Not lined with pigskin anymore

by

This is the same quality leather as before but I expected the case to be lined with pigskin as the one I have for my iPhone 4S. Not a big problem given the guarantee Dave puts on his work. Just letting you know this is a softer case now, not as though but because it's leather only it is gentler on the iPhone

Disappointed!

by

This is my seventh sbl purchase. My first disappointment. There is no pigskin lining with this sleeve at all....just bare leather. It pales in comparison to my old 4s sleeve. Highly disappointed. What happened to the lining?

Doesn't compare to Iphone 4S case

by

I purchased this after being EXTREMELY happy with my iPhone 4S case and my ipad case. Both are rugged, beautiful and have held up to the test of time. I expected a bigger version of the 4S case when I ordered the iPhone 6 & 6 Plus case. While the case looks similar, it is very thin (flimsy by comparison) and feels like vinyl compared to the original 4S case. I understand the desire to keep the case thin, but it makes it difficult to slide the phone in/out of the case. If you are expecting the same thick, rugged case as the iphone 4 case, you might be disappointed.

Disappointed

by

I own a LOT of Saddleback Leather (Desk Pad, iPad, Moleskine cover, Folio covers, iPhone 5 case). I hesitated buying an iPhone 6 until I saw that the case was available. Like others I was expecting a larger version of my beloved iPhone 5 case. I also would describe it as "flimsy" versus the old case. I can't understand why the pigskin lining was eliminated. I hope it wears in well like my other prized Saddleback products!

I like it, but...

by

I had the case for my 5 and 5s and it was GREAT!!! It was/is very durable. This one for the 6+ is not lined with pigskin at all, its unfinished/unlined leather. Because its unlined it makes it a little tough to get my iPhone out, but I think it just needs time to wear in. I am still confident it will be just as durable as the case for the 5/5s,

What's the fuss with the absence of pigskin?

by

First off, I do not own this product yet. What I do have is the SBL phone case for the 5S, which I think is a perfect case in the finest SBL tradition.

My 5S case is unlined and inserting my finger in it reveals to me a soft, suede-like surface that has never scratched my phone for almost two years now and I use my phone a LOT. At first I was worried the case my loosen to the point my phone will slip out unintentionally by gravity. My phone case has held up well till this day.

I can imagine pigskin lining is unnecessary for this type of product. Better use the pigskin supply on other SBL products. Loved the generous pigskin lining on my Tank backpack.

Not for iphone 6

by

Purchased this on 12/17/14 for my new phone. Good thick, sturdy leather. Absolutely not the right size for iphone 6. Picture shows iphone 5. Couldn't cram my phone into it more than 1/2 inch before the cover buckled with the force. This needs to go back to the drawing board. Am giving it to a friend with an iphone 5 which fits perfectly in it. Sorry to write a negative review as my other SBL products are the best leather I own.

Great Phone Found A Great Companion

by

Guess what prompted me to write this review? I dropped my phone onto the cold, hard ground today! Fortunately, the phone was in the case and as what Dave had shown in his videos, the case completely protected the phone by absorbing the impact. As the ends are slightly arched, the impact was transferred to the case as it hit the ground and the phone did not suffer any scratches or dent at all. Initially, I hesitated in buying the case after reading some of the reviews but proceeded to buy it anyway, believing the quality of the product. My trust in the product has not been misplaced after experiencing it. To those who thought the case is 'less rugged' and tough as it's not lined by pigskin (even though I love the dark pigskin on my old iPad 3), I really don't think it's true at all. It fits my iPhone 6 perfectly. Of course, you shouldn't be using this case whilst your phone is still married to another 'slim' cover. Obviously, three's a crowd. Loving the DCB every single day!

I stand corrected!

by

I wrote a review earlier about my iphone 6 case that you can scroll through and read. I'm unable to edit it so I'm writing a new review. Apparently the company sent me the wrong sleeve and it was actually made for the iphone 5. I gave it away to a friend and they're currently using it. Then, Saddleback contacted me and sent out a new sleeve. The new one fits perfectly and is the right size. It's still snug but I can tell it's made for the iphone 6. Leather is thick and sturdy but the inside is highly brushed and I don't feel there's any need for pigskin lining. It's very soft inside but the sturdiness of the piece really will protect the phone for transport. What great customer service! Thank you guys!

Close, but not the "high" standard I'm used to...

by

Love my iPhone5 case.

