My boyfriend surprised me with this purse! I expected it for Christmas but he couldn't wait to give it to me. He seemed more excited than me! LOL. I recently bought a $250 small crossover from Micheal Khors two months ago and the colour is already worn out and torn at the edge. When I felt this tote in my hands, I can honestly say that the quality is 20 times better than any designer purse. It is unique, rough yet elegant looking. It looks worn in and scratched which I love! I have never seen a purse like this. I would also describe it as sort of retro which is my style lately. I didn't think my boyfriend had style but did he ever prove me wrong LOL! Now we are both obsessed with Saddleback Leather. We just bought the coasters and coffee table mat.
My husband and I are huge SBL fans, and I have been coveting the tote for a long time. I have the medium satchel in chestnut, and was using that for years for work and for my daily purse, but when I had my baby I needed/wanted something else. For our recent anniversary, my husband told me to pick out a tote, so I chose the small chestnut tote, without the liner. I am small (5' 3") and thought the large tote might be too big for me, but I was nervous all my kid stuff (diapers, diaper pad wipes, extra food, wallet, phone, keys, fold up grocery bag, and small first aid kit) wouldn't fit since I wanted this to be my purse/diaper bag. So, I got it without the liner. I'm happy to say EVERYTHING fits! And my previous diaper bag was huge! I've arranged my stuff so my wallet (the slim Iphone 6 SBL wallet- also fits my android -yay!) fits at the bottom (since the purse doesn't close- nice for when I'm holding my baby and need to quickly grab something out the bag!), that way I'm not worried about someone stealing it or the weather damaging my wallet or phone in the purse. I even have enough room to put my baby wrap on top of everything for when we're out walking around. It spills out a bit, but that's fine- totally worth it for something that looks beautiful and is durable. And for those concerned about the weight, the small (even loaded with baby stuff) is not heavy! A fantastic, gorgeous bag, and would recommend it to anyone!
I have the large tote in chestnut. It is gorgeous. Absolutely beautiful. I use it mostly for business during the work week to carry files, tablet, reading material and my "old-school" looseleaf planner to and from work, along with my wallet, phone and all the odds-n-ends I used to carry in my purse. I also put my water bottle and commuter coffee mug in there as well. On the weekends, I've stashed workout clothes in the tote. I plan to use the d-rings to rig up a strap to hold my yoga mat. The smaller interior pocket easily fits my IPhone 5c in an Otter Commuter case. I'm barely 5'2" and the large tote looks great - it is big capacity-wise, but not too big-looking.
This bag is as functional as it is beautiful, and that is saying a lot.
I love my bag, and there's really no point in me reiterating all the great comments that everyone else has written. I'll just say that the large tote is everything it's cracked up to be. Of special appeal to me is the color change my bag has undergone in the five months I've been carrying it. I purchased it in chestnut and over just a short time it's changed into a rich chocolate brown color, which I love. I would have ordered a chocolate brown bag first if the company offered it, so seeing the chestnut color change time over has been great. I have other accessories in chestnut which have also morphed to varying shades of chocolate - trifold wallet, cable bag (which I use for cosmetics), and mini iPad cover.
Now that there's a 35% off sale, I'm considering getting the shell in tobacco and switching out the liner when I want a change.
One further comment/suggestion: I'd love to wear this bag crossbody, but the straps really aren't long enough. I'm only 5'6", but even at the longest adjusted setting, the bag still rides higher than I'd like it to. Maybe Saddleback could offer longer straps for sale, as an after market accessory? Another 3-4 inches would make all the difference.
I love this bag! I have the DCB small with the liner. It is the perfect size for my small laptop, and other daily necessities and it looks amazing. Professional enough to carry when meeting clients, but still looks tough! (No shiny girly bags for me, please.) I always carry a sweater or jacket, and I love that there is plenty of room to toss it in the top of the bag. The handles, which I thought I would not use, are awesome, and make it easier to place in and out of the car, etc. I loop the straps through them to secure the bag on flights and that keeps it shut nice and tight. With a sweater in there, nothing will fall out if there is a shift in-flight. The way the bag is shaped, wider at the top, I think it is much easier to look in and find what you are looking for in the bottom of the bag, and the lighter colored interior helps too. I really have no complaints at all. In fact, the bag went on sale 14 days after I received mine, and I feared that the sale meant the bag may be discontinued. -I'd hate for the versatility of the movable liner to go to waste, so I just ordered another tote, unlined, in black! If you are on the fence, go for it. It will last a lifetime, or two. I was always so sorry that I missed out on the size small classic briefcase during its brief life at Saddleback and I thought nothing else would do, but this bag has certainly helped me let go. I am ordering the messenger bag next!
