Indiana Leather Satchel

So, I got the satchel to fill the void between backpack and wallet. I was amazed how much I can fit. Sunglasses in case, Eyeglasses in case, Pipe and to tobacco pouch, cell phones, Journal and iPad. Also my wallet in places where pickpockets frequent. I have carried this in Naples, Rome, Zurich, Casablanca and Marrakech. Even in Morocco it gets comments and they have a long history as producers of leather. I am now a convert to the "Man-bag". Another amazing piece of kit from Saddleback.

Indiana Satchel in DCB

I have had this satchel just a couple days now but I am already wondering how I ever made it by without! The size is perfect for carrying around all my stuff for day to day living without being too cumbersome. Carrying my wallet, keys, cell phone, sunglasses, reading glasses and still room to spare. The Dark Coffee colour is fantastic and I am looking forward to the patina that will develop. The build quality, as expected from Saddleback, is stellar! Thanks so much for another awesome bag!

Great add on

I travel every week for work. Usually carry my tank. If I need a bit of extra space I use this. Fits my iPad, book, chargers and a few extras. And I can throw it under the seat to have an excuse to put my tank in the overhead for a bit of extra feet room. Travel hack.

The Indiana Leather Satchel

The Indiana does not disappoint. My husband was resistant to carrying a Man-Bag before he got the Indiana Satchell. Now, he cannot be separated from it! It is the perfect size for his iPad, book, sunglasses, phone, extra layer of clothes and wallet! Highly recommend to anyone afraid of the Man-Bag.

A leather satchel is a bag made of leather, typically with a single strap that goes over the shoulder, used for carrying books or other items.

Design

This full grain leather satchel (a.k.a. Man bag) is over-engineered with no breakable parts like zippers, snaps, buttons, etc., and is reinforced with polyester straps and rivets at all stress points. It’s built with just two main pieces of leather, so there are fewer seams, and we sew at only five stitches per inch, so there’s more leather between the needle holes and fewer holes to start a tear.

What is a Leather Satchel?

A traditional leather satchel is a type of bag, traditionally made of leather, with a single strap that goes over the shoulder. It was often used as a school bag or for carrying books.

Origin of Leather Satchels

The word “satchel” comes from the Old French sachel, which itself comes from the Latin saccellus or saccullus, meaning money bag, or even deeper, saccus, meaning “bag” or “sack”. The word was first used in English in the 14th century.

A full grain leather satchel from Saddleback Leather Co. will last you for at least 100 years.

From Carrying Books to your Collection of Electronic Gadgets

The leather satchel has been around for many centuries, and its origins can be traced back to medieval Europe. It was initially designed as a functional bag for carrying books and other items, and it wasn’t until later that it became a stylish accessory. In the old days, a schoolboy always carried his books in a leather satchel. And in the summer, he might even hold a frog or two in it.

Today, the leather satchel is still a popular choice for those who want a stylish and practical bag. It is perfect for carrying everyday items and accessories and for use as a travel or work bag.

Is it a satchel or a man bag?

The term “man bag” is relatively new and is sometimes used interchangeably with the satchel. So, whether you call it a satchel or a man bag, this bag is still a popular choice for men.

How Big Is This Satchel?

The Saddleback Leather Indiana Satchel is our smaller satchel. It is 10" x 11" x 3" and weight is just 2 lbs. This is the perfect one for you if you want a smaller one. We also have larger satchels; take a look around at our others if that is what you are looking for.

Materials

If you know Saddleback Leather Co, then you know the quality of material and craftsmanship that goes into our designs. But, if you are new, let me tell you how we can create leather satchels with a 100 year warranty.

Full Grain Leather to Make a Satchel-

Our cow leather is the super-strong full-grain leather (like boot leather, but thicker). Not Top Grain or Genuine, but Full Grain. Low-quality, low-life companies shave off the grain, which is the tough and resistant top part of the hide, to get rid of those eww icky scars, so they don’t have to cut around them and throw the leather away.

That is how they can use almost every bit of that hide. To make our leather satchels, we throw a lot of leather away because we refuse to shave the grain off. It’s like they’re shaving the shingles off of your roof. There ought to be a law.

The Lining of our Leather Satchel-

The pigskin lining is stronger than the cow leather, and that’s why we use it instead of some pretty shiny nylon fabric with a neat world map on it. These are more features that represent the love that we put into our bags.

Thread, Abnormally Strong to Keep The Leather Satchel Held Together-

The thread is abnormally strong. It’s actually a marine-grade UV-resistant polyester thread that they use to sew things that people’s lives could count on—parachutes, sails, etc. So if your life ever depends on this leather satchel staying together, you’ll live to tell that story.

Hardware in the Leather Satchel-

Our own custom hardware is the amazing 316 Stainless Steel (please please google it). It’s the metal of choice when your life depends on it.

The functionality of the Leather Satchel Hardware

The d-rings are great for strapping on tripods, light jackets, or some wet river shoes. I chose a buckle closure to be able to overstuff (with a hole at the very tip of the strap, just in case. Or you can put it at the tip of the leather satchel to secure an umbrella under the flap but over the main compartment.

Satchels are a Classic Accessory

Satchels are a classic accessory. They’re so classic that they’ve been around for centuries. They’re also timeless and can be carried or worn in any season or setting.

