A Leather iPad case - Because the iPad 4, iPad 3 and the iPad 2 are so similar in size, this leather iPad case works great for all of them.
100 Year Warranty - If your iPad case goes before you do, we'll fix it or replace it for free. Heck, have your great-grandchildren talk to my great-grandchildren and we'll take care of them too. If Apple keeps it the same dimensions, this iPad case will work just as well for your great-grandson’s iPad 47. Imagine how great the case will look by then.
Full Grain Leather - Only thick Full grain leather; not weaker Top grain, Genuine or Bonded. The top layer has the toughest and tightest fibers of the leather (grain) and the pores that take in your oils when touched. That's why my full grain iPad case (for the iPad 4, iPad 3 and iPad 2) ages so nicely.
No Breakable Parts - No zippers, buttons or any other breakable parts. How much is a billion dollar submarine worth with a cardboard hatch?
Industrial Thread - Stout industrial marine-grade Polyester UV resistant thread. It's used for airbags, sails, work boots and other heavy-duty applications. There's none better that I know of. I ought to keep an extra spool in my truck for towing.
Fully Tanned Leather - Good tanneries remove all natural oils and preservatives from the hide and then soak and tumble it for up to twenty hours until the new liquids reach the middle. Cheap tanneries only tumble them long enough to color the surface and leave the middle to dry up and crack.
Lining - Lined with pigskin, which has the second toughest tensile strength rating of leathers. Kangaroo is the toughest. Suede is an option.
Leather - 100% hypoallergenic 4 to 5 oz (2.0mm to 2.2mm) thick, full-grain, chrome-tanned leather. Usually, cowboy and work boots are made with 1.8mm - 2.0mm thickness. And, our leather isn't "buttery soft" (fibers separated and broken down by hours of tumbling and stretching at the tannery). It's your job to tenderize it with use.
Thread - The double-zero, continuous-filament, polyester thread we use is a little thicker than what is used on most boots. It's impressive and expensive. Common thread is made of short, little fibers wound together into one long thread. This thread is made of long, continuous fibers that won't fall apart in a strong wind. Polyester thread is the only thread I know of that doesn't deteriorate with exposure to sun.
How can I convince my honey that I need this?
So you want it. Now comes the hard part; to convince your honey. Throw some of these phrases out and see what happens.
Her to Him
I feel frisky every time I even think about this case.
I would just feel so sexy with this case.
I don't think I'd ever want to go shopping for another thing all year after holding something like this.
Him to Her
Just looking at this case makes me want to just HOLD you.
I don't know why, but just the thought of this case makes me want to TALK with you for hours on end.
Think of all of the extra TIME we'd spend TOGETHER on our long walks holding hands and showing off the case.
Maybe owning my dream case would help me OPEN UP to you and SHARE how I'm feeling and the hopes and dreams I have for us.
Me to Both of You
You'll be more popular. You'll have more friends. What's wrong, you chicken? I might invite you to my birthday party. If you don't buy this case, then next year, when you're scouring the internet again looking for your next garage sale iPad case, your mind will drift back to my words. You'll slowly shake your head and say, "Man, was that guy right or what". And then you'll slightly squint, press your lips together and give a few small nods. I tell you what, buy it now or kick yourself later.
I've made this iPad case for you to break in. It'll take a few months until it really starts to look cool, and you'll have to use it a lot. In fact, the more you use it, the better it looks (and it already looks great). It'll eventually form to the places on your body it touches regularly. The edges will soften and round some to become even more chic and classic looking than it already does.
Where can I see one of these cases in person?
I don't have any of the items in stores and we're not big fans of folks coming to our home because of the weirdo factor. My sister, Patricia and her husband (my Chess and Scrabble nemesis) send out the leather from their place near Ft. Worth, Texas. But again, because of the weirdo factor, they don't want you dropping by there either. If it helps, everyone tells me that they look better in person.
Which color should I get?
Pick the one that fits who you are. I've observed what the bag owners tend to be like based on the color they have chosen over the years. The category below that fits you best is probably the color you'll enjoy most. Remember, your first inclination is usually the correct one.

Are the animals tortured before they are slaughtered?
Absolutely not ! With some pigs we do use waterboarding and sensory deprivation techniques previous to slaughtering them, but the cows do not require any special handling.
How much do these leather things cost you, Dave?
