I had been putting off buying an iPad for years as my trusty laptop was still getting the job done . But once I saw the new iPad Air case I knew it was time to pull the trigger. I Love this case almost as much as the iPad. They really do make a perfect pair . Thanks guys for making such fabulous products as I feel this is only the start of a long relationship .
I had the original ipad case and was impressed by the quality and rugged construction. This case is slightly different in design but again the quality is there. I like this design a little more than the original. I look forward to ordering more products from this terrific company. All the best. Peter
I purchased my case when they where just coming out , and always sold out . I love my case more now then when I purchased it if you love the different , out of the box , laid back appearance this is for you . We are big Harley Riders fly & rides & lots of road miles , couldn't ask for a safer or more complimenting case . Thanks Dave & Team @ Saddleback PS I love the leather strap I have a cool charm on it making it even more personalized
I am extremely satisfied with the iPad Air case. I have used it in my work for about two weeks. The fit is perfect, and I mean really perfect. The finnish of the case is outstanding. The functionality of the display angle is as good as it can get. Yes, the leather is stiff, but it is OK, not a problem for me.
I also think it will protect the unit as well as the big plastic one who's name is a sea animal. The hundred year warrantee is useless as the iPad will be long gone before the case shows any sign of wear.
I had a problem with UPS delivering to the wrong house. It was delivered almost 1/4 mile away. UPS was not friendly in helping resolve the problem, but Saddleback sent me another one (by a different carrier that I requested) very quickly. The company is OUTSTANDING in their customer service!!!
In conclusion, two wonderful products - iPad Air and Saddleback case. It is weird to have something so new protected by something so classical. Took a while to get used to that.
This thing is really good. Excellent design, excellent construction. It's really well done. I have a number of Saddleback products and this case is just as fine as anything else that bears the Saddleback logo. It works for me. Good job, Dave.
Wife & I each have one. We want to love the cases, but has some features that are not as good as her 1st-gen iPad Saddleback case. We both find it extremely difficult to plug it in because the case is in the road. The little strap is really silly. Overall I like it, but a bit disappointed. Wife? Not so much. (Umm, I mean my wife doesn't like the case so much...) I would very reluctantly recommend, but with awkward disclaimers.
I read the reviews of iPad Air case and waited a long time to purchase the case. I was concerned about complaints of dry leather, misalignments of leather openings and straps that were not pliable enough. I decided to buy the case anyway based on my passed experience with other excellent products from Saddleback Leather.
I and am very happy I purchased the iPad Air case, but I had to make some adjustments to make the case work for me. I applied a leather softener, and applied gum tragacanth to make smooth tight edges and broke down the internal stiffeners built into the straps. Now I have a softer, smooth edged, tightly closing, iPad Air cover
I had previously purchased the smart cover from Apple for my iPad Air, but was never very enthusiastic about it. Given that I already have, and love, multiple Saddleback purchases, I checked out their iPad Air case. Surprisingly, there were multiple reviews from people less than enthusiastic about their case. I was on the fence for a while, but found a beautiful tobacco one in Dave's deals that I couldn't pass up.
Long story short, it's an outstanding case. I don't know what other reviewers were expecting, but I expected a high-quality, beautiful leather case that protects my iPad. That's what I got, and I couldn't be happier. Saddleback never disappoints, and this is one more product I'm proud to own.
Despite the lower rating by the community, I gave this case a shot as I have recently purchased the iPad Air. I've loved all of my Saddelback products in the past, and this isn't any different. I don't know if mine is an updated version of this case, but I did not have any of the problems people mentioned in earlier reviews. My case fit perfectly snug, looks incredible, and holds together nicely. It is secured tightly when it's closed, and held open with ease when you flips the leather strips the other way to make it into a stand. The hand hold has molded itself to my large hands (at first it was a tight fit, but quality leather always takes care of that) and I've been getting compliments on it from all my friends and coworkers. If this case is in your budget, it's worth the purchase. I've never been more satisfied by an electronics case.
This is probably still the best leather case without a keyboard you can buy for the money. The leather is still exceptional and beautiful with quality beyond belief. However, it's just not as functional as the original. After using the iPad Air Case for the weekend the most annoying part is the charger location access, getting it in is okay, but out is tough. Also, it does not quiet close as tight. The original had softer leather straps and two stitched holders on the back. Leaves the cover loose compared to the original. Saddleback says this was done to make the case stand better, but the original stood just fine. The little stringy keeper thing? Well its different that's for sure. Not having the protection on the sides is difficult to get over also, but Apple is probably more at fault than Dave. There just isn't enough meat on the sides of the iPad Air to have the leather work in this area. Overall, it was scary to purchase, but glad I did. Would I hope they make an updated version with everyone's notes, you bet. As always, the quality of the leather alone makes having one a must!
