I ordered this case hoping it would fit my new iPad Pro 9.7. It does. There are a few things that aren't perfect but not a deal breaker. There is a hole for the mute switch, which this iPad doesn't have, no big deal. The extra speakers on top are perfectly exposed. No issue there. A small bit of the flash on the back is covered but I don't use my iPad for pictures so I don't mind. Everything else is great. The top slot fits a little tight but I imagine it will give a little over time. I'm happy!!

I ordered my Saddleback Leather iPad Air 2 case for my new 9.7" iPad Pro last week. It just arrived and I could not be happier. I spent some time researching this case and was curious about the iPad Pro case until I realized that it was only made for the 12" iPad Pro. I finally read some of the reviews for the iPad Air 2 case being used with the 9.7" iPad Pro and everyone seemed very happy with it.
First, let me just say how much I love the smell of leather and this case upon opening does not disappoint. I cannot imagine how amazing it must be to live in Dave's house!!! I got this case in chestnut to match my large thin briefcase and id wallet. I love the color and the professional classy look that this color provides.
Second, I cannot believe how amazingly this case fits my iPad Pro. The little blocks of leather that hold the iPad in the case are perfectly placed so that the new speakers on top are exposed and give great sound. The speakers on the bottom are also well exposed with one on the bottom right slightly covered but just barely. It still provides great sound. I have read from others that the leather that holds the iPad in the case covered part of the screen. I don't know if there was a redesign to make the straps a bit narrower, but on my iPad they end perfectly where the screen starts and none of it is covered. The cutout on the back of the case is perfectly aligned and sized for the light sensor and camera.
Finally the thin design of the case helps maintain the thinness and sleekness of the iPad Pro and there is just enough extra leather around the iPad to protect it from all angles. I have made what amounts for me a huge investment in my iPad and I feel very satisfied that this case will keep it protected through out its life.
I was told by Dave's brother, in response to an email, that Dave is working on a case for the 9.7" iPad Pro but I cannot imagine a better designed or more well built case than this one for my iPad Pro. The quality of the case is unbeatable and I love everything about this case. I bought this iPad Pro with the idea that I won't be updating it for many generations of iPads to come. It is obvious this case will be with me for as many years as I own this iPad. It almost seems sad to buy such an amazing case for technology that will eventually become outdated.
As with all of my other Saddleback Leather gear this is a beautiful piece. I have plans to buy more SBL items as soon as my wallet catches up with my wish list. :-)
One word. WOW. GREAT ITEM. love it.
I just wish my iPad would last as long as the case. This case is amazing, I get tons of compliments on it. The only thing tougher than the leather used on this was waiting for the item to be ready for sale. Thanks for the quick shipping and for making another amazing product!
I wanted to wait a while before I wrote this review, as the thrill that accompanies a newly purchased toy can affect my opinion. I picked up a tobacco case in February 2016 & seven months later I can say without hyperbole, you will not find a better case.
Everything about this case says quality. It feels solid & durable in your hands, the stitching along the seams and and thick straps are solid. Unlike the cheaper plastic cases, this never fells like it will slip out of your hands & adds a genuine quality look that other cases simple do come close to offer. I initially picked up a folding screen cover at the Apple store, this always fell off & was pretty frustrating. Although it was a stiff fit when I first purchased this, my iPad has not budged even ¼ of an inch since i placed it in this cover.
I use my iPad at work as an extra screen & link to the internet, and the case offers a couple different standing positions. I wouldn't recommend standing to on its short edges, but laying flat on its back, or standing on it's long edges as in the picture, it takes a good effort to knock this over.
Love this item, Even picked up a matching tobacco iPhone case. Buy it, you know you want it.
I purchased this case for my iPad Pro 9.7 and it fits perfectly
So this is my third Saddleback iPad case I bought it for my iPad Pro 9.7.
