You'd be a wuss if you even think about not adding this to the cart! just buy it trust me! how can you even sleep at night knowing this bag exists and you don't have one?
Wow. Just wow. This bag is one of the "must" owns for any Saddlebacker. Yes I said Saddlebacker. First off, it's very practical in terms of gear, the gym, or the office (I lift weights so I need to carry alot of food to the office). Right now I'm fitting in my agenda's, my 13" laptop (laptops are being issued smaller for portability these days), mini umbrella, pen case, and 3 sets of meals, and a large thermos. This will be even more handy in a Toronto winter that would require gloves, hats, scarves, and a change of shoes from boots etc.
In my opinion, this bag was meant to be in black. I wish the dusty carbon black was still around but I'm happy with the uniform colour. It gives the bag a serious look and feel to it. It reminds me of those old school medical bags that doctors would carry around on house calls. It's that awesome.
This is easily one of SBL's top 10 offerings.
Just got the bag today (in dark coffee brown) and couldn't be happier. The leather is beautiful. I bought this bag to replace a rather boring gym bag; I also wanted a SBL product that I knew I'd use frequently (such as a gym bag). Additionally I was looking for something a little different than your typical gym bag, and this bag certainly fulfills that requirement.
I bought the large size which seems just right for my needs. My running shoes (size 10.5M) fit perfectly in the bottom of the bag, clothes on top, paper workout routines tucked away between the bottom liner and the inside of the bag. Works perfectly.
I'm sure I'll love carrying this bag around. It is beautiful and distinctive.
I got my large Dry Bag, it is so well made! The smell of the leather is so fragrant, the finish to the bag is one of perfection. I never write reviews, I can never be bothered, but this is indeed an exceptional product, its finish, attention to detail and quality is second to none. I feel I have received a family heirloom. I now understand how people buy more products from Dave. I am thinking of getting some mre gear and I haven't hade the bag for more than a few hours. If you are thinking about these bags don't hestiate you will not regret having one. Cheers Steve
I was purchasing a classic briefcase and decided that I needed something to carry my lunch. Well, my plastic/vinyl bag that I was using had given up the ghost right about this time too. I decided this bag was the right dimensions, not too big, not too small, for me to carry all my necessary items, Protein shakes, Pyrex for the salads, and entrees, milk for the shakes, not a small amount of items, plus something to keep them cool and a number of Coke Zeroes for the day, just for survival (I teach junior high).
I stumbled across the videos of people putting ice in some of Dave's bags and seeing how long it would last and how cold it stayed. I was sold! I purchased it and have used it every day for bringing my lunch for the last three years. It's awesome! With the variable height, I can carry anything. I even packed a large number of dry snacks for a trip the family made up to Canada two years ago, and it performed magnificently. Crackers, peanut butter, trail mix and bread all stayed dry and safe in a car of six people for two weeks. It was a joy to use and ample space. It looks as beautiful as the day I purchased it, with just some rubbing marks from where I tend to fold it every day and it rubs along my classic briefcase while walking into work and out. Since this one rolls down, it's always been soft as butter (or butta). I have offered for the wife to use it for her photography equipment too, it would fit it no problem. I'm sorry I missed out on Dave's soft, flexible pads a couple years ago to help with that.
The hard sided interior shell is wonderful too. It's helped save me from a couple small spills, and one incident when a Coke can exploded, without ever reaching the leather. I was pleasantly surprised by that, but if it would have reached it, it would have only added to the character.
Dave, you knocked it out of the park. And the staff of your wonderful company is AMAZING! They make me feel incredible with every contact, and have even given me information about where to visit when I mention where we are traveling. I wish I could remember her name, but she sent me a package of materials about Mount Rushmore and the surrounding areas, knowing we were going to be traveling there in the near future. We had to postpone our trip, but I feel more confident we will have that in hand when we do get there. And when I was trying to make the order for this and the classic briefcase, I wanted to take advantage of the free shipping special you were running at that time. But one of them was out of stock until after the special finished. Your wonderful staff made sure my order went through, I got the shipping (not a lot, but still a good perk) and got me the bags, with hardly any delay. Making me feel like the most important customer in the world. I tell people about your company constantly, not only for the amazing products, but for the wonderful people too.
Keep up the amazing work, Saddleback and Dave Munson! (I'm coveting the Beast Duffel and one of the suitcases now.)
P.S. The warranty is real. Believe it and use it if you need to.