I just have to say, I love my new iPad case! I chose the carbon color and couldn't be more pleased. It is a nice shade of grey/black with an almost satin like finish when it catches the light. Holding my iPad is now a pleasure due to the grippy inviting texture of this leather case. If you can resist caressing it just a bit you have more restraint than most. I have also found carrying my iPad closed in the case from place to place the straps seem to form perfect grips. When it comes to the open edge design (vs. the old style) I think it is perfect to show off the edges and color of your iPad Air (mine is space grey/black). The level of protection still seems more than adequate, the controls are easy to access and the camera and mic holes on mine line up perfectly. Actually using the iPad is great too, the angles for viewing and typing are infinitely adjustable and I also find that I like using my iPad in portrait mode a bit more than I used to, especially reading in iBooks, now it's like I'm really reading a fine leather bound book. When I ordered the carbon color the thing that made me the most nervous was the apparently pink (on the website photo) pigskin lining. Well, upon its arrival I was happy to find that it was much more of a tan color than it appeared and the texture is quite nice as well. I also was not sure if I would like the 'bookmark' closure but it is nice and soft, adds just a bit of character and I like it just fine. As for the competition, my wife's "leather" iPad II cover from a different company seems to only be leather on the outside cover. The inside trim and frame are definitely vinyl and are cracking and looking crappy after a year and the part that is leather doesn't have the enjoyable texture or grip of the Saddleback case. Another case I saw online for a similar price to this case was just made from bonded leather (scrap composite) So don't get fooled by a second rate cover! I've had lots of other cases for my older iPad and had never really been very pleased with any of them before, but this case is great. My advice to you is to get this case!
I got the one in Tobacco and I loved it, but the holes for the mic and camera didn't line up and that bugged me so much. I later had to cut into it so I could see out. I also can't get to the switch on the side either. I would want a newly designed case for paying as much as I did.
The truth is, I was expecting to hate this case. I have the ipad 2,3,4 case and LOVE it. Having seen bad reviews on the air case, I wanted to see for myself. The 2,3,4 case is stellar and just works. The air case lacks the sides which I really wish it had but even with the absense of that I still love this case. Dave's Deals at 25% off and can't even tell what's wrong with it. Still wish it had the side protection but that's not stopping me from using the crap out of this case. I love it! And that's the truth! :)
I never write reviews for things, but was so impressed by the quality of the case that I couldn't wait to brag on it. Smells wonderful, supposed to have blemishes (has none that I can see, but I do wear glasses), and fits my iPad perfectly! And can you say "sturdy"? Pleasantly surprised to find out that if I drop my iPad it will not only survive but have no evidence of a fall. Altogether, great craftsmanship and will definitely be a future Saddleback customer/recommender to anyone that will listen. And there may be death resulting when I die for the ownership....
I just received my iPad Air Coffee Brown case in the mail and I am absolutely blown away! I ordered my case on Thursday and received it on a Monday, paying only for the basic shipping and handling. USPS delivered despite 6-8 inches of snow in my area.
Out of the box, the case is absolutely incredible! One can truly see that this is a labor of love. I've ordered Saddleback products for my iPad 2 and iPhone in the past. But, given the Air's size and weight, I (mistakenly) opted for a Dodo Case. After using that case for three months, I kicked myself in the arse and returned "home" and bought the Saddleback case my Air was intended to have from the beginning.
I was concerned with the added heft the quality leather all Saddleback products are known for would add, but found them to be unfounded. A side-by-side comparison showed the height of the Saddleback case to be the same as the Dodo Case. The Saddleback case outweighs the Dodo Case by about 12.5 oz, but, that doesn't impact the case-carrying experience much.
What turned me off about the Dodo Case was the shabby protection it offered. I am very careful with my iDevices but after accidentally dropping the Air twice from normal height, the impact on the Dodo Case was noticeable (cracks on the bamboo frame and dents on the exterior cover). Additionally, despite my reaching out to the Dodo Case staff via email, Facebook and leaving numerous voicemails for two months, they have not replied. For the amount of money I paid, I was expecting some respect and support. Comparatively, the Saddleback support has always been top-notch. The staff even provided great support for a product I bought after a year of use (iPad 2)!
Despite having supported Saddleback for several years, I had a minor lapse in judgment and regrettably tested the waters with another company. However, I've learned my lesson and I'm glad to say that I'm back and will never stray from the Saddleback line of products for any of my current and future iDevices. My iPad Air case is money very well-spent!
