Excellent in every respect

by

Just like the iPad Air case but smaller to accommodate the Mini with retina display. A perfect fit and very functional. The leather with natural markings is just gorgeous and the overall quality is over the top. As with the Air case, continued handling and everyday use will soften the leather, make it pliable, and very adaptive to the iPad mini. But make no mistake, this thing is ready to go from day one and will only get better with time. Without reservation do I recommend this addition to the SBL line.

Great case and another fine SBL product

by

I originally got the original ipad mini case for my retina ipad mini. Saddleback pretty much nailed it with the retina edition. The wife took over the original case for her mini. One thing I have noticed about every SBL product is the break in period is unique. Never expect the next piece of leather to be the same. This is my first tobacco piece and my only complaint is the pictures online do not do it justice. I have been a DCB fan from day one, but this tobacco case is pretty awesome. I do like the more rigid insert for the flap. The original ipad cases were prone to going flat after they broke in. The reinforcement is a practical improvement to the design. I wish the hand holder was a bit more roomy, but hopefully it will break in nicely. As always, A+

Excellent

The iPad mini fits well in this case. The front of the case is reinforced with a strip that makes it fairly rigid. Screen is not inhibited by the case at all. Looking forward to seeing how this breaks in over time. Got the Carbon Black one and it looks amazing.

An awesome piece of leather

by

I bought the Saddleback iPad case way back when I bought a new iPad 2. It was my first piece of SB leather and I've been back for a wallet and 2 journal covers since. Now for this iPad Mini Retina Case.

The leather is simply first rate. As soon as you pick it up you know it's the kind of leather that will only get better with age. It's a simple and straight forward case. No fancy magnets, buttons, zippers or other fluff. The tobacco color has a very nice natural and rugged feel to it.

It's not cheap, but I won't be replacing this ever. Only problem with these great cases is when Apple changes the size of their iPad and mine becomes obsolete, my well-worn case will no longer be needed.

Nothing Like Saddleback

by

I bought the iPad Mini Retina Case a week after my first Saddleback purchase (Moleskine cover). My wife asked me what I wanted for Christmas and this is what she got me. I've had three generations of iPads and just about every cover imaginable, and this Saddleback case is the most beautiful. I got the iPad case in Tobacco, which looks even better in person than on the website. The pictures of the tobacco doesn't do it justice.

Thanks Saddleback for making great products. I will keep coming back for more.

Excellent case

by

I just recieved my case today. It is without a shadow of a doubt the best case I have owned. I have had 3 different tablets and and 3 different cases. This is the most professional and the most personal case I have had. Professional in the look and high quality leather and personal with the smell that it gives off combined with the feel of the top grain leather. I doubt I will ever have another brand of case again.

Fits iPad mini 3 perfectly

by

Just received my Saddleback case for my iPad mini 3. It has an even more quality look than I had hoped. Shopping online I wasn't positive how well it would fit the 3 but it fits very snugly and does not obscure any of the screen. My one question, not a concern, is how long it takes for it to limber up. Most quality leather like this does limber up a great deal, which I would prefer. Just wondering if anyone can tell me how long it takes to really get it broken in, and if there's anything I should do to help with this.

Also, I'm not quite sure what the strap of leather that appears to be a bookmark is for... anyone able to help with that?

iPad Mini Retina Case

by -

I purchased the iPad Mini Retina case, and I am head over heels with it! It fits the mini with Retina display like a glove, the screen isn't obstructed at all, and unlike most cases that take away the beauty from Apple products because they are either to bulky or just plain ugly. This case enhances the beauty of an iPad and allows the owner to feel safe in case of accidental drop. The chestnut on a black iPad looks stunning, and I would recommend this case bar none!

The only thing that I find awkward, is that pouch in the inside where your supposed to put your hand in. I don't see my self ever using that feature. If someone can explain to me how they use it I might change my mind.

iPad mini retina case

Another item to the list. I was a Samsung guy now I'm an IPad mini 3 kind of guy because of this case. Fits great, no screen blocking, 100 percent access. Did I say it feels great!!! Need I say more...

Nailed the Retina Case Design

by -

This is the second case I've purchased from SaddleBack Leather, and I couldn't be more pleased with this design. The iPad mini fits snugly as others have reported, and without any screen clipping. The borders are cut perfectly, to leave the screen, buttons and ports fully exposed with solid all around protection. I purchased mine in tobacco brown, and the coloring is beautiful. The natural markings and scars in the leather make it a very unique piece to look at. And is always with it's intoxicating aroma.

Out of the package the leather was rather stiff, and didn't want to stay neatly folded open. A little breaking in is all that was in order. I used a table vice, and weights over two days to get the desired "stretch" over the folding joints of the case's spine, and the thick closing strap. It broke in very quickly, and it'll only get better with age and use. Saddleback, props for very clean, rugged design. You nailed it.

A+ product and A+ customer service; thanks Saddleback!

I've been using this case with my iPad Mini 3 for about 3 weeks now, and it's already shaped up to be the best tablet case I've seen! My chestnut case is not only beautiful, it's very functional as well.

My favorite thing about the case is its functionality and easy of use on a flat surface -- with the case open the strap can be quickly adjusted in the 'butterfly' clasp to firmly hold the case open and the iPad screen at any viewing angle from vertical (90 degrees) to as low as 35 or 40 degrees. This is really the best part -- there are no notches or preset viewing angles like with other cases, so you can actually set it at any angle you want and it will hold fast! You simply open the cover and hold the case at the angle you want, but the strap through the butterfly, pull the strap to secure it at that angle, and set it down on the table or on your lap!

