I recently made my first purchase with Saddleback Leather. I bought the bible case to use for taking to church. For studying I primarily use a Thompson Chain Bible. I am very disappointed that they do not have a case for a larger study bible. I also was disappointed of the need to cut the bible I purchased to make it fit; however Dave warned of this so I was prepared to. The Bible cover is gorgeous! My wife suggested I opt for the chestnut color and I don't think I could be happier! The leather is very sumptuous and smells amazing! The case looks like it will hold up to many years of use and get more beautiful with age. I purchased a Zondervan KJV reference bible. Besides having to cut the covers it works wonderfully. I would highly recommend this bible case to anyone needing one!

I got this for my Baptist Preacher friend. He and I both grew up on Indiana Jones so I joked with him that if his Bible won't fit it, he can put a "larger" small pad in there and be like Professor Jones.
He loves it and his Cross bookmark (both bought here).
I love how amazing your customer service is. Wish all websites were like this... and did not sell any leather products so you would have no competition. ;)
Thanks again for your great website.
This product is outstanding. It is just what you would expect from Saddleback Leather in terms of quality of construction. The only issue that I have with it is that it should be about 1.5-2" wider so that it fits most of the medium sized Bibles available at Christian bookstores such as Life Way. I had to trim my Bible's cover so that it would fit, which is not ideal since it is marketed as a Bible cover. Otherwise it is a great product.
Awesome quality can't wait for it to break in and lossen up. For $49 it's more than worth the money!!
I have an adorable, rescued mini-dachshund who decided one day to see if the word of God really was meat for the soul. I caught her chewing on my Bible! The pages escaped mostly unharmed, but the back cover was missing a large section at the top. I didn't want to dispose of this Bible so I came to SBL to check out the leather Bible cover. The cover is great! It is very thick leather that will withstand years of use and travel. It is beautiful. My Bible is small so the cover is quite a bit taller than the book, but the width is perfect. The book is now protected and looks great.
I bought this cover to use on my medium Leuchturm1917 as I was advised the moleskine cover would not fit as it as well. I picked the Tobacco Brown color as I have previously owned and still use a Tobacco ID wallet from ~2013. I also own a 2012ish Dark Coffee Brown Classic Briefcase - Large with the dark pigskin that I take everywhere. One thing I have noticed from the Saddleback community is a lot of resistance to change when it comes to El Presidente changing the tanning processes or materials that go into products. I will say that I absolutely do not feel cheated or short-handed getting this current (June 2016) bible cover. The new logo is on the inside flap, letting the product speak for itself. On the opposite side flap is the logo of Blue. No pigskin lining, but it is not needed for this particular product and would add unnecessary bulk. Stitching was over-machined as usual (in a good way) and straight out of the mail it is stiff but supple to the touch. The only slight worry I have with this cover is the leather closure - I see it wearing out before the 100 years are up, but it would be an easy fix if that were to happen. I may suggest possibly integrating some of the mountainback canvas as an optional closure, I think that would hold up better if waxed and made to match the colors of the leather. Feel free to send a prototype one in Dave ;) haha.
After ordering this Bible Cover as a gift for my mom for Christmas, Texas had some severe weather which delayed shipping. I started to get impatient waiting to see the new Tobacco color for myself. Tonight it finally came and wow does it look gorgeous. I can't wait to someday order a Side pocket Duffel in tobacco for myself. My mom is going to just love her new bible cover. I think it will fit her personality just right. Big thanks to Dave and his team.
This is my second SBL bible cover order. The first, in tobacco, made an incredible impression as a medium moleskine cover gift. The second, in dark coffee brown, is a perfect cover for a Leuchtturm1917 notebook which fills it out a little better. It takes a second for the leather to break-in a bit and cover the notebook perfectly. This cover is an excellent gift of heirloom quality that will last many notebooks and beyond.
A note on finishes: the tobacco will patina faster and develop more dramatic character, while the dark coffee brown leather will look more uniform for longer. Both feel and smell great (although the tobacco has a slightly better aroma ;)
No way I'll ever wear it out. The simple leather tie closure works very well, and can be done one -handed with practice. The only possible issue is the leather looks so nice, I feel self-conscious taking it out when people are around. I guess it needs to get a little beat-up. That might help.
