There seems to be some dislike of the MacBookPro sleeve specific to the fit. Some saying its to lose. It discouraged me from purchasing. But I went ahead anyway. I have zero issue with the fit. In fact its stung as a bug even after a few months of use. I think perhaps there was a design change and then it changed back to the center stitch version <which I have>. Its perfect fit. Thanks Dave!

I ordered this sleeve for a MBP 15 and it was quite snug at first. Initially I had to grab the sleeve on the bottom seam and gently shake my laptop out. Six months later the sleeve has loosened up to the point that I can pull out the laptop from out of the sleeve. It protects very well and far better than other sleeves I had used before. I would recommend this product without reservation!
I bought the medium size in black..... LOVE IT!!!! see my other reviews of how great these products are: I've bought the notebook holder, big wallet, front pocket briefcase, front pocket backpack, & macpro sleeve cover ALL in black..... I'm a fan & now life long buyer of Saddleback Leather Co. products!!!
I got this on the 25% off Dave's Deal and I can't find a thing wrong with it. Some of the other reviews say it's too loose, I don't know if there is some variance in how they are made but mine is perfectly snug with my 15" Retina MacBook Pro. Doesn't fall out if I turn it upside down or anything, but not hard to remove either. I actually like this design with the seam on the bottom instead of the sides too, it'll add some impact protection to the bottom if I were to drop it. Fits perfect inside the large briefcase. I wasn't going to buy it because my laptop won't last nearly as long as it, but with the deal I went for it and I'm glad I did. You can always use it to hold papers or files inside the briefcase once your laptop is long gone...
I have a 13 inch Mac Book Pro w/Retina display. I purchased this cover/sleeve in tobacco and it looks and feels great. The design is simple but effective. The stitching at the bottom serves as bumper that will absorb most drops, bumps and typical everyday abuse that we unknowingly submit our electronics to. The price of the sleeve is very reasonable and considering the cost of my laptop, it seems almost stupid not to protect my investment with a quality product and this sleeve is among the best I've seen. Now I feel I should address the fitment issues other people seem to have. After reading many reviews on how people had a hard time getting their computer in and out of the sleeve makes me think maybe they ordered the wrong size or didn't matchup the right laptop brand with the right sleeve. Yes we all know leather will stretch, warm weather makes the leather more pliable as cold weather keeps the leather stiff and resistant to stretching. Right out of the box, my Mac Book Pro slipped in PERFECTLY. It slid down the first 90% with ease and the last 10% I had to give it a little push, which provides a snug hold. When I removed my laptop, I held the sleeve by the stitching with my left hand and with my right hand I used my thumb and two fingers, grabbed the laptop from the center and pulled it out. It took 4 seconds. Then I like to use the sleeve as a pad to rest my computer on. Normally I would not have gone into such great detail on inserting and removing the computer from the sleeve but so many people had a problem with it I thought I should share my experience on how easy it was for me.
I found this new style laptop sleeve appealing. The sleeve is quite a bit trimmer than the previous sleeve and fits well in my Saddleback Leather satchel.
I see Saddleback Leather is back to black, which is fine, expect my products are all from the carbon era. Also I too find the fit of the sleeve to be loose. I use the sleeve just to protect my laptop in my Saddleback Leather satchel. The sleeve never leaves the satchel, so I am not too worried about the loose fit. In fact I favour the loose fit when accessing my laptop inside my satchel. I wouldn't carry my laptop in this sleeve as a primary case without some kind of strap. The build, fit and finish is what I would expect of Saddleback Leather.
The sales staff were very helpful in trimming down my shipping costs to Canada.
Got the smaller size and my Surface Pro 3 fits like a dream. Has room to leave the stylus attached in the bag. BIG bonus = When I work I sit my opened Surface keyboard on the bag with the screen and stand just off the bag. This leaves enough of the bag exposed in front of the keyboard to serve as a wrist pad. An AWESOME rugged leather wrist pad that is not only comfortable, but also closes Million Dollar deals in it's sleep. Thanks Dave! Yes THAT one.