The iPhone 6, notsomuch.

That is not to say it's a bad case, it's a very good case, actually. But when compared to the "old" iPhone5 case, it's not quite to the same quality standard.

The iPhone6 case leather is much more textured and feels thinner. It almost feels like pleather. The dark coffee brown is a different hue than all my other dark coffee brown items, and that is comparing it to a lot of items, let me tell you...

Still, all-in-all, it's a very good case. Just not quite to the high standard we usually see from Saddleback.

Won't stop me from buying anything else, I must say.

Cheers!

It just looks so good.

by

I have to admit that I'm relatively new to saddleback, this was only my third purchase (fourth if you count a christmas gift I bought for someone) and I'm continually impressed at the awesome quality. I wouldn't want to drop my phone from any great height, but I would cringe at the idea of that regardless of the case it is in. The hole at the bottom is exactly the right size, it is big enough that the speakers and microphone are unobstructed, but not so big that it leaves the phone vulnerable. It's nice that I can just plug the phone in and use the "Hey Siri" feature while driving without having to even take it out of the case. It also is snug enough after breaking in that there's no chance of the phone falling out, but not so snug it is hard to slide the phone out. I got the tobacco and it's already developing a hint of a patina and the scratches make it look better all the time. I actually put a really good scratch right down the middle of the front of the case while putting my phone in a zippered pocket. I didn't realize it at the time but my wife said to me that night "Do you see what you've done to this?!" She was genuinely concerned and thought I had really messed up my beautiful sleeve. I was concerned too for a moment, but I rubbed it for less than 30 seconds and the scratch faded in with most of the rest of them. That was very cool. It looks so good that I usually leave it sitting out on my desk in front of me during class. If there is anything to complain about it is the fact that this case does make the already not-so-pocket-friendly iPhone 6 even less pocket friendly. I have to take it out to bend over and tie my shoes or it digs in to my gut. In all fairness, the phone already did that a bit before I had the sleeve. Plus, it's a case, it's not exactly going to shrink the phone now is it? I would definitely recommend, and would buy again.

6plus

by

I don't see what the big fuss is about the new sleeves not being lined w/pigskin? The sleeve is softer and more flexible and the inside is soft as well! Great case to protect my 6plus! The only annoying thing is the pieces of loose leather thread on the inside of the case gets all over the phone screen whenever you take it out :/

Great Case (...but keep an eye on the black one if you have a silver or gold iPhone 6 / 6 Plus).

by -

I actually like the new case, it took a bit to break it in to get the iPhone 6 Plus to slide in easily (basically left it in over the weekend and by Monday it was pretty much good to go).

The black looks great and goes great with the gold iPhone but there is one thing I noticed yesterday (and the reason why I gave the case only four stars vs. five). I can't speak to the reason why because I'm not a leather expert but I believe because the case is no longer pigskin lined and just raw leather, there was some black color transfer on the white antenna lines on the back and sides of the iPhone. I was able to get it off by using some rubbing alcohol but currently am not using the case because of it.

Bottom line, it's a good case but if you have a silver or gold iPhone 6 / 6 Plus and mild OCD (meaning things like color transfer catch your eye and bother you), you may want to try a different color. Otherwise I highly recommend it.

Last Saddleback order?

by -

I own the Saddleback wallet and have also owned the 2 previous iPhone cases which I loved. They were thick and chunky and oozed quality. Just showing it to other people prompted them to go and buy their own.

This new one however is really disappointing, it looks like it has been made by a completely different company. Really thin leather in comparison, no pigskin inner, not as tough and sturdy as the others, certainly nothing to show off anymore. It does smell great though.

Despite the fantastic customer service I don't think I'm going to order from SBL again which is a real shame.

Tight at first, but.....

by

Overall this is a good case for the iPhone6. Like others, I was a little disappointed in the lack of the liner. Having used the sleeve for 4 months now I have developed a new problem. At first, the sleeve was tight and held my device comfortably. The leather has stretched too much now and my phone will free fall out of the sleeve if turned upside down. I am not sure if it's just the piece of leather I received or if others have experienced similar issues. I did not experience this problem with my SBL iPhone4 sleeve.

I love Saddleback.....but we this one could have been better.

by

I love Saddleback with a passion. From comments at the airports to everyday places, I get comments on my SB leather items. I still have my personal phone in the iphone 5 case, but this new case for my company iphone 6s is lacking the true SB style. The leather is coming apart on the inside.

