We use natural Markings Equal Inclusion of Exceptional Imperfection Ornamentation

"... Saddleback Leather no longer discriminates against any cow on the basis of age, appearance, lactose intolerance... if the beast has a natural marking or brand, or whether or not they worship the Divine Bovine."

Truth is, sometimes beauty is only skin deep... like with cows. Their poetry is notoriously terrible, but man, their hides are nature's art. We don't believe that flawlessness equals beauty. Beauty is when we're able to see something as it really is.

This is true with humans too. There are lots of quality people who are really beautiful not in spite of, but because of the marks life has given them.

I found my favorite belt ever in a little weekend traveling mercado when I was living there selling real estate at a country club in a little town outside of Mexico City. It was one solid piece of leather, not as thick as this belt is, but it was thick. It had accidentally been with me in the Mediterranean, getting pushed into swimming pools, and not accidentally all over the world. So when I left it in the security checkpoint at the Dallas/Ft. Worth airport 10 years later, I kinda wanted to cry. Strangely enough, I still miss that belt because of all the pants and memories it held. As soon as I found a leather good and thick enough, I recreated it with a few improvements I learned along the way. We only found one tannery on the North American continent with specialty leather this thick. The belt might just be tougher than you are.

The belt I've been looking for all my life.

by - verified purchaser |
This belt is awesome! You're just not going to find anything of this quality in any department stores. The color and markings are great and the buckle is high quality.

It's a little stiff at first. I just got mine, but like all quality leather products, it should break in over time.

People have complained about the holes punched close to the end, that doesn't bother me at all. For the investment, I'm glad to have the 3/4" spacing and the extra room to grow/shrink as my waistline is so prone to doing.

One word of caution. This belt is big. It fits all my jeans from Levi Strauss and American Eagle. You couldn't wear this with dress pants or perhaps more trendy jeans. I plan on buying one in black soon.

Thanks for another quality product!

Tales of this belts are not overated

When I stumbled on this site from God knows where.... I read some of the reviews and decided to give it a go.... I have not been disappointed. The leather is good and sturdy. I have gone through many belts for my 'trying to get outta line midsection' and I keep having to change them. I think I'll be keeping this belt for a long time and I'll be coming back to buy the brown colored belt too.

Also can you please make an iPad Air case too?

This Belt is unreal, I bought the Dark Coffee brown and I intend to buy the Black as well now. I also bought my wife a I-Pad cover that is outstanding. I am now addicted, I intend to buy a Briefcase as well as some other goods.

What kind of monster...???

The thickness and stiffness of this leather is just outstanding, but when I consider the source, my mind boggles. Some animal was moving underneath a whole hide of this stuff? How?

Awesome belt

by - verified purchaser |
I have been wearing this belt daily for over two years and it is everything it is claimed to be and more. The belt is a little stiff at first and takes a few months to break in. It squeaked for a month or two when first worn but after the break-in period it has been silent. The scarring on the inside of the belt is quite interesting.

Regarding the size, measure your actual waist and talk to customer service about picking a length. I did this and I wear my belt on the exact middle hole. Don't guess or base it on your pant size, measure yourself and talk to them.

The plating on the Chicago screws has worn off and the brass is developing a nice patina. The top two screws have worn in faster than the bottom (perhaps the way the leather moves when I sit and stand) so I swapped them with the two bottom screws after two years and now they are wearing in nicely as well.

Old Bull belt

by - verified purchaser |
This is such a good belt, I was concerned that one would age, or simply degenerate, so I bought a second one .... not too sure what I was thinking - you can only wear one belt at a time. Sure enough, the aging has come, but the belt simply looks better - the 100 years guarantee is real 100%, it is not just sales talk because Saddleback will never have to replace anything they make ..... There is nothing that compares, not even at prices 4 and 5 times greater - not anything, nowhere. This guys stuff is the best that it could be, every single time. These days it is all about making a fast buck, and if that's what you want, head for Gucci, Armarni or other - but if you want something real, made by real people and sold with genuine conviction - buy this stuff. This is a statement of fact.

Best Belt I've ever owned

by |
I just got my old bull belt a couple days ago. I went with the carbon color. This is seriously the best, toughest belt I've ever owned. It fits perfectly in my jeans and the leather is nice and thick. My wife picked it up and was surprised at how heavy it was. It has a very rugged look, definitely more of a casual belt than formal. It could definitely carry a tool belt or a gun holster or anything like that. This is my second purchase from Saddleback and so far I'm a huge fan.

Nice belt, but...

by - verified purchaser |
This belt is overall pretty good, except that the first two (or three really) holes are unusable. I got the 30 inch and have really had to squeeze into it. The good thing is that it stretches a bit over time, but if in doubt, I would go size up rather than down.

Best Belt Ever

by - verified purchaser |
I'm a belt guy, have been for years, and this is the best belt I've ever owned. I'll go as far as saying it's the best belt I will ever own. Just ordered my pant size and it fits perfectly.

Thanks SBL!

Great belt (3 extra holes have potential)

by |
I bought a Black Bull 1.5 32" belt several years ago and have been waiting quite a while for a 1.75 Brown Bull to become available. I agree that the three holes at the tip of the belt are worthless, perhaps Dave didn't quite do the homework on this (but maybe he used it as an icebreaker topic at Texas garden parties so I wouldn't discount it yet until it is proven otherwise) but despite this minor design issue, the leather feels like it will last at least 100years. One word of caution, however, is that the Chicago screws can come undone - (I lost one and they sent me another one not quite like the original so you need to ensure they are screwed in tight and then squirt Locktite on them or else check periodically for loose screws - on your belt I mean.)