I actually bought this sleeve for my non-retina MacBook Pro (not recommended) and when I first tried to slip my laptop into the sleeve, it was beyond tight. And I mean so tight that it took minutes to shove the thing in there, and minutes to slowly inch it out. Luckily I was patient enough to stretch the leather out so that it fit my thicker laptop. I covered the edges of my MacBook with a thin sheet of cardboard and then forced it into the case. I left it in the case for 2 days to let it stretch, and then spent a good hour and a half using all my strength to pull the thing out of the case. Long story short, it worked. The case is gorgeous and very professional looking. It fits my non-retina MacBook Pro perfectly now - but I would strongly recommend not buying this sleeve for your non-retina MacBook Pro unless you are willing to be incredibly patient with the stretching process. All in all though, this is an awesome case that will without a doubt outlive your MacBook Pro by at least 80 years...
I have been meaning to purchase this sleeve to put in my Classic Briefcase. I purchased the sleeve in tobacco and was looking forward to receiving it. When it arrived I slid my 15" MacBook Pro Retina inside and freaked when I thought I would never get the thing out. Finally, I managed to slide the laptop out and just didn't feel comfortable battling to get my laptop our of the sleeve. I tried a couple more times and became more disappointed with each attempt.
Having owned and loved other products from Saddleback, I decided to give it a couple of days. I let the laptop sit overnight with the laptop inside to see if it would stretch a bit. Before leaving for work the next day, I tried getting the laptop out again. I grabbed the bottom of the sleeve with my right hand and and pulled on the laptop with my left (there is enough material at the bottom to grab on to). It was no where near as difficult as it was the previous day and slid out on the first try.
Needless to say, Im keeping the heck out of this thing. The sleeve looks fantastic. Very rustic with beautiful coloration. The leather feels great and of course, it will only get softer and better looking over time. If it only took 24 hours to loosen a bit, I anticipate that it will only get easier as time goes by.
So, don't panic if you feel that this sleeve is too tight. Give it a couple of days and try removing your laptop in the manner I mentioned. Thanks Saddleback!
I am writing this review after owning the sleeve for over 4 years. I bought it for my big MacBook(2010) version and have not only used it to carry the laptop around but have occasionally used it for carrying magazines, large documents and kids books while traveling. After four years of usage, it still looks, smells and feels new. It can still snugly hold the laptop and will definitely outlast the computer. There aren't a whole lot of uses for this product outside holding computers that fit in it. If you are looking for a more versatility then the laptop cases might be better. But if you are looking for something simple, functional and elegant then you have to get this.
This is simply a beautiful case. I suppose it's subjective, looking at the reviews. It's simple, it has no complicated fasteners or design, and some people don't like the seam on the bottom. I think it looks great inside my messenger, along with my medium notepad. While it's not exactly a drop case, it does keep the MacBook from mixing with some of the other loose items in the bag. The other reviews are correct: it is not a snug fit, and it will fall out if you hold it upside down. Don't do that. I suppose that makes it more of a slipcover than a case. But like I said, it protects the laptop from scrapes and scratches while it's traveling in a larger case, which is why I picked it up. That, and it looks incredible.
Picked up a chestnut one on a 25% Dave's Deal. I don't see them on there often, so I jumped at the chance after I picked up a new MacBook Pro. I cannot find the flaw! Dave's Deals are a great way of stepping outside of your comfort zone in terms of colors. I started off with all tobacco brown, but some deals popped up with items I wanted but were in DCB or chestnut, and I have to say all Saddleback colors are excellent, and they stand out even more when you mix and match. There's something so pleasing about the tobacco messenger with the DCB notepad and chestnut laptop case, and I imagine that similar combinations would be just as nice.
This product is everything I expected. Great protection for my 13 inch Mac Pro with retina. Not sure what the "old" model looked like but this one is very sharp. Yes- if you turn it upside down the the computer may fall out. Not an issue for me. It is also the perfect size to carry files in. Thinking of buying another one just for that purpose.
I own quite a few Saddleback Leather products and love them all. I recently upgraded my MacBook Air (for which I had a SBL sleeve). I purchased this sleeve in the small size for my new MBP Retina 13". After reading the reviews here I wasn't sure how the sleeve would fit. When it arrived, I opened the package and inhaled looking for that great leather smell. Boy was I surprised! All I smelled was a very strong solvent smell - no leather smell. Then I put the MacBook in the sleeve. As other reviewers have noted, the sleeve had about .5 inch extra width. However, the sleeve still looks good and fits well in my Medium Round Satchel, so it works fine. In fact I like the way I can get the laptop out pretty easily. I wish the sleeve felt a bit more tailored like the sleeve for the MBA. So I'm deducting 1 star for the nasty smell and less than the fit I've come to expect from SBL.
