Awesome every time I use my I pad is a treat I have had for one year and is great protection with style. It is heavy though as expected .
So i still use my Ipad 2 daily and this is a GREAT case! The case is a tank and I feel confident that my Ipad is well protected. The 2 straps that wrap around to make a stand works well albeit makes the viewing angle a little too "upright". The chestnut coloring really is attractive. Like most things Saddleback, it was a little snug to use at first but has broken in quickly. Get rid of your ugly case and buy this one!
I have many saddleback pieces from the classic briefcase large to cable bags etc.... I got the iPad case on daves deals I have yet to find the flaw it is exquisite perfect the fit is great it protects like no other and first day everybody on my job site wants it. It is a great piece. Protect your investment with saddleback you will not be sorry. The Dark coffee brown well did I mention perfect still can't see the flaw.
I like things that are genuine, that being said I'm not wealthy so I like a good deal to! I got this case from the "Dave's Deals" section of the website. This iPad case is really just beautiful, it arrived in the mail about a hour ago and I'm compelled to right a reveiew of it to let others know that there really is such a thing as craftsmanship, but then you know that or you wouldn't be looking here. . As far as this being a second or flawed in some way, well I can't see it, the color is rich and even, the grain is very nice with great feel, and did I mention that it smells wonderful! The only thing I really hate about it is the fact that now I can't get a iPad pro because I love this case so much!
I had to contact customer service because I gave them the wrong email with my order, within 15mins I had a reply and this was at 2am! So huge fist bump to CS. Over all great service and great product. I'm sure I'll be a return customer. Thanks Dave!
I knew there had to be a leather Ipad case out there somewhere and I found it! I just got it today and it is beautiful! I got it in chestnut. The smell is absolutely incredible!!!!!!!!! I am thrilled that I found this. This case is one beautiful piece of workmanship!
I bought this in chestnut off Dave's Deals, 25% discount. There are some wrinkles in the leather, but, to be honest, I think it adds to the rustic appearance. It's a Valentine's Day gift for my wife, and I think she'll like it.
It smells amazing. The physical protection is perfect. The case can be situated to make the ipad stand on its own for hands-free viewing. The pig skin lining keeps it rigid. Good Lord, you should smell this thing.
No pockets. Her old, cheap case had pockets on the interior for paper, pens, etc. This is a straight ipad case. Nothing else. I will say this: Dave never said there would be pockets, so I don't hold it against him. Regardless, it is something to consider before you make the purchase.
EXTREMELY hard to fit the ipad into the case. Once it's in, it's even harder to get out. HOWEVER, this might also be a positive, because the leather tends to stretch with use. Since the leather is extra extra extra tight, it might not be an issue.
That's just it; the case is beautiful. The stitching is gorgeous. The straps are a work of art. The dark chestnut leather compliments the silver ipad. I'm always shocked with Saddleback's quality. If I could go back in time, I would make this purchase again. Beautiful.
THINGS TO CONSIDER:
I already talked about the pockets. I'm not sure why, but the pigskin in chestnut is different from the pigskin in tobacco. I bought a medium front pocket backpack in tobacco a couple months ago (which, by the way, I am extremely proud of), and the pigskin lining is very supple and soft to the touch. In chestnut, it is much more rigid. It almost has a plastic feel, This is neither a pro nor a con. It is merely something to consider.
I bought this case in August 2014 for an older iPad even though it won't fit future generations of the device that are already on the market. Seemed silly to me at first because obviously this case will far outlive any device it is made for, and at first I also thought it was ridiculously thick and that it overwhelmed the iPad. Eventually I justified the purchase because I love Saddleback products, and because it was by far the best built, best looking, and most protective case I had seen at that price point. 5 months later, and I'm still very happy with this case! It looks great, will only keep looking better, and I don't need to worry about damage from accidental drops. When this device finally dies I will be using my case as a very beautiful, very unique stand up photo frame.
This was my first SBL purchase, about 3 years ago. I bought it in chestnut and it gets better and better looking every time I pick it up. It's covered in scratches but somehow brings out more character. My only dislike: I love this case so much, I can't justify upgrading to a new iPad. Saddleback has cases for the new iPads but this case is too good looking to take out of my every day carry.
- Sent from my SBL enclosed iPad.
Buy nice and never buy again
Let me first say that I am addicted to Saddleback Leather. I have a medium briefcase, a large and small satchel, Mac air sleeve, and have purchased 4 belts and various wallets for myself and loved ones. I have now purchased two iPad cases. The first was for an iPad original, the second for the iPad with a retina display. I would upgrade to an iPad Air, but cannot see buying a third case. I would suggest that buyers think about purchasing a sleeve, as Apple continues to change device dimensions and buttons just enough to make your case purchase antiquated. That being said, if you purchase the case, you will love it!
Why? I ask myself did I wait so long to place this order. After all I dreamed of this Ipad case (and other items on this site) for many a day. But tried to persuade myself that other mere mortals would suffice, but non would stand up to the one I had placed on the golden pedestal. Then this morning IT arrived by winged chariot disguised in a brown box and a whited van and carried by a meek little man. However when I opened said box the heavenly aroma hit me and here I sit stroking the well crafted leather remembering my earlier years, as a young girl and the saddles I sat on. I ask myself what the heck was I doing wasting all that money on shoddy stuff before when I should have just come straight here? Can't wait for next purchase now what shall I get? Always like the film Annie Get Your Gun............
