First things first, this belt is beyond outstanding. I've had it for about four years. It is of the utmost quality a belt can be made. The leather is so high quality that I have never seen a leather product anywhere else look the way this does. Its funny because after using saddleback leather you just don't look at other leather products the same. I can just see the cheapness that all these companies sell. This belt is so beautiful, over time it mold's to the natural shape of your waist and gains this beautiful texture pattern in it almost like a wrinkled explorers face after a lifetime of adventure. I could never allow myself to wear another belt after putting this on. Now, the second thing about this belt, I was at the MGM a couple months ago and my friends and I bought a bottle of wine and when we got to the room we realized we didn't have a cork screw, so I thought oh no problem the hotel probably has one. I called down to see and they told me I would have to purchase one if I wanted it. So I did what any man would do, I found a way. After looking for anything I could, too no avail, I looked down at my Old Bull Belt, whipped it off and shoved the needle part of the buckle into the cork, bent it a little to the side for a good grip on the cork (it has a natural curve at the tip so it grabbed perfect) and I yanked that cork right out and poured myself a glass and slowly drank it as I looked out to the beautiful city lights and dreamy desert backdrop of Las Vegas. It was a ten dollar bottle of wine but it was the best wine I ever tasted. Thank you Saddleback Leather. I love you guys.
I have 2 of these belts. One in carbon black and the other in chestnut and they are both amazing and great looking belts. They're thick, heavy, and smell real good. Be prepared to get a lot of compliments when wearing one of these belts!!!!
Short and sharp....AWESOME!
For those people that are still thinking what size to buy, just buy your exact pants size. My size 32" belt
fit my 32" waist on the number 7 hole of the belt.
I'm in law enforcement and have worn a competitors belt for the last 15 years believing nothing could be better than the one I wore. I was wrong! This belt is amazing. The width of the belt takes the weight of a weapon and displaces it over a wider area making it much more comfortable to wear. I loved it so much I bought one in brown and black. The belt I swore by for all those years just hangs on the rack now wishing it was a Saddleback Old Bull belt... I am a 32 inch waist in jeans and the size 32 belt fits me on the 6th hole with 3 more to go if i lose weight. Stop reading reviews and just buy it.
The leather used to make this belt is outstanding! I have been wearing it for close to 2 years (every day, that's over 700 days straight!). My last belt was the heaviest full grain belt I could find in a store. When I first put this belt on, it felt like a piece of heavy horse tack compared to my last, apparently wimpy, leather belt. It broke in easily and conformed to my body well. It is now the most comfortable belt I have worn to date, and I see no signs of it giving up the ghost any time soon.
The design of this belt leaves something to be desired. "Lack of design" is probably a better word for it, since it appears they didn't even try to come up with a good belt design. The two major flaws are:
1) The holes come so close to the end, most of them are unusable:
I don't think anyone even thought about hole placement when this belt was designed. No one in their right mind would consciously decide to put holes in a location where they cant be used, so I have to assume they just arbitrarily started punching holes without thinking it through at all.
2) The method of buckle attachment is permanent, so you can't change buckles:
The buckle works fine, but if I had a choice, I would put a different style on this thing. Many people who own and enjoy heavy duty belts already have a favorite buckle that is often switched from belt to belt, but that's not an option here. I understand that the thick leather makes engineering a removable buckle attachment difficult but, again, I tend to think this is a case of "they didn't even consider it" - another point where there seems to be no "design" to it, it was just slapped together.
The apparent lack of a thought out design knocks this from an indisputable 5 stars down to 3 stars. With 2 minor changes (which would cost nothing to incorporate), this would be the best belt ever created by man! It's a good belt as-is, but it's still a disappointing effort of Saddleback's part.
I have went thru a lot of belts. Just got this one and now i can see why. Dont be fooled by top grain leather - it is crap. This full grain leather is the only way to go. Just the feeling of the belt is best described as a rolex vs. a casio.
Also - i fit 34" jeans, bought a 34" belt. I fit the 7th hole. Dont know about all this stuff about belts sizing small, unless people just arent being honest with themselves. Also - this belt fits all my dress pants, quite well actually ;)
The best quality I've ever seen.
Very very very cool belt.
Короче, мужики, ремень шикарный!
Берите, не пожалеете.

This belt is awesome! You're just not going to find anything of this quality in any department stores. The color and markings are great and the buckle is high quality.
It's a little stiff at first. I just got mine, but like all quality leather products, it should break in over time.
People have complained about the holes punched close to the end, that doesn't bother me at all. For the investment, I'm glad to have the 3/4" spacing and the extra room to grow/shrink as my waistline is so prone to doing.
One word of caution. This belt is big. It fits all my jeans from Levi Strauss and American Eagle. You couldn't wear this with dress pants or perhaps more trendy jeans. I plan on buying one in black soon.
Thanks for another quality product!