Not good

by -

The sleeve for the 6+ is 2 millimeters thinner than my 5s sleeve. I have the sleeve in black and it looks and feels more like neoprene because it's so thin and flexible. (by the way, Coffee Brown is a better color). The pigskin lining really gave my older 5s sleeve stiffness and durability, but ease of sliding it in and out. The absence of a lining makes it really hard to push my phone in and put because the bare leather grips like rubber. I've missed calls because I simply can't eject my own damn phone from the sleeve. I hate to leave a bad review, but it's the most honest thing I can do about my feelings toward this sleeve.

Iphone 6 plus case for Samsung Note4

by -

I recently purchased the iPhone 6 Plus case to try with my Samsung Galaxy Note 4. I knew that it would be a little tight at first but after a couple days of breaking in the lather I already can see improvements. It fits the Galaxy Note 4 almost perfectly. So, this case is not only for the iPhone, it will fit Galaxy Note 4 & Galaxy S6/S5 with ease.

So dont be afraid to order this case! I would have liked to see some kind of sheep skin or other smooth material in this inside but it is still nice the way it is now, bare leather. It does not have any issues with scratching the phone, just a little snugger getting in and out of the case. So far so good with this case and I can see it working out nicely.

Overemphasis on the Overengineered

by -

Like many others in the reviews, I'm a long time purchaser of Saddleback iPhone cases. My husband and I, years ago, ordered the phones and cases simultaneously. When he got his Saddleback case, he spent hours squeezing and bending his Saddleback to break it in and make it softer right off the bat. Not me -- I preferred to keep my Saddleback case stiff as a board.

As mentioned by others, these new cases (and I just had one of the "old styles" for the iPhone 5) feel as though they come "broken in" already, because they're substantially thinner. So, instead of the Saddleback that I'm used to -- a case that takes some time and effort to fold, squish, and squeeze if you're so inclined -- you get a really squishy case right off the bat. My young daughter loves the feel of leather and holding my phone -- in shopping carts, airports, etc. -- but I'm actually a little nervous that the phone won't survive one of her "drops" the way it used to.

I'd be less annoyed if Saddleback themselves came right out and said it's a different design or thickness of leather, but instead you guys have written that the case is "overengineered,"which it very well may be, but it's underengineered compared to the previous version, and a heads up would have been nice.

I feel kind of like when a TV show changes actors for a character midway through the series and never acknowledges it. Everyone knows there's been a change, so why pretend there hasn't been?

Two other thoughts -- if I hadn't owned multiple previous phone cases, I might not even have anything to complain about, because I wouldn't have the old quality basis of comparison. And, secondly, I have purses, luggage, wallets, etc., that I'm super pleased with, but if I reordered one of those in another color or size and found their thickness and quality had also been changed without notice, I might really start to reconsider... Especially because those items cost substantially more to begin with...

iPhone 6 for Galaxy SIII

by -

Yes the SIII is an old phone, but it still works and I was in need of a new case. I opted for the iPhone 6 case knowing that my phone was significantly larger. And it was. It was super tight to get in and almost impossible to remove, at first, but after regular use and a few rounds of stretching it now fits like a perfect glove. I used multiple pieces of cardboard to stretch. I used the back of a legal note pad cut in phone-width strips and put as many in the case as I could fit. I did this a few times while leaving it overnight and it worked perfectly. As long as your phone is not wider than the stitching, or substantially thicker than the intended phone, I would definitely recommend this case as a potential option. I gave it a 4 because of the lack of lining. I think the case is fine as is, but my friend had one for his iPhone 5 and I was really impressed with the extra layer of protection. This case is really good, but it definitely lacks a little without the pigskin.

miss the pig skin lining!

by -

With the lining the 4s cover I have is more substantial. Don't get me wrong, this cover will still protect my phone better than some cheap plastic thing that only covers the back and absorbs no impact.

The lining, however, really added something to the feel (and no doubt, protection).

Bring it back for the next one Dave!