I have been waiting for a long time for this product to return to production and i have ordered it as soon as i saw it in the site, although it did not seem as beautiful as the previous version. A couple of days after my order the first reviews started coming in and i got worried.
When it finally arrived and opened it I was relieved. My first impression was that the real thing is much more beautiful than the picture. It is bigger than my Macbook Pro retina to the extent that if you flip it over it will fall. However it is excellent to carry around and even better as a protecting cover in my briefcase. In my opinion in the briefcase the disadvantage of sliding free becomes advantage since you can easily take out only the Macbook and not the whole case which i find very functional.
What's not to love? Perfectly simple design, functions perfectly, perfect quality. And let me tell you, when you're sitting around a conference table and everyone else pulls out their weird, filthy neoprene cover that wears its battle scars like ... well ... battle scars, there's no comparison. All eyes on you with your gorgeous, patinated warrior. Your laptop's devoted bodyguard. Also doubles as a heat pad-- the laptop fits perfectly within the raised edges of the case when you set the laptop on top of it. Gorgeous. Worth every penny, it's been within arms reach of me for over a year. Love it.
Been using this sleeve for about two months and just love it. I have the 15 inch version for Retina Display. The fit was originally very tight to the point of having difficulty removing my MacBook, but after “breaking it in” for a few days it now fits securely with no chance of it sliding out unintentionally. I think the look and feel of this sleeve can’t be matched by any else out there and the quality is first rate. Wouldn’t hesitate to buy it again.
I've very quickly become a SBL fan. When I found out they had a sleeve for the new 15" MacBook Pros, I jumped on it. When I first got the sleeve, I was ecstatic. The sleeve felt lovely to the touch, it smelled great, and seemed like it would be very protective of my Macbook. That was just about the end of the positives I've faced with this sleeve.
I inserted my computer, with more resistance than I would like. Naively, I inserted it the entire way. What ensued was 30 minutes of me struggling to get the computer out, applying a lot more pressure on the computer and its screen with which I'm comfortable. I then tried again, only getting halfway this time, before concluding this just wouldn't work.
The same night, I reached out to SBL, who gave me the usual talking points about this leather being snug and it stretching with time. However, I was simply not comfortable with putting my computer inside at all, and asked the CSR about a return or for tips on how to stretch it.
She said she'd send me an email immediately with some tips, but that email never came. It finally came, after that weekend, when I reached out once again about the same issue and asked them to resend the "tips" because it may have gotten caught up in my junk folder--it didn't. The tip I got from them: put some books or folders in the sleeve, "spritz" it with water, and leave it overnight. Yeah, right.
I ultimately tried a couple more times with my computer, to no avail. I even got somewhat of a rug burn on my right knuckles from trying to get the computer out the sleeve. I put a few books in it, overnight, to no avail. I ended up going to my family's shoemaker. He said he'd try to stretch it but could make no promises.
A week later (this morning), I got my sleeve back, stretched and with a few new creases showing where he put some items in to stretch. I can't fault him, however, because I was well aware something like this might happen as a result of having objects inserted in the sleeve to stretch it.
The sleeve is now stretched. The computer doesn't fit snugly and I'm able to get the computer in and out with absolutely no resistance. Heck, it's even loose now. A little looser than I'd like, but I'll take this over the way it was day 1.
I am, however, extremely disappointed with the customer service I got with this particular item. For being a company with such a great reputation, I wish that the representatives would've at least offered to exchange the item to see if maybe I got the "ugly duckling" of the batch. Nope. "It'll stretch out with time." "Spritz it with water and leave it overnight." It just seems like they could've done more after I reached out to them, and they just didn't.
Let me start off by saying that I am a huge fan of Saddleback Leather. I love the company and their commitment to making excellent leather goods. My issue with this product is that it doesn't fit my laptop...at all. It is way too tight for my 15" MB Pro with Retina display. I received this as a Christmas gift from my wife and since then I've tried numerous methods of stretching it out. I've contacted customer support and they gave me a suggestion. I followed their direction and it didn't work. I then went to multiple sites and tried various methods of stretching it out and nothing seems to be working. The best thing so far is I stretched it for a week, oiled it, and stretched it another week. That seemed to work for about a week and now I'm back where I started. It takes me 15 minutes (no joke) to take it out of the sleeve. Now I think I'm going to use this as a document holder and get me an Incase sleeve. I've read reviews that the small size is too large for the 13" model and now my medium is too small for my 15" laptop. Saddleback needs to seriously test these sleeves on laptops or at least put a disclaimer about the size issues. I'm frustrated and disappointed with what I received, especially since it's very well made and beautiful to look at. I've just been able to appreciate it only when I'm trying to stretch it out.