I have the original iPad case I used for my iPad w/retina and love that case/cover. I love the smell and feel of it, it looks awesome and was my favorite of covers. After first seeing the new cover for the iPad Air I was disappointed. I was hoping for almost the same thing or bloody similar to the case I love so much. And it appears many other reviewers feel this same way. I pondered over this new cover for my Air for awhile and finally broke down and bought it. I think it should be cheaper than the original iPad cover because it doesn't have the same amount of leather protection and the spine doesn't feel reinforced at all. But once I got my Air inside the case I was happy with it. I don't love it like I did the original but I do like it and enjoy having that soothing feel and smell of leather. I'd like to see Saddleback make a second air cover that looks just like the original iPad cover so the consumer has a choice. After all, for many of us, me included what brought us to Saddleback Leather was the search for a top notch iPad cover and only after finding that did we discover the other great things we could get. Please change it. Its okay but not what the old one is.
Just got my new iPad Air case in Dark Coffee Brown. This case looks even better in person than it does in the pictures. I looked everywhere for a new case that looked professional and offered good protection for my new iPad. This is the one to buy! None of the others out there even come close. I have only had this for a couple of days and have had several people compliment it. It is a little pricey but worth every penny
Having purchased several Saddleback Leather products - Large Classic Briefcase, Large Thin Briefcase, Leather Wallet and iPad cover - I was excited to get the iPad Air Cover. I must be addicted to Saddleback Leather as I love the look, feel and smell of the leather. All the products are made with tough, thick leather that I look forward to breaking in.
I bought the Dark Coffee Brown iPad Air cover. The cover itself is well-made, with the usual nice, thick leather. Initially and for a slight change, I had bought the Logitech Folio but returned it after 1 day as I didn't think it was as solidly made as Saddleback's cover.
Why 3.5 and not 5 stars? My only wish is that the cover would be similar in design to the prior iPad case design. The iPad Air covers only the top and bottom edges of the iPad. Prior designs covered the outside edges, making the iPad only removable from the inside cover. That feature really encased the iPad and gave it that solid feel. Nevertheless, I have full assurance that if I drop or toss my iPad when in it is closed and fastened, it will be well protected - not so much so if I drop it when it is opened. Additionally, the top tether tie is okay and will likely do its job if you tie it securely.
For the inside, I am not a fan of the natural pigskin. Yes it is softer and less "plasticky," but I think it may get stained if I accidentally spill something on or around the cover and cannot wipe it off as easily.
Would I still get the cover? Of course, given that it is likely better than any other cover out there without a keyboard.
As with all Saddleback products, this case absolutely exceeds expectations. I am unsure what some of the complaints are about as this beautifully designed piece of artwork holds and protects my iPad Air perfectly. I had the Apple magic cover, and kicked it to the curb when this arrived. Needless to say, I am very impressed.
I currently have an iPad 3 and have a saddleback case for it. I absolutely love it as does everyone who sees it. So when I ordered the new iPad air I looked no further than your website for a case for my air. I must say I was very disappointed in the new case design you have for the air. You missed the mark on this, it is not a very protective case and to be honest it looks awful compared to my current case. The leather strap is a poor design and actually looks like an afterthought. The reason people buy your cases is for the durability, protection and the beautiful design and this new case does not offer any of those. Please let me know when you redesign it and I will consider purchasing one then... I recommend the case for the older iPads but definitely not the new air case....
I have been eyeing products from SBL for a long time. To tell the truth I probably bought my iPad just so I could order the case. I love it. It comes exactly as described. So if you don't like what the description says, don't order. You're not being misled.
Paving dabbled in leather works myself. I could immediately see the quality of the leather and construction.
This is just my first order in what I'm afraid will become a leather addiction.
Have tried using case like this design. Loose the feel of the ipad while being held Prisioner in the case. Even out of the case the old ipad seemed heavy after just a short time. A better solution for the ipad air is the old case design made smaller.
I like the looks of the air case but the finger sleeve is way to small. I have small hands & it is simply very uncomfortable to hold. The leather seems to be of high quality and is very good looking. Very stiff but think it will soften over time.
I am so ambivalent about this case, and want to love it as much as I do my iPad 1 case, but I can't. I have had my case now for about three weeks, and while I am adjusting to it, my list of adjustments is long. Starting from the left: it is difficult to pull the power cord out because the case is very stiff in the place where I need to grab the adaptor; the two pieces that hold the iPad in are a little too wide and make it difficult to operate on-screen controls; the mute button is partially covered; the on/off button is hard to press because it is partially covered; and the strap that holds the iPad in is an inelegant solution that leaves a knot sticking out the back. And finally we come to the leather itself: I don't mind the stiffness, but I'm not a big fan of the choice of finish. Count me amongst those who prefer more of a finished appearance.
So will I return it? I'm ambivalent. What I would really like to see is a redesign and then an offer from Saddleback (a company I have immense respect for) to exchange the cases of customers who are as ambivalent as me.
Just got my ipad air case in carbon black today
It just oozes quality.
Makes picking up my ipad air a joy and I know it will improve with age as did my ipad 2 case
And the girls at service are exceptional
