I have been using the ID front pocket wallets for over a year now and love them! I have one in black and one in tobacco color that gets switch back and forth depending on the mood I'm in at the time.
In the I.D. Slot goes my drivers license, LTC and my medical insurance card. On the other side, my credit card and AAA card. In the second slot my two ATM cards. In the cash slot I have have had up to $300 in twenties when going on a trip so I know it fits. Although I don't normally carry that much.
I am going to purchase another one in dark coffee brown to match the back pack that my lovely wife gave me for Christmas last year.
These wallets are awesome! Try one today you won't be disappointed !
I have a love/hate relationship with this wallet. I purchased this in dark coffee brown for the regular price of $33 last month(Sept 2013)
-The height needs to be 1 more cm. The height of bills in Japan are a bit more than those in the U.S.(where I'm from). It's annoying that my bills stick out a bit from the middle cash pocket. The product details say "cash sticks up just enough to grab" as if this is a good feature. Well, if I wanted my cash to stick up a bit, I wouldn't insert them so deep into the pocket! If I have U.S. bills, only two or three bills if inserted would be flush. But once you have more than five U.S. bills, they start popping out of the wallet. Annoying indeed.
-Inside the middle cash pocket about 1cm before the bottom, there is thick quality threading that is used to sew the pig skin into the wallet. When I put cash into this slot, the bills usually get caught on this thick threading, especially if my wallet is full and especially if it's one or two bills only. This is annoying because it prevents the bills from sliding into the bottom of the pocket completely. If I have a wad of about five folded bills, they don't get caught.
-One the side with two card slots, there's a design flaw. When I insert my card completely into the top slot and try to take it out, the top edge of the card gets caught on the thick quality threading. This would probably happen on the slot of the other side as well but I don't use this pocket nearly as much. I typically try to take the card out with my one thumb by sliding it up and out but the threading prevents me from doing this. Rather than jab my index finger behind my card and pulling it out between my thumb(with the wallet full, this would be difficult), I have to always be conscious not to fully insert the card. This way, the top of the card lies flush with the wallet and the threading doesn't get in the way and catch anything.
-Awesome leather quality
-Great leather smell
-Small and unnoticeable in your pocket
-Lined with pig skin in some places to last for a very long time
Conclusion: I would only buy this to use as a wallet for gym cards, train passes, etc. It does a lousy job at holding cash. The quality threading does get in the way.
Purchased this wallet in tobacco brown about five months ago. Others have pointed out that the cash slot can be difficult, but I personally don't usually carry more than $10-15 in cash, so it was the perfect solution for me. It holds my ID plus five other cards, although much more could fit if needed. The leather has taken on indigo tones from my jeans which I think looks very good. If you keep this wallet in your back pocket and keep a credit card in the front slot, the numbers may begin to press through (not legible, but noticeable). Overall, I am extremely happy with my purchase and have recommended Saddleback to several others who have asked me about it.
I bought this when is was $45 which was almost half a year ago and still looks amazing. the longer you have it the more rustic it looks. you cant lose.
I like everything about this wallet (price, size, slimness, quality) except for one thing - it's really hard to get your cash in it with a single fold, and double folding makes things a bit thick and hard to work with. It's not that it's not tall enough for the cash, it's that unless you have a huge roll of very crisp bills, they don't have the strength to go all the way down into the cash compartment (you can test this by double folding them, and they go all the way down just fine). Maybe once it's broken it it'll be better? It'd be more of an issue if I use cash more.
Also, other reviews mention the looseness of some of the ID pocket - if you don't keep the wallet very stuffed and keep only one thing in that pocket, that could be an issue. I keep two IDs in that pocket (driver's license and university ID) and it's perfect - I like being able to slide them out with one hand.
This is the best $33 I've spent! I carry six cards and a few bills in this beauty. It's small enough to be completely concealed in dress pants but large enough to hold all I need to carry eventhough it will hold 12 cards easily after it breaks in. I really enjoy the fact that it's unique and made of 100% full grain leather! Gone are the days of me carrying wallets that are made of cheap leather that's lined with fabric that are more expensive than SBL's ID wallet! The best part about it is it will look so much prettier and healthier in a few months while still being tougher than my Seattle Seahawks defense! :).
If you're on the fence about pulling the trigger I say you should stop reading and start buying. Dave and his family have built an incredible business and their customer service is equalled to nobody! My experience has been that leather owners are accepted in a wonderful family! I'll be in San Antonio later this month and it would be awesome to meet Dave. One day maybe. I purchased the new Tobacco color and could not have been happier when it arrived in my mailbox a few days after placing my order with Meridith! She was great at answering all my questions! I now see a large classic briefcase in tobacco in my near future! I hope SBL continues their great quality merchandise and stays true to who they are.......which is PHENOMINAL! Keep doing what your doing!!! I'm a customer for life!
I love the size of this wallet. It's perfect for what I need. Just a few different card slots, a place for case when i happen to have, which isn't often, and an ID window. i really like having an ID window, and this one is great: no plastic to get scratched or dirty, and a great size to the window. And it's Saddleback, so I know it'll last forever.
The best purchase I've made lately. I have lost track of how many $40 front pocket wallets I bought on an annual basis because they wore flat out. I still carry a hip wallet for stuff I don't use that often, but I use this one all the time. My main credit card, my debit card, my drivers license and 8 or 10 business cards is all I carry in it. Exactly what I needed. This puppy will last forever! Love it!
Perfect for use if you don't want to bulk of a full wallet. However, you will not be able to keep a lot of cash in it unless you fold it up small.
This product is amazing! Highly recommend it.