Sizing

by - verified purchaser |
I forgot to add to my review I ordered my pant size and it was perfect, I ended up using the Middle hole so I have room if I go up or down an inch or 2 for sure.

I am ordering a Black one today.

Nice Heavy Duty Belt

by - verified purchaser |
I purchased the 1.75" black belt.

Description: Casual belt, great with jeans, not suitable as a dress belt, belt buckle not removable, color I would consider black - not as gray as it looks in the picture

Quality: Nice heavy piece of leather, Solid chrome buckle (not shiny)

Sizing: This is where I had the most questions. I wear a size 32 jean and I purchased the 34 belt which is a good size. A 32 belt would have been too small because the end of the belt wouldn't go through the belt loop. A 36 would have been fine as well. My advice would be to size up at least one from your pant size.

As beefy as the cow it came from.

this thing is a tank. when I grabbed it out of the box, I thought it was rolled up a few times. nope, that's just how thick it is. easily 3-4x thicker than any cheap leather belt I've owned previously. I have no doubt it'll last forever. the hardware is solid and bulletproof. the belt is a bit squeaky and really stiff the first few months, but power through and you'll be golden. as far as sizing; I wear a 32 waist, occasionally 33. I opted for the 34 belt, and it's perfect. I'm on the second-to-last hole, and that leaves the perfect length out the other end, while giving me plenty of room to gain weight. which I should... this belt is almost too thick for my skinny self. ha! also keep in mind, it's quite wide, so make sure your belt loops will accommodate it. seriously, make sure.

Get it NOW

by - verified purchaser |
Bought the 1.75 inch old bull belt in the original black color... WOW. Bull belt? They should name this the BEAST belt as clearly this was made from the hide of something unnatural. Just by holding it I KNOW Saddleback is right, it is without a doubt the last belt I'll ever NEED. That won't stop me from getting the chestnut and dark coffee versions as soon as I can save up for them though! The belt fits the loops of my jeans without a problem and just feels heavy and solid in your hand. I didn't realize the buckle would be so impressive, definitely a solid piece of hardware. Got the belt in the original black color since I'm not sure if they are going to transition to carbon soon (their current gray/light black color). That and the fact that since Saddleback got rid of the 1.75 inch tow belt before, I'm not sure if the Bull belt will also see that fate one day. Do yourself a favor and just buy this thing now if you really want it. You'll be kicking yourself for years if you don't. Psssh, if you're trying to lose weight and get down a size and are holding off because of that.... just get your current size. You can always add more holes later at a shoemakers shop or on your own once you get to your goal weight.

Weird Holes

by - verified purchaser |
Like a previous review stated the first three holes are useless. Even if it was Thanksgiving I don't see wearing a belt on the last hole with the tail sticking straight out. This doesn't effect me because I wear it tighter but if you plan on wearing this on the first three holes, I would size up. Love the Carbon, great belt, but weird holes. Size appropriately.

Buy the belt...NOW!!!

by - verified purchaser |
When I take this belt off at the airport, the TSA agents step back. Its so thick, it may as well be made out of dinosaur hide. My pants stay up out of respect/fear of this belt. Its made from the thickest, toughest leather I've ever seen and it bares the quality and workmanship Saddleback is famous for. You'll never need another one. I bought the 1 3/4 chestnut and it is a wide belt. I'll be buying a black one soon. Great for holsters. I can't say enough about this belt. You better be man enough for this belt...or it just might wear you.

Great Leather, Flawed design

by - verified purchaser |
The leather is really nice. Very thick and should last forever.

The belt holes start about an inch and three quarters from the tip and there are 9 holes, evenly spaced 3/4 inch apart. The problem is the buckle/keeper combination needs about 4 inches of belt, making the first 3-4 holes completely useless, unless you like the tip of your belt sticking out straight in front of you.

I ordered a couple replacement buckles online (one with a double bar which would let me use all the holes), and the belt does have screws to remove it, but I've been unable to get them out, as the rivet side just spins when turning the screw.

This problem is easily fixed-with either a different buckle on the same belt, or with the same buckle and starting the holes 4" from the tip instead of 1 3/4".

I was surprised at this oversight-I own 5-6 other Saddleback products and the details are usually well thought out.

I love it except...

by - verified purchaser |
So my belt arrived yesterday. It is a fantastic build that I anticipate will last forever, much like the other two Saddleback items I have recently purchased (passport wallet and the medium bi-fold wallet).

As one reviewer noted there is a flaw which is very apparent in person. The holes of the belt start way too close to the tip/end of the belt. While this belt is above standard in every other facet, I think they've really missed on this one aspect.

I ordered to my pant size and it fits true to size. It fits and feels great. It just doesn't leaving me with the warm and fuzzy feeling knowing that there's a little buffer room to grow if required.

The following examples were completed with the belt out in my hands, not around my waist.

The first hole causes the end to poke straight out.

The second hole lets the end just barely makes it under the provided loop.

The third hole allows about a 1/4 inch of leather fully through the loop, with the angled edge visible on both side of the loop. When on this third hole it looks like the belt is too small and shouldn't be worn by the wearer.

It is not until the fourth hole that the end is satisfactorily tucked with confidence it won't pop out.

This is where most belts start their holes. This means 33% of the holes on this belt are not functional.

Another three inches in length would make this the worlds greatest belt. If there's a chance your waist will fluctuate I would definitely say order a larger size. You may otherwise be left with using another belt. I had hoped that this would be the last belt I would need to purchase but, based on lack of buffer, I'm going to have to keep another around.

I'm sorry it's long winded, but I wanted the explanation to be as thorough and specific as possible.