I have been wearing this belt daily for over two years and it is everything it is claimed to be and more. The belt is a little stiff at first and takes a few months to break in. It squeaked for a month or two when first worn but after the break-in period it has been silent. The scarring on the inside of the belt is quite interesting.
Regarding the size, measure your actual waist and talk to customer service about picking a length. I did this and I wear my belt on the exact middle hole. Don't guess or base it on your pant size, measure yourself and talk to them.
The plating on the Chicago screws has worn off and the brass is developing a nice patina. The top two screws have worn in faster than the bottom (perhaps the way the leather moves when I sit and stand) so I swapped them with the two bottom screws after two years and now they are wearing in nicely as well.
This is such a good belt, I was concerned that one would age, or simply degenerate, so I bought a second one .... not too sure what I was thinking - you can only wear one belt at a time. Sure enough, the aging has come, but the belt simply looks better - the 100 years guarantee is real 100%, it is not just sales talk because Saddleback will never have to replace anything they make ..... There is nothing that compares, not even at prices 4 and 5 times greater - not anything, nowhere. This guys stuff is the best that it could be, every single time. These days it is all about making a fast buck, and if that's what you want, head for Gucci, Armarni or other - but if you want something real, made by real people and sold with genuine conviction - buy this stuff. This is a statement of fact.
I purchased the 1.75" black belt.
Description: Casual belt, great with jeans, not suitable as a dress belt, belt buckle not removable, color I would consider black - not as gray as it looks in the picture
Quality: Nice heavy piece of leather, Solid chrome buckle (not shiny)
Sizing: This is where I had the most questions. I wear a size 32 jean and I purchased the 34 belt which is a good size. A 32 belt would have been too small because the end of the belt wouldn't go through the belt loop. A 36 would have been fine as well. My advice would be to size up at least one from your pant size.
This the nicest, best leather I've ever had. I couldn't believe the quality of this belt. Really great leather. It fits and looks great on my jeans as well. Keep up the great work!
The thickness and stiffness of this leather is just outstanding, but when I consider the source, my mind boggles. Some animal was moving underneath a whole hide of this stuff? How?
I just got my old bull belt a couple days ago. I went with the carbon color. This is seriously the best, toughest belt I've ever owned. It fits perfectly in my jeans and the leather is nice and thick. My wife picked it up and was surprised at how heavy it was. It has a very rugged look, definitely more of a casual belt than formal. It could definitely carry a tool belt or a gun holster or anything like that. This is my second purchase from Saddleback and so far I'm a huge fan.
this thing is a tank. when I grabbed it out of the box, I thought it was rolled up a few times. nope, that's just how thick it is. easily 3-4x thicker than any cheap leather belt I've owned previously. I have no doubt it'll last forever. the hardware is solid and bulletproof. the belt is a bit squeaky and really stiff the first few months, but power through and you'll be golden. as far as sizing; I wear a 32 waist, occasionally 33. I opted for the 34 belt, and it's perfect. I'm on the second-to-last hole, and that leaves the perfect length out the other end, while giving me plenty of room to gain weight. which I should... this belt is almost too thick for my skinny self. ha! also keep in mind, it's quite wide, so make sure your belt loops will accommodate it. seriously, make sure.
This belt doesn't ask for respect, it demands it! I think I just purshased the worlds best belt.....Simply the best! A piece of art! The quality and craftmenship is just great!
I am an exceptionally slim guy. With a tape measure, my waist is 31", which means with the "vanity sizing" that goes on here and pretty much everywhere else in the clothing industry, I need a size 28-29" depending on the brand.
Early this year, there were 30" belts offered by Saddleback, but the carbon black was perpetually out of stock, whereas the shades of brown would come in and out. I was holding out for a black 30" when some time around July this year, the 30" size altogether disappeared as an option. I emailed to inquire about the availability of my desired size. The response I received was a succinct, politely worded "tough luck, buddy... your size ain't happening anymore, ever" wherein it was suggested I watch ebay (seriously, guys? ebay?) for this holy grail of leather belts.
Unsatisfied with waiting and hoping for the astronomically unlikely chance to buy this unicorn of a belt from ebay, I bought a 32" version and crossed my fingers that it'd manage to work. Set on the tightest hole, I can still fit 3 fingers wide between the belt and my waist... Any pants I wear it with will have to fit tight enough in the waist not only to hold themselves up, but also to support the substantial dead weight hanging from the belt loops.
Maybe some day, a few years down the road if I injure myself and can't run anymore, I'll gain enough weight to make this belt usable. At this point though, my belt represents $100 completely wasted, and collecting dust in my closet. That's $100 in Saddleback's pocket, so what do they care if my purchase is unusable. (I suppose it could be considered a $100 leather-scented air freshener.) The quality of the materials and the craftsmanship are unsurpassed in my experience, I just wish Saddleback gave more a little more than just the bird to slim guys like myself.