Well, I lived for three years in a $100 a month apartment in Mexico with no hot water, because of these bags. My dog, Blue, and I drove for thousands of hours all over the North American continent because of these bags. I had a crooked Federale sent to kill me because of these bags (I convinced him that Señor Alarcon would never pay him) and we became friends). I've shed gallons of blood and tears and sweat and at least a quart of other people's, because of these bags. I've slept in my car or on the rack of my old Land Cruiser at least 150 times because of these bags. I've lost weeks of sleep and have gone hungry for days because of these bags. I was broke for years and even had to trade two of Blue's little puppies for a month's worth of tacos in order to eat because of these bags. I've been detained by who knows how many Mexican police because of these bags. I've thrown away thousands of dollars and made hundreds of mistakes because of these bags. I've been stolen from, taken advantage of and robbed because of these bags (they even stole Blue once, but I got him back). All of these things and more have happened to me because of these bags. They cost me a lot.
All I know is this, my husband became more handsome, taller, more persuasive and much more proficient in all things dealing with "Eros" once he received his Saddleback iPad cover.
iPad Case
The quality is unbelievable and I am certain that this case will still be around long after me and my iPad are gone. I love his products.
Great Lookinf Short on Function
This is a great looking case and very durable. It's a great look for the boardroom. I have had mine for over a year. It does have some shortcomings though.
The tablet tends to slide down in the case during use. Controls become inaccessible. This gets worse over time as the leather pocket stretches from use. Flipping the device so that the opening is up helps when holding the tablet, but is still a problem when placed on a flat surface or lap. Velcro worked for a while.
Over time the straps become more flexible and don't work to place the tablet at an angle. You need to have something (I carry a small notebook) to wedge behind the screen to create an angle for viewing.
A magnet in the cover would be useful to turn the tablet off when closed (I made a simple retrofit for mine).
Too many work arounds to make it functional.
Just buy one
I have been looking for a nice ipad cover for some time. I travel a lot and need something that protects it and is not so big it hogs an already crowded briefcase. I found the website and spent more time then I should have going through it. Learned a lot. Thought that these may be people that made what I wanted. Even ordered a 25% deal in the color I waanted. Got it in 3 days and it is all that the site says it is and more. Fits great, looks even better. Truly a quality product.
I must say however that I am a little upset with the thing. Now I have to have the briefcase. Thanks Dave.
Only case worth buying!
I bought two of these cases roughly six months ago. One for my daughters iPad 4 and one for mine. I got her the tobacco brown and ordered the dark coffee brown for myself. Her case was/is a lot different than mine in that hers was immediately soft and relatively loose but not in a bad way. Mine after six months is still very hard to get the iPad in and out of but has finally softened a little. Regardless, I love this case. It looks beautiful, feels incredible, and is very functional. I only have two complaints and they are relatively small. First, the two straps get loose very quickly. I wish they were firmer or had some stiff material inside of them to keep my typing angle from getting lower and lower due to the increased use and weight of the iPad. Second, the hoops that the straps slide into don't want to stay up! It's a pain to slide the straps in without them wanting to catch on the hoops. This issue was resolved with the new iPad mini case, however. I will be ordering an iPad mini as soon as they release a retina version and I will definitely return to Saddleback to meet my future casing needs!
iPad 2: Very protective!
I bought this case because I love leather products! It reminds me of the leather on my grandpa's horses' saddles...and therefore of my grandpa. However, this case has more than paid for itself, simply by helping me avoid costly damage. I have absolutely zero fear of dropping my iPad/handing it to my 3 kids (under 8 years of age) and letting them go, etc. I've dropped it more than I can count, and never has it impacted the iPad within it. Extremely sturdy...and it still smells good after 6 months! The random scratches (and some not-so-random child productions) just add to the character.
iPad 3 Great Fit
I had a nice keyboard case for the New iPad, or iPad 3. The only problem, you could only use it in landscape mode. I bought a classic briefcase medium in chestnut. That plastic iPad case just did not look right in the back outside pocket. I got the Saddleback leather iPad case in chestnut. It looks great, and is a great product. I have a "flex" bluetooth keyboard that works great with the iPad. It is nice I can put the iPad in portrait, or landscape mode to type, or just use it without the keyboard. Too bad they do not make a leather case for the keyboard, but I bet one of the leather sleeves would work great. By the way, I meant to put five stars for the briefcase, but hit four by mistake. Thank you Saddleback for another great product. I would highly recommend this, or any of their products.
Don't Read This! Just Go Buy One Already
I tend to wait a few weeks before I feel confident in a product enough to review it.... But I'm reviewing my new iPad case after having it for 4 hours. If you are looking for a bulletproof iPad case, look no further. I got a Dave's Deal Chestnut case and truly could not be more pleased. The only defect I can find is a little wrinkle at the top of the case just beside the front facing camera. I honestly wish it would have been more "defective".
I should also mention how much I love the colour. I didn't have much choice, it was the only one left in Dave's Deals when I placed the order for my large backpack. I don't think the pictures do the colour justice! It's dark like cherry wood. I would have ordered my wallet in Chestnut if I'd know how nice it looks in person.