My brother purchased this bag for me once he discovered Saddleback. I have used this bag every single day since that time. I use it primarily as my laptop bag, but the weekend functionality is fabulous as well. I do not mind it being open...I just throw a scarf on top and it looks great. Every time I see my brother, he inspects the bag looking for blemishes and wear and tear. I actually think he is disappointed that it does not look worn enough even though it is well over a year old. I am notoriously hard on purses, but even with the rough treatment of being tossed in my jeep and a lot of sun exposure, it still looks nearly new. Amazing products.
I was walking through an airport and my old leather bag's shoulder strap gave way, spilling the contents all over the floor and bruising my carefully crafted ego. That's it--it's time to buy a bag that's tough and beautiful! This is the one--I'm expecting my family to fight over it now. I highly recommend this bag for its durability, design and beauty. Thank you, also, to Dave's hot wife for making the right design decisions. I'm now doing that Italian thing where you kiss your fingers and go "mhuah!" Perfecto!
Earlier this year, as I was boarding the California Zepher train (Chicago to San Fransisco), I heard a lady behind me say: "Herb! Herb! Look at her bag! It's the sexy-savvy- traveler-Goddess tote of my dreams!" I saw her again the next morning in the observation car. Several hours (and several swapped travel stories later) later, she'd ordered her own online.
The office. The pool. The farmer's market. The train. The airport. The museum. The studio. This is the only bag I will ever need.
I have owned the small tote in tobacco color (old version) for more than 2 years. The workmanship is just outstanding. It is also the piece which got me started or rather addicted to collecting saddleback leather and love41 bags. Recently, i have revived using my tote more often, as i found a way to close the bag: use a nice, light scarf to tie over the handle. Simple as that, it looks nice n trendy too, i wonder why i didn't think of that earlier! I am 5 ft tall, the small tote is the perfect size and length for me. I recommend you buying the saddleback leather tote over other branded designer bag that is a total rip-off and yet does not offer half the quality that saddleback leather is offering. You will know what i mean after you own the first piece:)
I just received my new Lg Tote in Dark Coffee Brown from Dave's Deals. And I, just like several others who have purchased Deals cannot find what the defect is. I ordered this bag a few days ago and the shipping (as always) was at warp-speed! Love that! I currently own: A medium briefcase, classic duffel, macbook pro sleeve, bible cover, big wallet, and now the tote. And I have plans to purchase the little gear bags. I really love the products and the guarantee. I have had to return my duffel and briefcase a few times for repairs ( I am hard on things) after taking them on tours in Iraq and Afghanistan. I have always had excellent customer service. So, all I can say is that if you buy one item it WILL lead to more purchases. :) As far as sizing goes in the tote, I am 5'9" and the bag is a generous size and the straps came adjusted perfectly for me. I believe that this will be my new go-to bag.
P.S. Saddleback bring back the solid black!!! I would like to buy that one as well. See??? Addicted!!!!
My husband bought me this, upon my instructions, for Christmas 2013. In fact, we originally bought the small tote, which I immediately upgraded to the large tote. I was able to get one of Dave's deals. It was a bit scratched when I received it, but I have never possessed such a beautiful, and obviously durable leather item before. The scratch just adds character. The bag fits on my shoulder perfectly, and is just the right size for all my accoutrements. I chose not to purchase the liner -it would reduce the space available for all the things I carry. The lack of liner does not detract from the bag. The bag is heavy, but the weight feels balanced, somehow. The tote seems to be the new handbag size of choice, and I am beyond pleased that not only is this a far superior quality item, it also makes a fashion statement. Great design and product.
