I have been hunting for a notepad folder that'd stand up to my aggressive travel schedule for months before coming across Saddleback. I went with a 25% discounted Dave's Deal in Dark Coffee and I could not be more pleased. The leather is a little stiff (as you'd expect) and it smells very new but the color is awesome and the folder holds everything I need for my weeks on the road. I'm pretty sure that this folder will last far longer than the one it is replacing (a Staples piece). Don't wait! Buy one!

"... Saddleback Leather no longer discriminates aganist any cow on the basis of age, appearance, lactose intolerance... if the beast has a natural marking or brand, or whether or not they worship the Divine Bovine."
Truth is, sometimes beauty is only skin deep... like with cows. Their poetry is notoriously terrible, but man, their hides are nature's art. We don't believe that flawlessness equals beauty. Beauty is when we're able to see someting as it really is.
This is true with humans too. There are lots of quality people who are really beautiful not in spite of, but because of the masks life has given them.
When I was selling real estate in Mexico City and would go to visit a potential client, I never wanted to overwhelm or intimidate them with a big bag full of contracts.
This will be the fourth item added to my Saddleback collection. After reading some of the reviews I was a little nervous about the new leather changes, specifically the pigskin, but after getting the small notepad holder I have to say I think they made a good move. This is the armored tank of notepad holders and I hope to enjoy it for many years to come.
Why anyone would give this product less that five stars is beyond me. I've been using it for a little while now, and I'm still thrilled about it. It works perfectly for my needs, and looks amazing! I just wish the Dark Coffee Brown was in stock when I ordered it. I went whiskey instead, and that still looks great!
Also, I've bought a handful of the small wallets for friends and relatives as presents in the past, and eveyone loves them. My girlfriend even loves hers. Keep up the outstanding work!
I love my small notepad holder. However, I am a notebook and not a notepad user. It is challenging finding a professional notebook that can fit in the side slot. I ended up heavily massacring (trimming) a Black and Red 8 1/4 x 5 5/8 notebook to fit it in the small notepad holder. The fit is less than ideal, bu canât use the pen slot.
the Medium size is actually too big (IMO). It would be great if Dave can make us a size that is in-between the small and the medium. There are a lot of notebook options in the range of 5-6 X 8-9 size!! Give it a try, Dave!!
Over the last 2-3 years I bought: a wallet (black), briefcase (coffee), belt (coffee), large desk pad (chestnut), and notepad holder (chestnut). None of these purchases were made lightly -- I'm a very careful consumer. I cannot speak highly enough about the quality of these products. They are truly made to last a lifetime. My wallet is nearly 3 years old, I use it daily, and it still looks brand new. My briefcase is showing some wear but, as expected, it adds to the attractiveness of the product. The only very slight regret I have is that I probably should have chosen a chestnut briefcase and black notepad holder (not the current black, but the black they use to offer -- like my wallet).
Former boss had this notepad holder and from the moment I saw him using it I wanted one. I now own the medium chestnut version and I am extremely happy with it. When I bring it into meetings, it is without a doubt the nicest notepad holder in the room. As a young professional, I wanted something that I would be able to carry with me for a long time. After using this for a few months I can say that its definately worth the investment.
I can see from the reviews the new light pigskin liner has received mixed reviews. I actually like it very much and that was why I bought a dark brown notepad holder and wallet. I think the contrast is awesome and actually makes an already good product even classier. You should use it on the back of your belts as well. I got the small size notebook holder, which is perfect for carrying around in my tobacco large round satchel. Great stuff!
My wife bought this for me as a wedding gift last June. Since then, it has accompanied me to EVERY meeting here at the office. She got me the DCB color, since I have multiple other pieces in that color, to include (but not limited to) the iPhone sleeve and medium gadget sleeve. After having it for just shy of a year, the leather has softened up, particularly on the spine and the pen holder, which were both VERY stiff in the beginning. I have worked it in by foldling it back on itself, "massaging" the spine, and even sitting on it to get it to be "just right."
This piece turns heads at the office. Recently, some "higher-ups" were in town and of course, we had some lengthy meetings to attend. The whole time, I was catching them stealing glances down at the notepad holder and compliments followed after the meetings.
I believe I have made a convert of one of them, so SBL - you're welcome! :) Many more product from you all will be purchased. I have my eyes on the passport wallet next...
LOVE LOVE LOVE this! I had a " " Leather " " portfolio, you get what you pay for! This on the other hand gets noticed and for good reason! It is clean and sturdy and just a wonderful investment!
I bought the medium notepad holder. I was more on the fence about buying this than about any of my other Saddleback purchases, mainly because I wondered if I NEEDED it, or if I just WANTED it because it's pretty. In the end, I decided to buy it, because it could replace my binder, and allow me to use the engineering pads that I prefer in style.
It's absolutely gorgeous. It definitely has a rugged aesthetic, and it's extremely functional. It provides a fantastic desk space for me wherever I'm at.