Thanks foe the great leather case you made, best leather I ever seen ,love the smell and looks vintage, very recommend !!!! Only downside is a hight price for delivery and border pay in EU,in total was a full price of a item, but still worse it! Thanks
I had my iPad in an otter box case and while I felt it was protected I hated the fact that it was so bulky and heavy...I stumbled upon this site a few weeks ago and decided I would invest in one of these cases. I purchased the tobacco case and from the time I opened the box I have not been disappointed...I feel my iPad is safe and very well protected and I love the look and feel of the case....Im waiting now on the satchel bag to be released in tobacco....Im a NEW customer for life....
All the gear all the time works for riding motorcycles. This case works the same for my iPad as my leathers work for me. I'm not easy on gear and the standard iPad covers just didn't seem to be me resistant. The Saddleback case is.
The sewn leather edges provide impact protection for edge drops and the thick leather protects when dropped flat or wedged into a bag. The straps keep the iPad in the case when closed and give you a stand that works equally as well on the seat back tray on a flight or at the bar.
I use my iPad as a translator while traveling and the Saddleback case is a good icebreaker when meeting new people. Good leather seems to be appreciated no matter where you go.
There is some slip when the case is open as there is nothing other than gravity and friction holding the iPad into the case. Not a big deal as long as you orient the case correctly. The one hundred year warranty is ok, but Apple won't promise to keep building devices that will fit for that many years. I suppose it will be a great looking picture frame when the iPad 17 comes out.
Just recently picked up a iPad case in chestnut so it now has it's passport for travelling!! Like to take my iPad with me on trips so it will now travel protected and in style. This is "hands down" the best case I have seen for the iPad and I have had a few. Provides great protection, comfortable to hold and looks amazing.
Once again another AWESOME Saddleback product
First the pros:
It is very well made. A work of art in today's mass produced world. I don't see wearing out or the case coming apart in my lifetime.
Highly protective. Ipad should survive anything but a direct nuclear strike or dropping into a lake. Probably the most protective case short of the survivor cases, but they really impact usability of the ipad, which this case does not.
Looks great. Smells great. I get compliments on it frequently.
Able to access all the ipad controls, speaker, camera, etc. It does not come between you and using your ipad.
Now the cons:
It's heavy. Will add a pound to your ipad.
It's thick. Basically triples the thickness of your ipad.
Now, I could live with those two cons, for that is what gives the case it's protective qualities, which I sorely need being an inveterate dropper of all things electronic.
But these next cons really irk me...
It's uncomfortable to hold in a reading position. Really uncomfortable. When you are holding the ipad to read, the right edge is very thick and sharp to hold. Not well suited for holding at all. Surely some way could have been made to soften this edge, maybe rolling the top layer of leather over the edge to make a round soft edge instead of the sharp hard edge it now has. It's so uncomfortable that I sometimes remove the ipad from the case, which negates the protective qualities. You cannot comfortably hold your ipad with your right hand. Horrible design. This may be the reason I quit using this case. I might try covering the edge with something like moleskin and see if that helps.
I hate the closure. The four loops on the back means you can't lay the ipad flat on a surface, it will always be at an angle. If the receiver tabs could have been on the top cover and the straps come off the back, then at least it would lay flat. I like taking notes, and the angle and wobbling you get from having the receiving tabs on the back is quite annoying. A bad design choice. Switch them round, please....
Even with this, it is the best case I've had so far. By far. No one even close. With a couple of changes it would be the perfect case. Soften the edge, and flip the straps...
Best iPad case ever! I love the design, the tobacco leather and the rugged look of this case. It will most definitely outlive the iPad.
My only complaint is that the leather straps have softened up so much that the case doesn't stay propped open when it's in the lap position. This is really just a minor issue as it is not a problem to stuff something in between the folded over front and back of the case. I am currently using a small juggling ball for this purpose However, it would be great if Saddleback made something that I could put there that would go with the leather and design of the case. My green, yellow, red and blue juggling ball just doesn't go well with the rugged look of the case.
Great product and I highly recommend.
I have one of these cases for my iPad 3. Just got an iPad Air and while it fits in the case, the case is too big. I'm using my Air in the old case until SBL releases a new case.
Come on Dave, release a new case and make some money!
I love the case. I used it on my Ipad for several years It is just what I want and it fits my style, however, I use the IPad for work and type a lot. These cases have no integrated keyboard. I solved this with my SB case by velcroing a keyboard to the cover and propping the screen with various objects. Although it worked great, I am at a loss with the IPad Air. Please look into a keyboard model.
I've had this case for (3) years and besides being fantastic, it receives a TON of compliments. I was shocked to find out that there's no case for the iPad Air, and I'm DEEPLY saddened by that fact - so much so that I'm considering a hunger strike until one is produced! PLEASE Dave, I needs me a new case!!!!!
Have the old, iPad 4 case for few years. I agree with the rest of the comments that it is the best. Now, I have iPad air but no case.
I have this case for my mini and absolutely love it. I just bought an IPad Air and would sincerely love to have one wrapped around it.
I purchased a Saddleback case for my iPad 3. By far it is the best case on the market. Its ability to protect the iPad is far superior to anything else available. Waiting patiently for Dave to develop an iPad case for the iPad Air:) Come on Dave, hook us up!:)
I love my ipad case and have received lots of compliments! I am eagerly awaiting the release of the ipad air case so that I can feel "safe" using my new ipad! I really hope it will be released before Christmas!! Thanks again for an amazing product! Keep up the good work!
Hands down, THE best iPad case EVER !!!
The leather is aging awesomely.....
Wating patiently for the iPad Air case !