Wonderful wallet! At first I was worried that it wouldn't hold all my cards and cash, but it has stretched out nicely over the last 6 months. As most of you have already heard, the patina and scratches really add to the character of a SBL piece and the Dark Coffee Brown is no exception. My only complaint is that sometimes it can be difficult to get cash in and out if I have too many cards (10+). Other than that, it is a quality wallet that I don't have to worry about falling apart.
What a wonderful wallet! I have had one for about 8 months and it has started to break in nicely. The leather has softened and I can get several more cards into it comfortably. The only problem I have had is that once it has about 10+ cards in it, getting cash in or out can be a hassle. Even so, it still works fine. The ID pocket is perfect for easy, fast access to my student ID that I use several times a day. I am very satisfied with my purchase and would recommend this wallet for anyone who doesn't want the bulk of a bi-fold, but still needs to carry some cash.
Great slim wallet.
This is the best wallet that I have ever owned.
Holds all my cards and cash.
Thanks, Saddleback Leather!
After a year of use, the leather has become so buttery soft. This is the perfect minimalist wallet.
I received this as a gift and love it so far. I haven't had it long enough to comment on the durability, but it does appear to be made incredibly well. Great product at a great price.
Ive been searching for the perfect wallet my entire wallet carrying career and I've finally found it with Saddlebacks id wallet. I hate bulk with a passion and have tried pretty much every "front pocket" wallet known to man. You name it, any brand, any cost....i've used it.
Im a month in now with this tobacco brown wallet and it just gets better and better. The leather is molding beautifully around my cards, and the color is gorgeous. No complaints, its perfect.
I've had a similar style wallet for some time from a different company. Recently it began falling apart and I was happily pointed towards SBL. This wallet is of far superior construction and leather compared to what I had last time - and actually cheaper (paid $50 for last one).
Only initial downside is that the leather is rather stiff and requires some working to get cards to fit well. I've been using for a few weeks since Xmas and it is beginning to loosen up already.
Overall great product, looking to expand my collection with a bag and hopefully, some day, some moccasins if Dave decides to make them!
I don't like a big wallet. I have had ID wallets, money clip wallets, and folding wallets. Nothing has come close to this for initial quality. I was worried it might not hold enough. It's got plenty of room for at least 6 cards, drivers license, and at least 5-7 folded bills. Everything I need and incredibly well constructed. We will see how long it lasts, but I'm sure it won't disappoint.
I had been looking for the perfect thin / slim wallet for years. I had bought several that were okay but they always fell apart and were made of low grade materials and the stitching was bad. After seeing a review online of the Saddleback Leather Wallet and pictures posted by owners after years of use and the wallet actually looked better old then they did new, I knew I had to get one! The quality is amazing! The leather is some of the best I have even seen used in a wallet and the stitching is perfect! After breaking it in over a few weeks you start to forget you even have it in your pocket, it's that comfortable. If you are on the fence about purchasing this wallet go for it you wont be disappointed!
Recived this wallet about a couple of days ago. I have been thinking of getting this wallet and I finally pulled the trigger. So far, there are no regrets, the leather is very tough and seems durable. I like to keep my EDC (every day carry) as minimal and this ID wallet does that while carrying everything I need and eliminating unnecessary bulk. I am very pleased with the workmanship and am excited to see how it ages and develops a nice patina. Great product and I would reccommend this and this company, especially with a 100yr warranty, to my family and friends. I cant stop smelling the leather.
P.S. A tip on making it easier to put/remove cash inside when you first get it, isi to put the cash first(folded in half) before you put in your cards. Also, take your bills and fold it twice and leave it there for a few days.
I have been a loyal customer to Moneyclamp for over 10 years. In that time, I have gone thru 3 wallets. I wrote them asking about a thinner version of their wallet, but something sturdy that will last. I didn't hear from them and stumbled upon Saddleback. I bought this wallet and when I opened the package, it was exactly what I was looking for. Thick enough so it will withstand several years of wear. Not too many slots for credit cards and a plastic less slot for your ID. I'm a SFC In the US Army, and I have to pull my ID several times a day, and it is just what I need; also I only have 2 credit cards. This is a slam dunk if you ask me.
After purchasing the medium bifold wallet and being somewhat disappointed with it. I decided to try the I.D. wallet. It's perfectly comfortable in my front pocket, and fits a good amount of daily carry items - driver's license, car and medical insurance cards, passport card, some cash, and about five or six credit cards. No room for receipts, gift cards with $0.50 left on them, or busniess cards from that guy you met on the train the other day. This wallet disciplines you to carry only the necessities.
I've had this wallet now for a couple of years or so. All I ever want to carry around is my license, a couple insurance & credit cards, & occasionally a few dollar bills. That's all that will fit in this thing. From handling it & taking it in & out of my pocket, the leather has developed a great sheen. Any scuffs now just rub right out, although they do add character to the wallet too. I have great confidence that this wallet will easily outlast me & was a fantastic investment.
I got this wallet for Christmas 2011. It instantly became my every day wallet. I like that it fits in my front pocket.
The center pocket is little hard to get cash out of but that is not always a bad thing.
I looks even better after using it for a year. 99 more to go.
BUY THIS WALLET!!!
33 Bucks for high quality that is warranted long after your dead. NOW THAT IS A BARGAIN!
A Premium ALL LEATHER wallet
ALL LEATHER including Pigskin...oh im sorry, there is the MARINE GRADE STITCHING...this thing smells of testosterone.
Small enough to carry only what you need. Its the digital age, I have a phone that keeps everything, so why do i want anything but cash and cards in my wallet.
BOTTOM LINE , Its just old school quality craftsmanship. No fancy plastic windows (to protect your plastic license) or thin fabric used as dividers (which will eventually rip). ALL LEATHER means just that.