My previous cases were for my iPad Air and an iPad2 case I'd bought in anticipation of buying my Air, before finding out that the form was changing (I used it on my Air for a while before I got the new case and then gave it to a friend who had an iPad2.)
My first thought -- square corners vs. round? Why? Really, why? I'm worried that they'll catch and rip (either the case or something else.
My second thought was that the leather wasn't as nice as my iPad Air case -- but I have a feeling after enough handling that'll work out.
I only hope that's the case for the unfinished interior. Also not as nice as the iPad Air case, which appears to be finished.
It'll break in fine but out of the box it's kind of a jarring drop in aesthetics. The case may be the same quality as my last one but id doesn't yet feel like it (hopefully it will soon).
I was recently using an iPad 2 in a Sadleback Carbon case, which I happen to really love. My wife got me the iPad Air 2 and my kids got me a new case... Upon opening this case I was immediately impressed. I have several Sadleback pieces, (Wallet, card holder/ wallet, IPhone 6 large sleeve, wife's leather tote, and others all in tobacco with the exception of my carbon iPad case) one thing I've noticed is that toboacco color varies greatly from piece to piece. I appreciate it and have learned to know that every piece is going to differ slightly in smell color and feel. Which in my opinion, should be expected as these hides come from different animals, and from varying areas. The only thing I don't love about this case is the suede side pig skin lining. I really like how easily the pig skin cleans up, I suppose only time will tell how well the suede side lining holds up. Over all an awesome piece, but then again I've come to expect that from this brand.
I love saddleback products simply due to the quality honesty and outstanding value. I received my iPad Air 2 case. The fit is prefect. The color chestnut absolutely nice. Thank you for a great product!
If you're not familiar with Saddleback products, do yourself a favor and try anything, I promise you will return and purchase other items. I have in my arsenal a gorgeous thin briefcase which only looks better with age,
a tow belt which is elegant but tough as nails, a bifold billfold that receives compliments when waiting to pay cashiers, and now the iPad Air 2 Case which is an instant classic. I don't know what two of the reviewers were not happy with but take it from me, there is not a better quality leather company out there. Thanks Dave!
I just ordered this case for my iPad and it came in very quick and I couldn't be happier! The quality and craftsmanship is out of this world! I can't say enough about it! I love how it looks, feels and smells! It looks professional and it is very functional. Far better than anything the Mac store has to offer and anything I have seen online. I cannot recommend this enough. The price wasn't bad and I plan on ordering more from Saddle back. I can't wait to show this off in front of my family and friends, I know they are going to be very jealous!
I recently purchased this for my 9.7 iPad Pro since it is the exact same dimensions as the the iPad Air 2. My only concern was how the case would fit around the speakers on the iPad. It fits perfect and I use the straps to hold my Apple Pen. If you use the keyboard you may run into an issue, I use a magic keyboard rather than the one made for the Pro. (Just personal preference.)
I was waiting patiently (well okay, not so patiently, lol) for the new iPad Air 2 case to arrive and it did not disappoint. I didn't think it was possible to improve on the iPad case but they did! I had continued to use my old case on my iPad Air 2 while waiting despite the fact it didn't fit because I couldn't imagine my iPad in anything else. I was hoping to get the tobacco color but it was out of stock but now I'm glad it was. Having two different colors lets me tell at a glance which iPad is which. I love the lightness of the new case which matches the lighter weight of the iPad Air 2. The interior pocket also looks like a great place to keep IDs or passport handy--can't wait to take it on a trip. For those that have not had one of these cases before they are extremely durable and hold up to toddlers dropping them. The cases while stiff initially also soften with use. Dave you hit it out of the park again! Thanks!!!
Surprised to see some mixed reviews here. I've experienced none of the issues mentioned elsewhere. Case is standard Saddleback excellence that I've come to expect. Design is good and quality is top notch. Would recommend without hesitation. Should you order, I hope you have the same experience. I'm not affiliated with Saddleback in any way.