I've enjoyed my Large Chestnut Tote for a few years now. Never have I had folks stop me to talk about my bags before, but this thing is a beauty and I get looks and comments about it all the time. I'm so proud to share where anyone can get their hands on this treasure!! Happy shopping y'all!
Wow! The Dark Coffee Brown Bag got here, after much anticipation, quickly, and i got pictures at the office with lots of gushy stuff, from the wife that afternoon. She's had it a couple of weeks and the love is still there. We got the large because she is a piano teacher, and carries a small library with her wherever she goes. Weight was not an issue, and she is a whimp. Everything fits and she did her nesting and arranging and using the D rings to hang carabiners, sunglasses cases and water bottles, and couldn't be happier. Quality is outstanding! Got it on Dave's Deals and can't see why it was discounted. Daughter has already laid claim to it when she's gone. Honestly she couldn't be happier. Dave thanks! It's not often i get moved to new superhero status, so you did me proud. Keep up the good work, and thanks for making such wonderful products!
I recently got the Carbon Small leather tote and I really love it! It is as advertised and I am pretty sure I could use this as a self defense weapon -- it is so sturdy! Although the weight on paper seems daunting, it really isn't once you put it on your shoulder and it is balanced really well. I can carry my Thinkpad Yoga, which is about the same size as a macbook air 13 inch. It sticks out the top a little (like in the video where Suzette demos how the laptops fit) but since I only carry my laptop to work in my car, this is not an issue.
For more everyday usage, including weekends and travelling, I was worried about the open nature of this purse, as there is no closure mechanism and I live in Boston and also travel to NYC a lot. This was thankfully easily fixed by using a purse organizer insert that zips. I have a Purse to Go Zip Up in jumbo size and it fits perfectly in the small tote (just a half cm away from showing above the edge of the purse, but not quite! You can't see it when the purse is closed or being carried).
It adds some extra organization and pockets and the zipper adds the security the bag was lacking. Plus, I didn't have to change the actual bag in any way! I love my new purse and I know I'll be using it for years to come and I've already got a list of Saddleback products in mind to buy! Thanks Saddleback!
I had been trying to decide on this bag for the longest time, because I had concerns about which size I needed, plus the fact that the bag doesn't have a closure. After much vacillating, I finally decided to take the plunge on the large chestnut tote. I cannot even begin to describe how happy that I finally did. The leather is the most gorgeous, rich brown, the quality is beyond measure, and I am in love with the pogskin lining. On paper, the 4 lb weight seems daunting, but when you actually put the bag on your shoulder, it's distributed very comfortably. Really great engineering and design on this bag. What I love the most though, is that my 14" Lenovo Thinkpad fits in the tote, along with a large cosmetic bag, my SBL Big Wallet, sunglass case, keys, and phone. Plenty of room. This was truly an intelligent investment since it's fashion and function at its greatest height. Oh. On the closure issue: I ordered some custom straps that I will loop around both top handles and fasten, which will at least close the bag a bit more for when I am commuting on the train.
I bought the large tobbacco tote. This bag is really good in terms of quality. I love the idea of the pigskin.
Cons: 1. I am 4'8 height, 98 pounds. The straps are too long for someone like me, you will have to add another hole.
2. I live in Canada, so it is not convenience to use an open bag since we have snow, rain and strong wind there are high chances that your stuff will get wet.
3. This bag is really good for someone that go around in car, however since I'm always using public transportation is kind of heavy for everyday use unless you just bring your wallet, bottle of water, glasses, an agenda and cellphone other than that it might be a little heavier (That is just me since I am small size).
Over all, I really recommend this tote!, is really beautiful and durable. Sadly, it is not suitable for me.
My Husband got the large tote bag and wallet for me for Christmas 2013, after I saw his brief case, I love the bag, it is very well made; BUT there is one problem I found with carrying this bag by the shoulder straps there is no way to close it, it stays wide open so this makes it not a good bag for carrying in public where there may be large crowds, like Malls, going on travel, and such. There should be a snap, or strap on the handle or inside the bag so no one can reach in and take your wallet or anything out while you may be otherwise occupied.
I wouldn't recommend the bag unless it has a way to be closed. I will have to spend more money having some type of closure added to it for security.