Great Product...Not Just for iPhone

by -

I just received my iPhone 6 Plus case hoping it would fit my Samsung Galaxy Note 5, and I couldn't be happier! It fits the Note 5 like a glove, which I expected since the two phones are nearly identical in size. The tobacco leather is awesome like all the other Saddleback products I've ordered. And to top it off, I've always carried my phone in an OtterBox, which has cost me $50-$60 bucks a pop, and every time I upgrade my phone, I've got to shell out another wad of cash for a case. I wanted to start enjoying my phone without the big clunky box on it, but I also don't want to shatter it when I drop the phone unprotected. At half the price, for a case that will only get better with age, and will probably fit at least the next few phone upgrades I make, the decision is a no-brainer. Great case for a great phone!

Under Engineered For Your Frustration

by -

I read most of the reviews before ordering, but did so any way when I upgraded from 5S to 6S.

- All of the reviews talking about lack of pigskin are correct. The issue isn't resolved.

-The case is inferior quality to the 5S sleeve.

-It is functional and looks good from the outside, but leaves leather particles all over the screen, very shoddy and poor.

I agree with everyone else that this case is not consistent with other products here. It is a disgrace and shameful they continue shipping them after all of the very thoughtful reviews.

The phone fits well and will be protected, but it is not a case to be proud of and you will have to clean it every time the phone is pulled out.

Worth it!

by -

I was worried about buying this because of some of the reviews. I owned the iPhone 5 sleeve and absolutely loved it. While I do miss the pig skin interior, this sleeve is definitely worth it. I feel confident that if I drop my iPhone while in this sleeve, I wouldn't be worried about a cracked screen. Plus it's sexy as hell!

Great sleeve - 6s Plus

by -

After looking around for a leather iPhone sleeve of decent quality, I was pretty disappointed with most of what's on the market. Most options are either cheaply made, extremely expensive, or both. I eventually purchased this one from Saddleback despite some of the bad reviews here and I'm glad I did. The leather is thick enough without being bulky and it will definitely protect against damage resulting from impacts, scrapes, minor drops, etc. The stitching is also very well done and seems like it's made to last. My 6s Plus fits perfectly, even with the Tozo ultra-thin snap-on case I'm using.

I'd characterize this case as being somewhere between classy and rugged. It's nice. I think if Indiana Jones were going to bring his iPhone to a cocktail party, this is the case he'd use.

That said, this case isn't perfect. The cut-out at the bottom is too shallow for insertion of the phone in a top-down position without partial obstruction of the light sensor, which makes the hands-free "Hey, Siri" feature sort of spotty when the screen is off. It's basically fine when the phone is inserted bottom-first, but then there's no access to the headphone jack and the speaker grille is partially covered, muffling the speaker somewhat. Also, my sleeve arrived with a small line (maybe 6 or 7mm) where there is no finish, exposing the lighter leather underneath—not a big deal, but I'd rather put my own marks on it as time goes on, rather than having some right out of the packaging. Further, the cuts at the opening to this sleeve seem to have been done at a slight angle which makes them sort of asymmetrical, a problem that my Saddleback card sleeve—which is basically a scaled-down version of the same sleeve—doesn't have. Most of this is just nitpicking, but I figured I'd mention it for the sake of other nitpickers.

Also, for what it's worth, I don't think the lack of a pigskin lining (which I read about in other comments) is particularly detrimental, and I'm still satisfied with this case regardless. Maybe I'm just a lowly plebeian, though.

Overall, 4.5/5. Definitely the best overall option that I've come across. I bought and returned cases made by other companies that cost twice as much and weren't half as good.

Story

I was driving through Wyoming one time in winter. Blue was in the passenger seat, It was 8 degrees, snow was blowing, the roads were icy. It was about 2 in the morning, and I thought because I had big mud terrain tires on my old Land Cruiser that I would be able to drive a little faster than everybody else. I was wrong. Ice does not play favorites. Oh yeah, and I didn’t have seat belts in there.

I rolled the Land Cruiser, and when I came to my senses, I think Blue was dead. My toolbox had hit him and he was completely limp. I held him and cried out a short and loud prayer. Miraculously, Blue came back. Maybe he was just unconscious. Maybe not. Either way, I learned then and there that nature has no friends.

An hour later, my Land Cruiser was pulled upright again and I drove on. You can bend those Iron Pigs, but you can’t break ‘em. Maybe that’s where my obsession with over-engineering everything started. I like to play it safe just in case the worst happens. If you’re the kind of person who likes over-engineered things, and has a habit of testing limits, you’re going to want to have this to protect your iPhone far more than you need it to. You can bend it, but you can’t break it.

Iphone 6 plus case for Samsung Note4

Worth it!