Thanks to everyone at Saddleback for providing top notch products and world class service. If I were in prison together... I'd protect you.
I LOVE it!
I adore this! It is wonderful! I had 3 other iPad cases in 6 months before this one...spend roughly 1/2-2-3 of the price of this one on each and i got rid of them... I love love love this one.
Heaven!! I'm in heaven!!
Seriously, this thing is THE BOMB!! I ordered the large thin briefcase in tobacco brown and matching iPad 4 case. My house smells like a dream and the items are more than I expected AND the briefcase was at a 15% discount. Really?!?!? I don't see a mark on it! You guys rock big time. I am getting ready to order several other items. I am very pleased and thankful for the discount, although I don't know why it was discounted. I am a life customer for sure! I sent back a Kenneth Cole briefcase that came yesterday. OMG, the hardware alone was so inferior compared to SBL. No comparison on the leather either. Thanks guys! AND thank you, Tessa! You are my friend... :)
Broken Record
I hate to sound like a broken record but my new Chestnut case is everything everyone else has said. It gives a ridiculous amount of protection to my iPad. This case is also such that I will not be able to update my iPad. After all, Apple is set to change the form factor once again which would make my new case worthless. This is not bad as the iPad 4 is a great version to be stuck with. The chestnut case is gorgeous.
I was expecting the pigskin to be of a suede finish (like Hush Puppies) but it isn't, it is smooth. If you are looking for a svelte case, move along. This case is like kevlar. It is maximum protection. I was curious how well the iPad would fit into the case since there is no flap to prevent the iPad from slipping out. No need to worry. The iPad cannot slip out. Once in, it is darned near impossible to get it out.
My wife asked me just how many cases was I going to buy for my iPad. I told her this is my last one. There are many options for covering the iPad but there is simply not a better case out there for protecting your iPad.
Perfect iPad case
I am an iPad geek. I started with the iPad 1 and found a workable case after trying several. Then my iPad 1 needed to an update, so I grabbed the iPad 4. I needed a new case, and couldn't find one I liked. I decided to give the Saddleback iPad case a try, because I love my other Saddleback items so much.
This is the ideal iPad case. I don't know why I am surprised. It's Saddleback! It protects the iPad well. My new iPad 4 survived a drop from chest-height without any issue. It secures the iPad without any incling that it could fall out of the case. There is no infringing on the camera by the case, and all buttons, plugs, light sensors and microphones are easily accessible. The closure stays closed and can work as a stand for both typing and for video watching. Moreover, the you can slide your hand in the back of the case and it will stay on your hand without having to grip the corner. (I'm having difficulty explaining this feature, but what I do is bend the cover back and thread the straps through the closures so that the screen is visible. Then I take one of the straps out of the closure, and slide my hand diagonally between the two faces of the leather. This allows me to 'mount' the iPad on my hand for comfortable use.)
I've gone through a series of iPad 1 cases and hated the thought of trying to find a good case for my iPad 4. Thankfully, Saddleback was my first and only iPad case for my new tech. The only thing I wonder is what I will do with the awesome leather when it outlasts my iPad...
You gotta be kidding me!
LOVE IT, tons of comments on it does not do it justice, it has saved me many times when I have dropped the thing, A little sad it will FAR outlast the technology inside it, thus rendering my 100 year warranty useless :-)
Perfect...except
Soft where it should be, and hard where is should be. I do not think a better design exists for the iPad. Props up nicely when I'm laying in bed, and folds back to make reading sitting up comfortable as well.
The leather is oozing with quality and excellence. The straps are thick, the color is even, and my God the smell...
Now for the except. My iPad 4 toggle switch does not line up perfectly with the cut-out. So I have to be deliberate with my fingernai to toggle it. Not too big of a deal, since I don't often silence my iPad, or need to lock the orientation.
If I ever have a future generation of the iPad, no doubt I buy another Saddleback case.
Shatterproof!
I may not travel as much as some reveiwers, but I can honestly say this product has prevented me from destroying my iPad. I have dropped it on wood, concrete and tile... its is perfectly fine. Worth every penny!
Dark Coffee Brown iPad Case
This is my third and last leather case for my iPad. Great leather with no synthetic filler or short cuts in materials. I use my iPad daily for news, reading, shopping, and work. Much heavier than past covers I have bought, but fully covers the iPad which is secure in the sleeve. If you want a light case this is probably not the case for you. I was afraid I wouldn't like the closure straps, but they hold the case securely closed and act as a stand when needed when the cover is turned back. For my use this is turning out to be perfect. My husband is getting tired of me telling him how much I like this case. The color is a perfect deep brown.