Of course, it should fit a good number of small to medium size books also. In book-lingo, a small octavo, roughly speaking. Measuring is probably a good idea if you have a particular book in mind.
I am super happy to inform that my bible cover fits amazing on my bible.i took it to Walmart to find a bible that fit just perfect.Ill be honest I wasn't sure if there was one but actually there where several.I had to cut a quarter inch on each side of the hard cover but it looks real good. The only thing I am worried is that my brothers will covet for it.Super great product. The word of God doesn't deserve any less.
Can't say enough good about this cover. Easy to "set up" and very durable. I have had this two years and absolutely love it.
I got the chestnut bible cover, and I couldn't be more thrilled!!!!! Sure I had to trim front and back cover, yet its still a bit of a squeeze, but it works. I love this. I love the color the smell and the concept. I cant wait to see what it looks like when it turns a different color from use and age. I will cherish this. Thanks Saddleback Leather Company, for providing such a wonderful thing to keep my bible in :)
The Saddleback bug bit me quickly! I spent nearly $2000 in 2 weeks time on different items, and this is my favorite! I use it as a journal cover, NOT a bible cover. It does fit a Moleskine after a little bit of work on the leather. I do have a few journals so I also bought the "Moleskine Cover" and I do like this a lot more. I enjoy the closure on it. I also love the simplicity and not having the pig skin lining. This allowed me to beat it up like an old baseball glove. I used Chamberlain's, I wrapped it tightly, stretched it, got it wet, took a high pressured steamer to it, twisted it, threw it and beat it on every hard surface I could find. After 1 week of this horrid abuse, it looks and feels amazing! If you are comparing this with the moleskine cover, I highly recomend this instead.
I bought the cover in dark coffee brown and have been using it for a few months now. I carry my bible in my bag with me just about everywhere and have no concerns about it getting beat up--in fact I wish it would get some "personality" even faster!
I found that for it to fit my bible I had to trim about a quarter inch off the front edges of the bible's cover, but no big deal. You can tell if you need to do this because it won't quite close with the bible in the cover, but it looks like it should fit.
I'd love to see this in more sizes to fit more bibles. I have a very thick study bible that I'd love to have in a cover as well.
LOVE my new Tobacco Bible Cover! After a couple of days of gradually stretching the leather, I was able to fit my cloth hardcover copy of the ESV Reader's Bible into it. Now this Bible is beautifully protected when it's packed in my bag, and fastening the leather clasp keeps it closed and the pages from getting smashed. Both the feel and the smell of the leather are fantastic. Would love it if there was a larger size available too!
I really like the high quality leather, the color and even that wonderful leather smell. As a pastor (www.flbconline.com) I wanted something that was beautiful and would last. I do love it and have been fascinated by the story Saddleback Leather and the craftsmanship for a long time. This was my first purchase and I am thrilled! I do have to say that the measurements is really weird, I had to go to my local Christian bookstore and still couldn't find a Bible to fit right. I finally just had to go with a less expensive King Jimmy and just cut the cover to make it fit. I sure hate to have done that, but it was the only way. Outside of that, I am very happy with it.
This is an absolutely beautiful product!! I've bought two of these over the last few years; one in the dark brown, and the other as a gift in tobacco brown. I don't read the Bible but I do use this as a journal cover for work and it's quality is unparalleled. I get lots of compliments and the dark brown leather has broken in very nicely.
The second cover was a gift new my friends son, and I did include a Bible in that one. I have to say, I was a little jealous when I saw how cool that tobacco brown looks, but I was way more excited to give him a gift he will enjoy for the rest of his life.
I have enjoyed several products from Saddleback Leather, and I have never been disappointed. Great company!
I brought the cover to my local christian book store -- the first question, "...from where did you purchase THAT?" The leather is absolutely beautiful. While I will use for my bible, it will also accommodate a Kindle and Vela Series-N2 5.5 x 8.5 inch Field Research Notebook. This is my third Saddleback purchase (wallet and clutch purse). My sons have added the Saddleback briefcase to their wish lists. I suspect the Tumi and Zero Halliburton cases will be donated to good will.