In addition, on a whim I decided to see if it could function as an iPad holder as well. I have an iPad Air, and I figured that it was probably small enough that it'd fit where you're meant to be storing loose papers on the left hand side. It fits perfectly there, and seems fairly secure when the notepad holder is closed. I'd recommend doing this if you don't want to carry around the iPad sleeve as well as the notepad holder.
All in all, I'm very pleased with it, and I'm sure I'l be using it until I go grey.
Ordered small notepad holder on Tuesday evening - it arrived on following Thursday. Can't say much more than already's been said. Purchased the classic briefcase several years ago and wouldn't trade it for anything I've seen on the market. In addition to the extreme quality of workmanship and materials, as a pastor I appreciate what the company stands for. All good when dealing with Saddleback.
Most of my customers have asked about my notepad holder when they see it. "Wow, that is really nice". I tell them I have had countless binders, Folios and folders all have fallen apart. THIS is well worth the price. It's truth what Dave says, "Buy nice or buy twice!"
I bought the medium from Dave's Deals in chestnut as a Christmas gift. It was very difficult not to keep for myself. Nice thick leather and typical SB quality.
I have both the small and the medium in tobacoo , I use them both the smaller one in my purse for notes and bills, and the larger one I use everyday for my court appointments as well as investigations.
I bought 10 medium notepads for our sales force . These are very nice and rugged. For some strange reason the inner pigskin of the notepads is marked permanently with dark brown substance....looks dirty and unattractive. Very disappointed . It is not removable as it seems part of the pigskin. Oh well, the rest of it is nice. I have to settle.
This is the best padfolio ever! Quality materials and impeccable construction. I always get compliments on it!
Bought the small case. This is the best leather item I have ever purchased or even seen in my life. First purchase from the company 3 weeks ago. Now I have the bible cover, big wallet, slim wallet, cell phone case and a bag. I'm ADDICTED!
I am not new to Saddleback leather. I have a two year old large satchel in chestnut. An Ipad 2 case in carbon black. I have always wanted the medium notepad in dark coffee brown and finally ordered and received it this past weekend. I couldn't be happier with the heft and the construction. Can't wait till it softens up with break-in just like my previous SB products. Thanks for another great item.
This leather notebook cover is for professionals only!
That's right- when you buy this fine leather product and take it to your place of work, prepare to get lots of looks and compliments especially from the big dogs. In fact by buying this notebook case or any other Saddleback leather products its like saying "hey world, I'm a professional and I take my life seriously and buy and show off high quality belongings. I highly recommend preparing yourself for people asking you alot of questions about the leather by reading up on Saddleback leather's home page, watching videos, and following their awesome facebook page. But I assume most of you who found Saddleback leather products already do this and check the facebook page for contests, watch dave deals every hour and tuck in at night with your leather goods under your pillow like myself.
So professional or not, buy this product! Don't wait! Soon you will be rubbing elbows with the big wigs and enjoying your work and life so much more!
Hats off again to Dave and the Saddleback company for an amazing company with an honest and quality mission.
Just got mine off Dave's Deals. He was seriously being generous the other day because it's in perfect condition. Got the Carbon Black Small. Looks great and fits the 2013 Nexus tablet perfectly in the left pocket.
I grew tired of going through a number of cheap, giveaway-type portfolios that not only looked cheap, but fell apart pretty quickly as well. What's the point? Anyway, I picked up one of these in Chestnut on Dave's Deals and wow! Unless I lose it or somebody steals it, I can't imagine ever wanting or having to replace it. It rides in my Saddleback briefcase wherever I go, and after about 6 months it's picking up some nice character. I get a lot of compliments on it, and it's ALWAYS the nicest portfolio in the room. Go ahead and get one!
I have had my notepad holder for about 18 months now. I purchased a Chestnut in medium (the older, larger one). I take it to class (grad school) and to work. Everywhere I go people admire it (especially when I pull it out of one of my SBL briefcases). I've even been asked by a friend to borrow it so she would look professional during a presentation--of course! From job interviews to executive meetings and even out in the garage to sketch up woodworking drawings, this notepad holder is a constant companion.
In addition to all the glowing comments in other reviews, I love this notepad cover because I can fold it back--a fantastic feature that is very hard to find in quality pad folios. When I hold it on my lap or place it on a small table, I can write with ease. It is also a great feature for lefties.
I just received my notepad holder and it looks great. One issue off the bat is the front cover does not stay closed and stays open at an almost 90 degree angle. Hopefully in time the leather will break it and it will stay closed. I think the notebook could benefit greatly with just a small strap to keep it closed.
I ordered the small 5X8 notepad holder and received this product a week ago. I have had several people pick it up and comment on how well made it is. It doesn't stay closed yet, but I know that the more the leather is worked, the sooner it will close automatically. Fantastic craftmanship! I will order it's older brother (8X11)shortly. A classic, yet rustic look with the functionality that can't be complaired.
I can't see where anyone would settle for a cheeply made product when they could pay slightly more for an unbelievable product! Don't hessitate!