A Saddleback Satchel Will Last a Lifetime

Full Grain Leather is a tough, durable material lasting at least ten decades. Not only can it withstand the elements and keep your belongings safe, but it also looks good even after years of use.

There’s a reason why our leather satchels are so popular—they’re built to last! The sturdy design is designed to hold up under heavy use, so you won’t have to worry about them falling apart on you as soon as you start using them. So when you invest in a leather satchel from us, you know it will last at least 100 years!

Our Satchels Look Great With Everything for any Occasion.

It’s easy to see why a leather satchel would look great with lots of different outfits:

  • Leather satchels go well with a suit. You can wear it over the shoulder or carry it by the handle.

  • Our satchels also look great with jeans and t-shirts. Our color options work well with light or dark denim, so you can easily find an outfit that matches your satchel.

  • If you’re wearing a blazer, leather satchels are an attractive option for carrying your essentials while keeping things stylishly professional!

Get One For Yourself. You Will Enjoy It For The Rest Of Your Life

  • It’s stylish. Leather satchels have a timeless style that makes them an excellent accessory for any occasion, whether you’re running errands on the weekend or attending a formal event. You can use them to carry many different items, from clothes and toiletries to food and electronics.

  • It’s durable. Leather is exceptionally durable, so your leather satchel will last you for decades if cared for properly.

  • It’s versatile. If you’ve ever needed a bag that can fit everything from your tablet to your Bible and everything in between, then this is the bag for you! Even with this smaller satchel, it holds so much and is versatile enough to look great while doing it! (if you need a more oversized satchel, we have those too)

Don’t shop for Top Deals on Satchels. Shop for Top Quality Satchels.

Now that you know how to pick the best leather satchel, it’s time to start shopping! There are plenty of options on the market, but not all are created equal. Sure, you can get a piece of junk satchel at the store or some random overseas website that you somehow navigate to after you search around. But stop and think about it. That site probably doesn’t mention anything about the material we discussed. Some cheap handbag will give you nothing but stories of that time you went cheap to try to save a few dollars.

When looking for a new bag, keep an eye out for top-quality materials like full grain leather and 316 stainless steel hardware.

It would help if you also looked for a bag that’s comfortable to wear since you’ll be carrying it around with you everywhere you go. And finally, make sure to find a bag that fits your personal style—after all, you’ll be the one carrying it around!

When you invest in a high-quality leather satchel from Saddleback Leather Co., you’re getting a bag that’s built to last. We only use the absolute best materials available, so you can be confident that your new satchel will stand up to years of use.

Plus, our bags are backed by a 100-year warranty, so you can rest assured knowing that your purchase is protected.

The Terrorist Bedtime Story Continued from the Slim Briefcase page

It was a dark place. Everyone was nervous, even Omar's brother, Ali. As we slowly wandered the streets of this remote African village, our captain would disappear now and then into a small thatched roof hut or stop to talk quietly with one of the elders of the village. We just tried to be as friendly as usual and waved and smiled to everybody. Smiles broke out most everytime we smiled big or said something in Swahili. If I said I was just uncomfortable, that would be like trying on my jeans from high school and saying that they were a tad tight. We needed to get out of there, and so that's what we did.

Later that night, back at Mike's Camp, Omar, the Islamic prophet and angel, and I talked for about 5 hours until after midnight about God, nature and the moon and about how a person can have strong supernatural peace and inexpressible joy and a deep love in their life that is beyond understanding, even during storms. I knew that if Omar were to ever start that close friendship with God, there would be a huge shake up in that region because everyone knows and respects, and listens to him.

I finally said goodnight and went to our thatched roof hut to go to bed and found Suzette praying. We talked for a bit, and then I fell asleep. She didn't. After about 45 minutes, Suzette shook me hard awake and said, "We need to pray RIGHT NOW!!! There was thick blackness in the room like we had never experienced. No light whatsoever. We could no longer even see our hands in front of our faces or the stars through the entire wall of big glassless windows. There was a heavy evil presence all around us.

We prayed and rebuked the spirits as best as we knew how. I mean, we threw it all out there. "You leave now! You have no rights! Get away from us! In Jesus name I throw, cast, kick, punch, order you out of here!" I mean, we left no Christian phrase unused. And since we could text from there, but didn't have internet, we sent texts to family and friends to pray for our protection. And after about 2 hours the darkness lifted and we could see the stars through the big huge window holes again. And that wonderful peace returned.

I know this sounds like crazy talk to some, but I'm just telling you what happened. Surely there could be an explanation for all of the blackness, even though it was dry season and there was not a cloud in the sky, and the stars shone brightly. But there was a heaviness in our spirits and we sensed an unmistakable strong evil. Now I'm not a highly emotional sensationalist, but I witnessed what I witnessed, and we are happy I'm able to write you this story today.

As soon as we got back to Lamu, I checked the Department of State's Travel warnings for the area and found that they strongly advised against any travel to Lamu County because of the terrorist killings and kidnappings of Al-Shabaab. Lesson learned. Always check the Department of State's website for travel warnings, even though friends say you'll love it. To read the first part of this story, go to The Flight Bag Page.