The iPad Mini is well protected in the case, and inserting the device was very easy. I did a few 'drop' tests to see if the iPad would be held securely, and I did notice that when I dropped the case on the ground bottom-up (with the opening for the iPad facing the ground) the iPad would slide up a bit too far and be exposed above the edges of the leather case. To fix this, I tightened the leather bookmark (the little strip of leather that keeps the iPad from falling out of the top) so that it would be sure to hold the iPad below the edge of the case and keep it fully protected. The case itself is very sturdy and will keep the iPad protected.

At first I wasn't sure about the functionality of the hand strap on the inside of the cover, but after requesting more information from customer service (who responded promptly, recommended different ways to try it, and offered to refund the purchase if I was dissatisfied!) I am now confident in the hand strap's ability to keep the iPad securely attached to my hand if I were to accidentally let go :) I've tested this a few times and am impressed that the iPad doesn't slip away from my fingers tucked in the strap.

Additionally, the camera hole in the back of the case is positioned so that it will never obscure the camera's view.

One more thing -- the chestnut case comes with a very nice darker pigskin color that isn't shown in the pictures! It fits perfectly with the chestnut leather and looks much better than the grey/brown color shown in the pictures. The color of the pigskin looks just like the dark pigskin color shown with the chestnut iPad Mini (non-retina) Saddleback case, so check that out to see if you'd like it (as long as they don't take those pictures down).

Overall, I'm extremely happy with the quality of the case and happy with Saddleback's service. I just hope Apple decides they don't want to change the size of their future iPad Minis so that I can keep using this case forever :)

Makes me LOVE my iPad!

by -

I absolutely love this case. The leather smells amazing, it's buttery soft, and it gives my Ipad a great look. I admit I haven't been using my iPad as much over the last few months due to upgrading my phone, and my phone being able to do just about the same as the iPad. The bulky (and ugly) case that was previously on my iPad didn't help either. But soon as this beauty came in the mail I was in love! I use it now just to feel the case lol.

Beautiful leather quality,but!!!

by -

I was so excited waiting for my case! When I opened the box where it came got even happier when I saw my case!!

But when i tried to put my iPad mini in the case, I had a really hard time doing it!! Because the leather was so stiffed.

I almost thought I bought the wrong one. And I also thought I was going to break my iPad trying to get in the case. Until I finally got it in, I wasn't able to place my finger since my iPad is id touch. I had to push my iPad in order for the Touch ID button is free so I can place any of my finger there. I was a little disappointed, I hope that with time and stretch will get better.

iPad Mini 4 Fits Fine

by -

First off, realize that this, like all Saddleback products, requires breaking in. Possibly even more so, with this case. I left mine folded open with a heavy box on top of it for three overnights and still needed a bit of extra handling. In fact, it was difficult to type on it for the first several days, because it would keep jumping away from my fingers holding it folded open. It's built for the long haul, though, which, honestly, makes buying it for electronics something of a luxury.

Now, though, it's fantastic. I have to deal with electronic devices day in and day out as part of my line of work. Wrapping them in quality leather softens that edge and makes it more bearable. The fingers sleeve (which also requires breaking in to fit comfortably) is useful, the look is remarkable, and the scent of leather is intoxicating. Mine is Tobacco, to match my other pieces, and I love it!

This case is built for an iPad Mini 2, but my iPad Mini 4 fits quite nicely. (They differ in bare fractions of an inch.) The only issue is that the "ambient light sensors" - the things that allow the iPad to automatically adjust its screen brightness based upon how dark or bright it is - moved. On the iPad Mini 2/3, they're right next to the camera on the center front. On the 4, there are now two of them, and they are closer to the top corners.

If you want tot use this with a iPad Mini 4, You'll either have to deal with the loss of auto-brightness (which is not too bad: the brightness settings are directly under the "General" section where you start in Settings) or be willing to cut holes in your expensive, beautiful leather case. If you choose to take the latter route - and either know what you're doing or are willing to live with the consequences (or both, really) - then the diagrams for exactly where the ALS's are can be found on Apple's website: https://developer.apple.com/resources/cases/Case-Design-Guidelines.pdf#page35

This case is fantastic. You will be pleased.

Love the iPad Mini 2 Case,

by -

I was bequeathed an iPad by my loving family for my birthday, and my search for an applicable case began. I'm a big Otterbox fan, but I wanted something classier for this device. My search began and ended with Saddleback.

This company's products are top-notch and I'm looking forward to the classic, old-world style weathering that comes with well-crafted leather goods.

Story

A few years back, Suzette and I hiked up to the head of a lake, hopped into a canoe and paddled our way as close as we could to the massive glacier coming down the mountain. It was more than inspiring and a great way to celebrate our 3rd anniversary.

So when we got back to the little Alaskan town, we decided to do a little shopping in the shops along their cool little boardwalk. One of the first shops we walked into was my favorite kind. It was full of locally handmade things. And that’s where I saw it. A clutch purse with a hand strap on one side. I picked it up and immediately called Suzette over. I didn’t know what I would ever use this idea for, but I knew I just had to use it somehow. To not would be to deprive the world of joy. Little did I know what Apple had planned, but sure enough, it couldn’t have been used on a better design. I think you’re really going to like this hand strap.
