Hard Briefcase

by

Just received my Hard Briefcase in Tobacco. As a disclosure, I have been a SBL customer for over 5 years now after stumbling upon them while looking for a laptop bag. I own many pieces [classic briefcase (1st major purchase after a test buy with the bifold wallet), suitcases, carry on, beast, waterbag, satchel, small and large notepad, tow belts among several other smaller items. All in Tobacco color].

Besides the timeless look of this item, I purchased this in order to have a sleek item to bring when I travel that complements my hard carry on. I thought about the front pocket thin briefcase but I prefer the look of the wrap-around straps on the classic and now hard briefcase. I find the large classic briefcase is a bit bulky to shove under the seat of a plane. When traveling solo, I try to travel with carry on items only.

My first impression of the hard briefcase was that it was heavier than expected. But this is a quality you become accustomed too with SBL products. I am tall at 6'4" and the briefcase seems to be the perfect size/scale. Will hold any size laptop. Does hold my SBL large notepad as well (adding to the weight). Exterior looks great and matches the appearance of the luggage perfectly. Doing and undoing the three buckles can be a bit time consuming when in a hurry, such as at airport security but the workaround of not doing up the two belts and just tucking the the end works great. Shoulder strap is the same as those on the classic briefcase, water bag and hard carry on and is perfect. The interior is well thought out with two file folder type accordion slots for papers/files/etc. There is a pen pocket and a spot for business cards. The two larger pockets with closure is great for smaller items (phone charger, small book, pens, etc.). Main compartment will hold what you would normally carry in a briefcase.

In summary, great design and execution that customers of SBL have come to expect. I don't care about the price as much as I am willing to pay more for quality and customer service. If SBL keeps making quality items, I will continue being a customer.

SBL Hard Briefcase = Endorphin Overload.

by

I received my walnut hard briefcase today. These are my first impressions.

Pros: The limited ed. walnut color is chocolate milkshake creamy. The fit and finish is exceptional. Every rivet, corner, strap, bend, stitch and buckle is perfectly placed. They should make a cologne that smells like the leather. Between my wife and I, we've owned over a dozen SBL products. This is the best item by far out of the box.

Cons: It is hefty empty, so when you fill it up, expect it to be a load. I'm 6'4", 230 lbs, an Eagle Scout, and a man, so I don't mind the density. I get my vitamins from what's found in a steak.

The top does not stay open without some items located in the sleeves to keep it such. That will change, I imagine, with use as the leather breaks in. Keep in mind the 3 buckles to open and close this beauty. It's not made for quick and easy access; just something to consider in case you're an impatient person.

Conclusion: Yes, you deserve it. I did, and it makes me happy.

King of All Briefcases

This briefcase is not only the most beautiful briefcase on the market it's also the most functional.

Folding both the side stripes in one themselves makes it much easier and faster to get in and out of.

While it is a little on the heavy side, I have found it perfectly manageable even stuffed to the gills.

The most important thing to remember is that because it is hard sided, there is no "stretching" or "making it fit."

My favorite EDC.

"Wow. You've got a real briefcase." - Said everyone who sees it for the first time.

This is the briefcase I had always wanted from SBL. This is the briefcase I really wanted when I bought a large thin in original tobacco back in 2012. Thankfully Dave delivered.

There is no give to this briefcase. So if you're used to the soft sided models, get ready for a change. Its like that change from cub to boy scout, or from bootcamp to real world. Its that good change you keep wanting to make.

After some time, the time will stay open more easily... although different items in the top portion are a factor. Im sure over the years it'll break in beautifully.

Overall this briefcase turns heads, prompts conversations, and carries everything you NEED. The best thing is the way the layout forces you to consider what you should include. No more overstuffed diaper-bag-looking brief case. Sure it weighs something, but if thats your complaint than do some pushups :)

I echo the sentiments above. Yes, you DO deserve it. Go ahead. You won't regret it.

Strange brand placement

by

This is a great case, but I cannot fathom the reason behind why the brand name is placed in a spot that gets covered by the closure belt.

Best briefcase in history of universe

Buy this briefcase in tobacco and let it get scuffed up a bit. Then watch what happens: women swoon; your worst enemies fall to their knees, begging for mercy; small children everywhere long to be you.

Most Impressive Hardside Leather Briefcase

by

Just received my new Chestnut Hardside Briefcase yesterday. I am very impressed with the superior craftsmanship construction & unique style of this top SaddleBack Leather product, possibly my best choice yet. I was very happy to chose this Chestnut color thanks to Dave's great deal. This Briefcase could easily double as a Carryon item for small casual clothing items (maybe shoes too if needed) for one day if your suitcase was missing on a flight. I was able to fit my large Apple 17 inch Mac Pro laptop in the folder area(tight), or I could easily have fit in the wider area if I had to. As to the weight, I did not (yet) get a feel for the weight full, but would most likely use the enclosed carry strap if I had my heavy laptop inside as that would be wise I suppose, but it did not feel heavy at all to me when I held it empty, as some may have said it was. Thanks for the great deal.

Story

I’ve been trying to get a hardsided briefcase right for about 15 years now. I’ve lost track of how many prototypes and design tweaks this thing has been through. There were prototypes that were too wide, or too heavy, or the organizer panel wasn’t quite right. This one was real tough to crack. But I finally feel like it’s ready.