I received the large tote in tobacco for Christmas and I am so excited. Its absolutely amazing!!! The craftsmanship is ridiculous. OMG!!! This bag will out live me LOL My cousin's husband bought her 2 large totes for Christmas last year and I was so determined to get my hands on one of my own. I must of been a good girl this year because Santa left this beauty under the tree for me *wink* I am absolutely hooked on this tote and I will definitely be buying one in every color. Thank you Saddleback Leather. Merry Christmas everyone.
This is the bag that changed me and made me toss most of my other brand name, yet poorly constructed bags (i.e. Coach, Kenneth Cole, Louis Vuitton, and Juicy Couture). I am FASCINATED with the craftsmanship of this product. The two things that had me sold on this product: the nipple rivet (so the two straps don't fall off the shoulder) and the removable pig skin lining. I have owned this product in Chestnut for over 2 years and it's still in good shape! The inner, removable lining was perfect as I constantly used this as a diaper bag (and as a mommy, we all know that sticky, messy sippy cups tend to be a problem in bags). Whenever I had a mess, I could literally pull out the inner lining, dump out the contents, and wipe out the mess. I love it and this bag will definitely outlive me!!!
I've been waiting to get this bag for three years now and my husband got it for me this Christmas. It really made the wait worthwhile. However, I ordered it in the carbon and it's not quite as gray as in the picture (I've fewed on quite a few monitors). It really tends more towards black or a really, really, really dark gray. I had even emailed with Saddleback to make sure of the color before I put it on my Christmas list and they said it was gray. But, it really is a very slightly faded black and will look pretty much black in most light. I almost exchanged it for another color, but decided in the end to just keep it. So, just be aware that if you are looking for a gray, the carbon color is probably not it. Perhaps, it's just hard to capture the color for showing online.
I'm waiting, in anticipation, for my big leather wallet to arrive. I didn't purchase it from Saddlebackleather, but found a brand new one on ebay instead. I wanted to purchase it from Saddleback, but couldn't afford it. Now, not only will I have two Saddleback totes, one large the other small, but now the wallet as well. Can't wait to make my next purchase, however, having a hard time deciding what it'll be. Oh, btw, large tote was purchased from Dave's Deal not from ebay. My next purchases from here on out will be from Saddlebackleather!
I got the small tote in Tobacco as a graduation gift and it's amazing! The new and improved tobacco is so amazing I have so many unique scars on my bag and I see this bag being used in all walks of life. Taking it on trips and using it as a backpack, diaper bag, etc. Yet, above all else thank you for the "hidden egg" that was under the lining...I'm glad to know it's there if ever needed. ;)
I've had the small tote for about a week now and I really love it! It's the perfect size for a purse, although it's roomy enough that I can fit my medium notepad holder in there without any problem. The quality is incredible and I love the tobacco color. It is an open top bag, so it will tip in the car and potentially spill some contents. I think the perfect complement to the bag would be the large wallet so I may add that to my collection later on!
Purchased a Saddleback leather small tote off ebay. The bag looks as though it was hardly carried. I'm totally in love with this bag, but must say, it's quite heavy. After purchasing the small tote, I 'moseyed' on over to Saddleback Leather Co. and see what other bags is offered and i'm happy i did! I've decided to give my mother the small tote (she's been eyeballing it since I've gotten it) and have ordered a large tote, in tan, from Dave's Deal. I'm waiting, impatiently, for it to arrive Dec. 4th, but i know when it does I won't be disappointed. I'll, however, have to wait until end of next month to purchase liner f0r it! Yashere'e G.

I've always had a bag addiction, not because I wanted a lot of bags, but because I've been in search of 'the perfect bag.' Finally, it's here. So now I will sell my collection of Dooney & Bourke, Coach, LV, Gucci, Timbuk2, and other random bags on Ebay. I purchased the large tote, it's a perfect size. Looks great with my SBL large wallet and iPad case. I put the Love41 cosmetic bag on my Christmas wish list too. I use my small classic briefcase for work commute, medium classic briefcase for work travel and conferences. I think a few luggage pieces are next. Suzanne, any new designs for large handbags in the future? Thanks for making such phenomenal products.