My hubby purchased this bag for me. I have used it as a cross body style purse, a farmers market bag, to carry my grocery store hauls, on day trips, overnight trips, scrapbooking retreats, it's been taken to sports outings- you name it. The first time I placed items in it and did not "roll down" the top, it flipped over and spilled the contents onto the ground. However, that was my fault. Apparently a 15 inch macbook and other items aren't intended to be slung over one shoulder like a regular purse. LOL. I use this bag almost daily because of it's versatility. During our harsh snow storms I have full confidence that my items inside stay protected from the elements.
This was my first bag from Saddleback Leather, and I have to say, it completely ruined my desire to ever buy any more branded leather bags! There is just absolutely no comparison when it comes to the quality of a Saddleback. Shortly after I bought it in the stunning Coffee Brown, the Carbon (which I wanted!) came back in stock, but when I received it, I couldn't bear to return my Coffee! My boyfriend and I have received many many compliments while we took turns to carry it around.
I took it travelling through Canada in the coldest, harshest winter I've ever been through. It survived the sudden hail storm in Niagara, a flying fall down the mountain side in Montreal, and a rocky brush-off when I tripped at the Malecón in Cuba with barely any scratches! Snow and dust never once entered the bag to harm my DSLR camera or its extra sensitive lenses. My only wish is that the bag were lighter, though! At 5'1 and about 100lbs, I'm quite petite. The bag, even with just my cameras, lenses, and travel necessities really wore me out on longer routes and I had to rest more frequently than I'd hoped. Boyfriend (at ~6') had absolutely no complaints about the weight though, so it's probably just because I'm not strong enough for the bag! Saving up for the lighter Simple Tote from Love 41 now, can't wait to purchase more Saddleback!
Saddleback is not selling this as a backpack, but if you look at the video on turning your briefcase into a backpack, it is even easier on this nice bag. Instead of threading the strap through the ring on the briefcase you thread it through the handle and reconnect on the other side. You only have to use the holes near the end of the strap. I am 6'2" 230 lbs, and this was very comfortable and makes an awesome size daypack. This bag is quickly becoming an all around go to bag. I am planning on getting a second shoulder pad just to have two very comfortable pads against my shoulders, although just the strap is very comfortable for me by itself
I've had the large chestnut for about a year. I got it as a Dave's deal. There isn't really anything noticeable wrong with it. The depth of color in the chestnut seems to be a little lacking in this bag compared to other products, but that seems to be the norm from pictures I've seen around the web.
I use this bag to go to the supermarket, as an overnight bag, and sometimes as a work bag. It really can hold a lot of stuff and adapt to your needs.
One tip for those that wish the cinch strap was longer- latch a utility strap onto it. I have a set in medium and one almost doubles the length. I had the bag full nearly to the handles and was still able to buckle it.
I think a key design element that really makes this the biggest small bag I've seen is that YOU DON'T HAVE TO CLOSE A ZIPPER, if you think of this as a compression bag from camping you will understand that you can get way more in it than trying to stuff things into a comparable size duffle.
I bought the large tobacco brown, the leather is soft and supple yet thick and tough, the bottom has an open top boxy liner which I really like, it keeps a shape to help a shirt stay folded squarely and not get rumpled up. The bag will fit an old style box shaving kit, spare khakis, spare shirt, topsiders, underwear, socks and still have room for flip flops, a tee shirt, shorts, and more. The bag used open would even have more room and looks like a beach bag. I take this bag with me to the jobsite and leave it in my car, it holds spare clothes if I have to go back to the office after a day in the heat. The bag keeps out all dust and dirt. I carry my topsiders to put on after a long day with a drive ahead. This could be used as a front carry food bag for big canoe trips clipped onto your shoulder straps and would hold enough food for a week. If i drive to a job accross the state I would carry this, my briefcase and my Large Waterbag. This bag will compress your gear as much or little as you want making a nice tight package, or use like I said earlier open top and carry by the handles. I can see using this in the hotel to carry clothes to the laundry and back. Made from one piece of leather, and the strap goes accross the one seam on the bag as shown in the picture. I highly recommend this bag to keep your spare clothes in your back seat or to do a short overnight trip.
Other saddleback items I have are the large water bag, the Classic briefcase, several moleskine covers, a bifold wallet and some other bags that have been stolen from me, but are still mine, out there somewhere .
I got this bag as an anniversary gift. I have been carrying it as a purse to break it in and it's fabulous. I plan on using it as a carry on for a trip next week and an overnight bag on a regular bases. I can't say enough about how well made the bag its. It's a great think leather and the hardware is heavy duty. I can see myself using this bag for a million things. Also I loved that part of the price goes to helping people in need.