Irritating to install. Poor fit to the device. Parts of the screen are covered. Button access is awkward at best. Using the iPad Air 2 in this case is not fun or convenient. I've bought a couple belts and a couple wallets from Saddleback and this is not what i've grown to expect from them. This leads me to question buying anything from this company again and advising those i have referred in the past to avoid Saddleback at all costs. Get it together you're better than this.
Case is awesome as usual just like I've learned to expect from this predictable company. I won't bore you with the details. The case has all the positive attributes of most every other Saddleback product. No negatives in my view. It's perfect. Yawn.
Updated my iPad to the air 2 which I meant to got to purchase another perfect product from Saddleback leather. Yeah!!!
Horribly disappointed when I received my new case. Gone was the sublime leather smell, the velvety soft honey colored tobacco leather. In its place an odd chemical smelling, rough " natural" marked cardboard like leather. Screams cheap. I would have gladly paid more for the same quality leather of years past. 2 stars because the function is good for my needs. Getting the charging cord in is awkward but the camera lines up well. Volume and power are accessed easily. I have not had any problems with ambient light like one reviewer mentioned. I hope, wish, pray SBL will offer the option of a higher quality leather; I am not impressed with the current feel or smell of the leather they are using.
I was expecting to be the same design as the one I used for my Ipad 2/3/4. This case was great and it served me well for many years. I then upgraded to the Air 2 and bought this case. The same good quality is there, but the design is lacking. It is not a direct fit and it partially covers the screen. The power on button as well as lightning charging port is buried deep and is hard to get to. I may have to go back to my non-leather Belkin keyboard case :(
So I have loved Saddleback products and had their iPad case for my 4th gen iPad and loved it, so naturally when I got my air 2 and saw this case I had to get one. I was not thrilled when the case showed up and the top section of leather by the front facing camera was too long and covered the top part of the iPad screen, it also messed with the ambient light sensor greatly causing the iPad screen to dim uncontrollably depending on the angle you held the iPad at (very annoying). I have to pass on this rendition of the iPad case, wish it was the same quality as the previous case I had. Maybe they will revise the design and I will give it another chance.
Sadly most of my most recent orders from Saddleback have ended in disappointment.
Leather - I had hoped that after the recent feedback on the quality of the DCB colored items they would make adjustments to the changes they had made to the leather. Didn't happened. Unlike older products, this leather is not dyed all the way through. It feels plastic to the touch, giving it a cheap feel and look. I actually like the new pig skin. Soft to the the touch and a more subdued look.
Case - This design is a step down from the previous iPad case. The iPad is secured via a snug fit and a piece of leather at the top that is suppose to prevent it from sliding out, but no actual mechanism to completely prevent the iPad from falling out. Not filling me with comfort. The top piece of leather covers a portion of the screen which influences the function of the iPad. I want to maintain all functions of my iPad when I buy a case for it. Th outside edge of the iPad is only protected at the corners and where the straps wrap around when the case is closed. The remainder of the edge is exposed and the top cover doesn't overlap the edge. I've had my iPad in a $30 case while I waited for this product to be created and feel like my iPad is much safer in that case and in comparison think they look to be of equal value.
When I was previously disappointed in the wallet that I purchased from Saddleback, I thought the wallet was worth the cost that paid for it, even though the quality of Saddleback's work had taken a significant hit. In this case, I do not feel the same way. This case is not worth the $98 ($100+ with shipping).
We took both of our iPads driving and flying on a trip through Scotland, Kenya, Rwanda, Australia, and New Zealand over a period of two months, and our iPads kept the kids quiet and entertained during boring stretches between destinations. It kept Suzette and myself entertained too, because we like to read books on planes, but we realized pretty quick that when it comes to our uncoordinated kids the iPads would need a little more protection. These protective cases are essential essential no matter what, but especially when traveling with kids. The covers kept our iPads functioning perfectly well across the world and in a variety of climates.
