Gorgeous dog collar, robust and rugged and classy all rolled into one, Saddleback were fantastic to deal with, we had an issue and it was rectified immediately and we couldn't be happier, what a sterling company.
Ok, the large is very large! I have an 80 lb Malamute and we are having to use the smallest hole on the large sized collar and there it is still too big. Fortunately he is still growing, so I guess he will grow in to it.
PRO TIP: The excess leather strap is not held down, so I used a zip tie to lock it down. Looks great and addresses the problem others have mentioned about not having another loop or strap to hold the extra leather down!
Another extremely high quality product from the greatest leather company in the world in my opinion!
Guys, please make a 6' leash. you only make a 4' and I need a 6' for training purposes.
Great quality product with great hardware. I'm very happy with this collar overall, but you MUST measure. I have a 11 lb terrier mix and the mall fits him on the last hole. I just guessed with the size , but I'm afraid that the medium would have been way too big. Might just be bad luck with my dog's neck size.
The leather is awesome, and it's starting to build some character with "dog oil" and some marks from random scratching. Its very thick, which for me is great. With a small dog, most store bought collars look more like cat collars to me. It's a handsome accessory, for a handsome (albeit small) dog.
This is an awesome dog collar. There are no frills here. It's simple, but serves its purpose flawlessly. It's rugged, yet elegant at the same time. Looks beautiful on my dog, and will on yours', too. Another high quality item from SBL.
I bought the dark coffee brown in 1 1/2 inches (size L) for my chocolate lab. I bought it on Dave's Deals. The collar is beautiful and sturdy, but the Large is a little big for my full grown lab, but the medium would have been too small. I have it on the smallest setting. As a result, there is a bit of tail on the end and no way to secure it. Doggie got a hold of the end and chewed it the other day. The bite marks add character, but I would prefer not to have this tail sticking out so much.
Looks great and is durable. I have 2 collars for my 2 dogs.
My complaints are the D ring runs around the collar and makes it hard/ frustrating to find when my dog is jumping to go out in the morning and I'm not fully awake yet.
Also, my dogs are in between sizes so we went larger and the excess kind of flaps around in the air like a "dog ear" (haha!).
I would have loved a 2nd leather ring to help secure the parts of the leather with larger holes not in use. Maybe something stationary with the D ring?
This is a great product. First of all it looks amazing, rugged and add some heritage to your dog (specially to a big breed, like a Lab that is my case). I do not use the collar for restraint porpoises, only to attach the ID and to have somewhere to grab in case is needed, cause when we walk in the city I use a choque collar and in the woods he goes leash off. I have to mention that my dog wear the collar every day, almost all the day and he do not seems to get uncomfortable. Angus is an active dog, he walks in the woods during the week and in the weekends we go to camp, hiking, mountaineering, he swims, run, play fetch and everything I happy dog does. I mention all of this because the collar do not get damage in any activity or situation, with the proper care and treatment it is going to last for this dog and for many other after him. It is almost 6 months of heavy use and this beautiful collar only get scratches that adds a nice look to it.

It's almost as pretty as my beloved Rottweiler that wears it. The sizing DOES seem to run a little big. I got the Large 1.25" for my baby girl - she was a little bit of the runt of the litter but is still an adult Rottie, around 80-85lbs (depending on how many treats she suckers out of me).
So just keep that in mind when ordering.
Pretty good collar, although overpriced. Our dogs like to chew each other's collars and this one was destroyed beyond repair within two weeks. I put the cheap five-year old leather collar back on. It's chewed up as well, but still serviceable. If you don't have the collar-chewing problem, this is a good looking item. Not very durable, though.
First, is to chase the deer away from my roses, tomatoes and beet greens. This provides me with an excuse to join my family members in acquiring Saddleback leather.
Got mine in the mail a couple days ago, quality is good, leather will probably loosen up over time like the other products but just a note to people who have tiny dogs, these collars probably aren't for you. I have a 8lb miniature dachshund and got the XS collar. It's actually very bulky on her and a bit too long. I think maybe if it were 0.5in rather than 0.75 and 9 or 10 inches instead of 12 it would be perfect. Giving 4 stars because I think one of these would be awesome on my Lab or another large dog, but for small dogs these aren't ideal.
The leather and hardware are good quality and the fit is pretty good. When the collar came it was very dry but after several coats of conditioner it felt like all of the other Saddleback products I have purchased. One thing that it needs is an extra leather or metal band to secure the excess collar. The D ring works for that purpose okay until you need to hook the dog up to a leash or it just naturally moves from the movement of the dog.
The collar I bought is a little big for my puppy, but I know that she'll grow into it so that is no problem. I feel like having a second leather band on the collar would be helpful as the excess leather just sticks out without anything to hold it down especially if your pooch is small and will grow more. Also because it's such a beefy collar it's hard to attach a pet ID tag onto it, but there is a metal rivet hole on the band that fit the purpose just fine. I'm giving it 5 out of 5 because it's exactly what was promised and unparalleled quality, but there might be room for a small improvement or two in the future.
We received our 1.25" medium collar yesterday and couldn't be happier. It fits our 90 boxer perfectly with 2 notches to spare (his neck measured 20.25 inches at the base). And it is the most beautiful collar I've ever seen. Our proud boy loves it! It even endured his rough self-neck-scratching without showing any signs of damage, just a few light indentations. His previous collar you could see day 1 where he had scratch his neck as the vinyl fibers had already started to fray a bit. I've wanted to buy him a leather collar before, but the ones we found at stores were either cheap crap, or expensive cheap crap. When you hold this collar in your hand, you can tell the difference.
One note on design that I wasn't 100% sure of when ordering: the floating tag ring & the "stopper." As you'll notice from the pics, right below the notches is a smaller piece of leather perpendicular to the rest of the collar. From the pictures it seems slightly odd as you don't see that design choice on any other collars. But after a day of Duncan wearing it, I really appreciate what it is. The tags are able to free float around the collar to that point, without getting stuck at the buckle. The color of the 'copper' rivets is deep and they look really nice. Duncan is a reverse brindle and the rivets really play off his fur color nicely.
I was hoping for a thick, rugged collar. What I got was a kin to the utility straps they used to sell. Don't get me wrong it is thicker than those, but not by much. Also, leather feells very rubbery. Also on the sizing. I ordered a Medium for my 6 year old full size collie. The medium is to big. So I have to return it, for a small? That doesn't seem right. Honestly the Martha Stewart collars at Pets Mart are as good of quality as this is. I am a long time saddleback fan/owner but I am afraid they dropped the ball here, and I'm not going to fetch.