Tobacco Brown
I bought this about a year ago. Fantastic case! Much sturdier than anything else I have seen. Really takes the abuse from me, my wife, and daughter when traveling. I condition it when I think about it - it get's better with age - nice patina.
Thanks Dave!
Chestnut for the New I-Pad
I ordered this to surprise my wife, I got her an I-Pad for Christmas and bought a $30 black cover. She loved the I-Pad, but said "The cover is Black, I am a girl". I decided to order her this, she absolutely LOVES it. The quality is Top Notch and we both love the Chestnut Color.
I will be ordering more goods, probably the Briefcase next along with a few belts.
1 year down, 99 to go
I received my iPad 2 case from Saddleback more than a year ago now, in glorious dark coffee brown. It's quite simply, the best case I could have hoped for, and well worth the premium.
The case is frequently admired by friends, colleagues and complete strangers. Aesthetics aside, my iPad 2 has now survived numerous knocks and drops without issue. In the same period of time, two colleagues (with other cases) have shattered the screens of their iPads.
Thanks Saddleback.
Very good!
I have just received the case and indeed it needs some breaking in but it looks absolutely fabulous and of very good quality. The fit is very snug for an iPad 4th generation. It does add some bulk but that is the price to pay for quality leather and nukeproof design.
It took about 1 week to arrive in France and passed through customs without issues and without having to pay extra taxes.
For those wanting some more info about the color: I hesitated between DCB and Chestnut and went with Chestnut as it was the first in stock. I worried a bit that it would be too red but it's not. It's a very classy, warm dark brown leather. I'm very pleased with the color.
All in all I'm very pleased with my purchase and I would recommend this case to a friend.
Thanks.
Nice case, takes some breaking in.
Beautiful leather and stitching, a bit stiff when you first get it, but it breaks in nicely.
The only bummer is the (lack of) magnetic cover. Every other case I've seen has this, even the cheapie ones. I'm pretty sure they're using magnetic shielding on the back of the magnet ;)
Form it's a 5, function a 3.5.
What a great case!
Since moving my iPad into its new leather address, my piece of 21st century technology has now acquired a more tactile, friendly, and overall, a whole new personality!
The only negative thing that I noticed on opening the iPad case was that the bottom of the top cover was cut slightly shorter than the top so that it doesn't line up with the base. The more I look at it, the more it's starting to irritate me. I think this would not have happened if I had the opportunity to compare more than one case side by side, say in a store where I can see and compare and decide what I am willing to live with. But when purchasing over the Internet, it's always a gamble. On the whole though, it is a great product and I would highly recommend it!
11 out of 10
With out doubt the one thing I get asked about when travelling more than ever before is this ipad 2cover its simply the best there is.
It takes all the knocks with ease and just gets better and better with age at first I was protective of it but now! well itâs like a well worn leather jacket that I never want to take off.
If you think its going to be good then your going to be half right because in my humble opinion it will be twice as good as you hope it will be.
Yes you have to pay a little for importing it but its worth every penny and it knocks any thing you can find in the uk for a six.
I am eager to get the ipad mini case and cant wait for it to get here.
Thank you to all the folk who make these products your amazing.
Wonderul Product!
My husband and I just received our leather Saddleback I Pad case today. Everything we read about it is true . The workmanship is exceptional and we were really pleased on how quickly it shipped out . We love it !!
Thank you Dave :)
Lori and Steve
It's Fu'n awesome!!!
I got it 6 months ago. I have no complaints. It takes a serious amount of abuse. If you want something you can toss around, then this is the case for you. It is the bee's knees!!!
Great Looking Protection
I bought this case because I'm a true road warrior, logging well over 100,000 air miles every year. A lot of the iPad cases I've seen in my travels don't look like they would hold up or provide the protection I need. I've received a number of compliments on this case, and like all Saddleback products, it just keeps looking better as it gains character. It's also the coolest looking iPad case in the room, no matter where I go. If you want real protection from the hazards of real world travel, get one of these.
iPad 4 Compatible!
I purchased my Saddleback iPad Case in 2010 for my iPad 2. I've loved it ever since. Recently, I purchased a new iPad w/ Retina Display (or iPad 4). Case still fits like a charm! I'd be very reluctant to get an iPad in any other size as I love the case so much. Excellent stuff.
Quite useful
This case fit the iPad III just as advertised. The leather straps close up very securely. You don't ever miss the edge magnets. Old school closures have been around a long time because they work! Although I have never chucked my Saddleback protected iPad across the room, as Dave does in his video, I am quite sure it will survive if accidentally dropped.
Amazing iPad Case
This case is just what I needed for my iPad. I had a thick case before that didn't stand up to a short drop, but this case is rugged and certainly will stand up to use. The color and the leather smell is great. Now I just need to get one for my wife.