After reading some negative publicity on this site I felt the need to say a few words. First of all, I am a loyal Saddleback customer and one for life if the product quality stays the same. Second, this sleeve exactly what your MacBook pro retina display needs. As soon as this hit the site I bought one. It is a perfect fit and protects the computer from everything but large falls. It is different from the original design but in no way does it lack quality or fuctionality from the old MacBook sleeve. As with every Saddleback purchase I have made; I truly feel that this product is engineered to perfection for its function. So although it may not be the same as the last MacBook sleeve; it is the perfect addition.
I have several Saddleback products and they all fit great. This is the first product that just plain fits wrong. This is not snug at all. It is actually very, very loose. The open end is almost twice as large as the MacBook itself. I don't understand why this sleeve is so loose fitting.
This sleeve starts our very snug. So snug you have to shake the laptop out quite vigorously, after a week it loosens up so the laptop just falls out. A much better more protective design would have a flap with straps to hold the laptop in and protect it all around. It would ad bulk but I don't feel that's an issue when protecting an expensive laptop. - Noel
I will start by saying that I LOVE Saddleback products, but this sleeve is ridiculously too big for my 13" MBP w/retina.
It's a half inch too wide and you can stick your entire hand in the sleeve WITH the computer in the sleeve. It is so loose that the computer could pop out of the case just while walking briskly.
I am truly stunned by how bad this product is and I cannot express to you enough that I am not hating on Saddleback because I have loved every product I have ever bought from here EXCEPT this one. I don't know what else to say except that I am hugely disappointed and I wanted to love this product.
I ignored the other reviews and bought it...don't make the same mistake I did, this sleeve is a bad, bad fit.
The Sleeve is awesome. Smells great, looks great, feels great. However, It DOES NOT fit the regular Macbook pros. It is a little bit smaller than the older ones and only fits the retina displays. Wishing Saddleback had an option for the older macs. Other than that you wont be disappointed.
I got a sleeve for my sisters MacBook and I fell in love with the look of it and how you could see all the stitching. This design just doesn't look very appealing to the eye. Wish they still had the old one.
As a Saddleback fanatic, this marks the first occasion in which I'm truly disappointed with an item.
In terms of functionality, there is very little. I purchased the small model, as I own a 13" MacBook Pro with retina display. As another customer wrote, there is a solid half inch of space between your computer and the sleeve all around. It's completely loose. If you turn it upside down or tilt it, your laptop WILL fall out. I previously owned the sleeve for the 13" MacBook Pro without retina (and that computer), and it was not like this. It fit very snugly and was clearly crafted specifically for that device. Not this one, though.
Aesthetically, it's "uglier," too. Hideous, honestly. It just seems like this was a very rushed design. The seam goes straight down the middle of the sleeve and the bottom is just sort of awkwardly sewn shut. Again, the previous model was nothing like this. It had a classy elegance to it. . .like something you'd expect from Saddleback. This one looks like a knockoff.
My final complaint is probably unique to my case, but it's certainly worth mentioning. Saddleback has become relaxed in what pieces of leather they use with regards to what they call "markings" (I call them outright blemishes, but that's a whole other diatribe). I order all of my Saddleback stuff in chestnut, and they're usually pretty good about selecting nicer pieces for that particular color. Actually, I've never seen a single "marking" on a product until now, and I've owned over ten items. The sleeve I received is utterly covered in blemishes. With no hyperbole, this cow lived a ROUGH life. It doesn't look like leather; it looks like it was made from Ray Charles' skin. Very disappointing.
If you buy this, you will most likely be displeased. It's the one Saddleback product I deem unworthy of the monetary cost. I hope Dave goes back to the old design (but made for retina models) and includes some sort of a discount promotion if you exchange this one--it's that bad. Truly.
When I was in high school, Steve and I used to sneak into a city pool in the summertime.
Not everyone is as perfectly coordinated as a Jackie Chan, and unless you are, sooner or later you’re going to need a sleeve for your laptop. It only takes one short moment of poor coordination or lack of mindfulness, just one slip, to cause great distress. A sleeve is cheaper than a month of service time or a new computer.