To be clear, the quality is 5 star without a doubt. Their size offerings, plus the response to my inquiry, and no way to request a special order for a smaller size make this belt virtually worthless for men of my build.
(Granted, I don't know how involved the process is for making these belts, I may be way off base here... but would it really be that hard to cut the leather 2" shorter before punching the holes???)
This belt was not my first purchase from Saddleback; however, it will likely be my last.
I bought a Black Bull 1.5 32" belt several years ago and have been waiting quite a while for a 1.75 Brown Bull to become available. I agree that the three holes at the tip of the belt are worthless, perhaps Dave didn't quite do the homework on this (but maybe he used it as an icebreaker topic at Texas garden parties so I wouldn't discount it yet until it is proven otherwise) but despite this minor design issue, the leather feels like it will last at least 100years. One word of caution, however, is that the Chicago screws can come undone - (I lost one and they sent me another one not quite like the original so you need to ensure they are screwed in tight and then squirt Locktite on them or else check periodically for loose screws - on your belt I mean.)
Absolutely solid, fantastic quality, so impressed with this product. I don't think you can get a better belt than this!
Bought the 1.75 inch old bull belt in the original black color... WOW. Bull belt? They should name this the BEAST belt as clearly this was made from the hide of something unnatural. Just by holding it I KNOW Saddleback is right, it is without a doubt the last belt I'll ever NEED. That won't stop me from getting the chestnut and dark coffee versions as soon as I can save up for them though! The belt fits the loops of my jeans without a problem and just feels heavy and solid in your hand. I didn't realize the buckle would be so impressive, definitely a solid piece of hardware. Got the belt in the original black color since I'm not sure if they are going to transition to carbon soon (their current gray/light black color). That and the fact that since Saddleback got rid of the 1.75 inch tow belt before, I'm not sure if the Bull belt will also see that fate one day. Do yourself a favor and just buy this thing now if you really want it. You'll be kicking yourself for years if you don't. Psssh, if you're trying to lose weight and get down a size and are holding off because of that.... just get your current size. You can always add more holes later at a shoemakers shop or on your own once you get to your goal weight.
When I take this belt off at the airport, the TSA agents step back. Its so thick, it may as well be made out of dinosaur hide. My pants stay up out of respect/fear of this belt. Its made from the thickest, toughest leather I've ever seen and it bares the quality and workmanship Saddleback is famous for. You'll never need another one. I bought the 1 3/4 chestnut and it is a wide belt. I'll be buying a black one soon. Great for holsters. I can't say enough about this belt. You better be man enough for this belt...or it just might wear you.
Like a previous review stated the first three holes are useless. Even if it was Thanksgiving I don't see wearing a belt on the last hole with the tail sticking straight out. This doesn't effect me because I wear it tighter but if you plan on wearing this on the first three holes, I would size up. Love the Carbon, great belt, but weird holes. Size appropriately.
This belt is overall pretty good, except that the first two (or three really) holes are unusable. I got the 30 inch and have really had to squeeze into it. The good thing is that it stretches a bit over time, but if in doubt, I would go size up rather than down.
So my belt arrived yesterday. It is a fantastic build that I anticipate will last forever, much like the other two Saddleback items I have recently purchased (passport wallet and the medium bi-fold wallet).
As one reviewer noted there is a flaw which is very apparent in person. The holes of the belt start way too close to the tip/end of the belt. While this belt is above standard in every other facet, I think they've really missed on this one aspect.
I ordered to my pant size and it fits true to size. It fits and feels great. It just doesn't leaving me with the warm and fuzzy feeling knowing that there's a little buffer room to grow if required.
The following examples were completed with the belt out in my hands, not around my waist.
The first hole causes the end to poke straight out.
The second hole lets the end just barely makes it under the provided loop.
The third hole allows about a 1/4 inch of leather fully through the loop, with the angled edge visible on both side of the loop. When on this third hole it looks like the belt is too small and shouldn't be worn by the wearer.
It is not until the fourth hole that the end is satisfactorily tucked with confidence it won't pop out.
This is where most belts start their holes. This means 33% of the holes on this belt are not functional.
Another three inches in length would make this the worlds greatest belt. If there's a chance your waist will fluctuate I would definitely say order a larger size. You may otherwise be left with using another belt. I had hoped that this would be the last belt I would need to purchase but, based on lack of buffer, I'm going to have to keep another around.
I'm sorry it's long winded, but I wanted the explanation to be as thorough and specific as possible.
When I stumbled on this site from God knows where.... I read some of the reviews and decided to give it a go.... I have not been disappointed. The leather is good and sturdy. I have gone through many belts for my 'trying to get outta line midsection' and I keep having to change them. I think I'll be keeping this belt for a long time and I'll be coming back to buy the brown colored belt too.
Also can you please make an iPad Air case too?
