I need every day.
I hope it ages well, because I really like it just like it is. Will try to update after a year if I'm able to.
I love the way the leather feels, the tobacco color is beautiful. Stitching is robust. Shipping was fast and it was packaged nicely.
This is perfection for those in search of the perfect wallet. I love it, it's what I've been looking for. First, it's a typical saddleback product, by that I mean quality and craftsmanship. It has a slot for your drivers license, slots for credit cards, and a place for folded cash. It's fairly flat even when loaded with the aforementioned items, and small enough to fit perfectly in your front pocket. I'm hooked on saddleback products, they just seems to know what works, and works perfectly. If you're looking for something besides the traditional wallet this is precisely it. Perfection, without
Back in 2009 I purchased a Burberry wallet (similar design to the Front Pocket ID Wallet) and the stitching began to come off. I paid $200 for it. I called the place and they told me that the wallet only had a ONE year warranty, and to repair it they were charging me a minimum of $50. That is the last time I purchased a product for its name, and not for its quality. Then my nephew told me about Saddleback Leather and as I looked through the website, looked at the videos and read about the quality of the products I fell in love with everything, then I saw this wallet and decided to order it. I love the feeling of the leather, the look (Chestnut) of the wallet and the smell of "vaqueta" it has letting me know that it is truly top graded leather. I am EXTREMELY happy with my purchase and product...I would NOT buy leather anywhere else besides Saddleback Leather.
This wallet is exactly what I was looking for. I just carry my driver's license. one debit card and a small amount of cash so it's absolutely perfect for me. It could easily accommodate more cards if I needed it to but I like to keep it as slim as possible. It's extremely well made, smells amazing and matches my Saddleback satchel! Thanks Dave!!
I have the black colour which is no longer available - I couldn't decide about the other colours at the time and it seemed like a safe pick. Incredibly durable and well made product. I've had mine for almost two years and it looks fantastic. I think the new "carbon" colour would be my new choice or maybe the coffee brown - both should look great with some regular use and aging.
I bought this from Dave's Deals. So glad I did. I left on a business trip a few days later and I had never been happier. I had my corporate cards, ID, and cash easily accessible.
Funny, TSA was not thrilled with me trying to get my drivers license out of the ID window section. Let it stretch before you try to jam 2 or 3 in there. I held up the line well past anyones patience point, even my own. Side note.....Sadly my iPhone 5 sleeve I was using on my Moto X got lost at the TSA checkpoint. I just got the thing. My heart broke, it worked and looked awesome.
I read a review below that knocks the wallet for the way it holds cash. They're trying to fit JPY in the wallet designed for USD. I don't think I need to explain any more on why that's a fail from the start. It works fine for USD. I've packed single bills and a wad of about 15 singles. If you get an old crinkly single and try to jam it in there it's an interesting process. I was looking for ways to make this fail and I came up short, only if I created a ridiculous situation could I imagine this wallet failing.
After purchasing and thinking it over, I became nervous that the wallet would slip out of my pocket due to its size. Upon receiving it (after an extremely positive experience with customer service and shipping), I realized I needn't worry. Stays in the pocket, extremely versatile and practical due to its size but useful design and has begun to mark up beautifully as the leather comes in contact with everyday life. Also smells great. As my first purchase with SBL, I've realized its far from being my last.
I don't ever write reviews for products but after my experience yesterday I had to. Long story short I thought that I lost my wallet at the gym yesterday. The funny thing is that my first thought was "damn I lost my saddleback!" As I was cancelling the four cards I had in my wallet and dreading the ridiculous wait at the DMV for a new license, I couldn't help but mourn my loss. It had been a part of me for three years.
But lo and behold when I got home from work my tobacco, worn to a beautiful patina, wallet was on my floor in my room. I picked it up and told it I was sorry for losing it and that it would never happen again. This is the best wallet I have ever owned and I am hoping for it to stick with me for the next 100 years.