I gave this to my mom as a "mother's day gift", and she literally started to cry when she saw it!..Happy tears though. This bible cover is made beautifully, sturdy, but still buttery soft to the touch, and I love the color as well. The leather smells great also! My mom said she was distracted at church because she kept smelling the leather the whole time!
I got this in combination with a Classic Tobacco Briefcase. Both from Dave's Deals and its hard to say which I like better.
The pull string is clever, the leather soft to the touch and just so handsome.
My Bible leather cover is now currently being used to house one of my favorite hardbound books, The Emperor's Handbook. Judging by the perfect fit; one would guess these two were made for each other. As absurd as it sounds now, one of my benchmarks for buying books is if it'll fit in the SB cover. It also fits my Moleskine notebook perfectly; an added plus.
Fourth and final product (for now) to review. Protects the good book like a champ, makes packing it a safe proposition (can't count the torn pages on the bible I recieved over a decade ago as a graduation gift). The perfect bible to fit this is the Zondervan Thin Line bible...picked it up from Mardel today PERFECT fit...Dave maybe there's a partnership opportunity? At any rate, if anyone needs to find a fit, this is the way to go (they make NIV, and KJV). What a way to add some class and a little bit of heritage to my study time.I'm big on leaving a legacy for my son, and for him to see me study with this on my bible, will hopefully remind him of who his real father is when I'm gone (should be a good while from now :) ).
This doesn't come close to fitting my King James/Peoples Parallel Translation Bible. I just wrap around the Bible and close. This is the world's best leather and even though it doesn't fit any Bible I own, I am keeping it. It still holds my notepad and other things that I use with the Bible. This was my first purchase 3 weeks ago. Since then, I have ordered journal, cell phone case, big wallet, slim wallet and another bag. I'm ADDICTED!
Uso el cobertor de Biblia con seguro color marrón café oscuro y es exacto a lo que ves en la foto.
Cuidan cada detalle.
Excelentes productos, mucho éxito.
I received this cover a few weeks ago and I am very satisfied with the workmanship and quality. I carry my Bible almost everywhere I go and this is perfect to keep my Thinline Bible cradled and protected. I purchased the dark coffee brown and I have just gravitated to the richness of the color. I also got the cover that has the closure feature which is a nice touch. Saddleback Leather makes some of the most awesome leather goods I've ever seen. I will be back for more leather goodness that's for sure!
I was living in Juarez, Mexico when I had my first Bible cover made. I had found a saddle maker, Samuel, to make a few of my bags and also make some Bible covers. In order to get to his little workshop, I had to pass all the way through his parents’ long and narrow home.
I’d come in through the front door and pass through the living room where his very large and shirtless non self-conscious dad always seemed to be, laying on a bed. Then I’d pass through the kitchen and then a bedroom, often with people sleeping, and then out a side door just before the last bedroom. The narrow walkway with all the family chickens lead me on back to leather heaven. It wasn’t pretty, but it sure smelled like a million bucks.
So I laid my little Bible down, told him what I imagined and let him go to work. After a half dozen tries, I was more than pleased. The more I used it, the more it aged. The more it aged the more people commented on it. The more they commented, the more full of pride I became. How ironic was that? The cover of a book that taught about how much God hated pride was filling me with little bits of it. Was I causing others to sin too? Heck, would this cause people to covet or envy or become jealous? Would it cause someone to eventually do something even worse like steal? Murder?” Things can escalate quickly when it comes to nice leather.
But then I thought this. Whoa, was this Bible cover actually going to strengthen the Universal Church as a whole? Possibly. Owners will become stronger as they learn to fight their pride and non-owners will have to exercise their spiritual muscles to overcome. OR, they can be selfless and buy one for someone.
I’m not finished yet. You know what, it always bothers me to look down at a Bible and see it covered with bonded leather. Am I the only one seeing the glaring contradiction here? You have the greatest treasure known to man - the actual words of God - covered with the crappiest leather known to man. Odd to you?