I'm a long time buyer of saddleback products..to date I have classic briefcase, the satchel, simple backpack and most recently the dry bag. I bought the dry bag off of Dave's deals.. if there is a flaw in the bag I have yet to find it...I'm a RN working in an Emergency Dept..as such I carry lots of things I need to use while working...by the way I got the larger dry bag...its well built, I love to stuff various things into this bag
and it handles it all...if I had any complaints it would be to make the cinch strap longer...other than that its an awesome bag and lives up to Saddleback products...before I buy any product I research any available product out there. There is lots of leather companies out there...but none that can match the quality of Saddleback products. My next purchase will be the messenger bag....which I intend to use on my excursions this summer. Oh by the way I might mention the staff of Saddleback Leather. They are cheerful, helpful and just a delight to work with....These products might be a little expensive..but they'll serve you well forever....Not many companies out there like this company....Buy just one product from them and you will be hooked forever.. oh I forgot I have the portfolio large and small...the bible cover and the moleskin cover....
I really can't say enough about this bag. So simple, yet so awesome and versatile. I got this specifically to be my range bag, but I use it for almost everything. I got the large in tobacco brown. I usually go to the range with 5-8 boxes of ammo, 2-3 pistols, eyewear, earmuffs, and some other random stuff, and It all fits in this bag. Even with all that in there it doesn't hurt my shoulder at all. Just so happens that an insert from one of my dad's old camera bags fits nicely in here with about 3 1/2 inches of extra space. All in all, this bag is so great that I'm considering getting another on so that I don't have to change between a range or camera bag. Only thing keeping from doing that, though, is that the more places I take this amazing bag, the more stories it'll have.
Second purchase from SBL (first was a briefcase for my husband).
Pounced on Large Dry Bag in Chestnut on Dave's Deals page when I found out the Waterbags were out of stock. Splurge purchase to attend a sales training meeting. Holds four days' worth of clothes--tightly packed--a hair straightener, cosmetics bag, and a pair of sandals.
[The bag] received a lot of double takes in the airport and as I put it in the overhead bin. Overheard "That is a cool bag!", etc. On the return trip, as I waited for the airport shuttle at 4:30 a.m., a fellow traveler commented, "I love your luggage; it's so Southwestern! May I ask the brand?" I was glad for the business cards that arrive with each shipment!
Nicely done, SBL!
I use it as a camera bag and it works great. I've got some thin neoprene pouches for my lenses and and I can really fill it up with a lot. Not the quickest way to get to my gear but I don't have to worry about anything getting wet, or zipper getting caught stuff, or Velcro making noises...
Also, it (Medium size) perfectly holds 12 tasty beverage bottles if you're looking for a really nice cooler. :)
I took a chance and got the Carbon, I'm not usually a black leather guy but it looks amazing and I'm glad I went with it.
Yep, number 4! After purchasing an iPad case years ago, I decided I wanted a dry bag. Waited for months for it to be available in tobacco. Use it all the time, tons of compliments on it wherever I go. About a month ago I started some early holiday shopping and bought 2 more for my business partners (can't wait to give them to the guys).
A couple of weeks ago a buddy of mine treated me to an amazing trip to Vegas. He commented on my bag a few times so when we got home I hopped back on the website and ordered one for him too - he should be getting it any day now.
After the dry bag I treated myself to a front pocket briefcase and a pouch.
Every piece is a work of art. I'm addicted. Just deciding what the next piece will be.
Keep the videos coming Dave, they are great and make me feel even better about the quality and value of your products!
Yet another sweet item from THE leather experts. Was able to get this large Dry Bag at the 35% off deal and am I ever happy I did. This thing will serve as just about anything. Overnight bag, cooler, shopping bag. Whatever your hearts desire. If SBL is getting rid of this model, I'm glad I got it. Very nice and very useful! Another notch in my leather belt. Thanks SBL!
I have both sizes of dry bags. The small one I employ as my insulin and medicine case, while I travel. The large one is excellent for a week end or carry-on bag.
The materials and workmanship are very good.
Like most of the other people have said, this is an exceptional bag. I carry it whenever and wherever I can. The leather feels, smells, and looks amazing. I obsessed over the website for months while waiting for the large dry bag to become available in tobacco, and when it came it was everything I expected. You WILL get stopped and asked about it.
Browsing the site now deciding which will be my second piece. Leaning towards the front pocket briefcase vs the front pocket backpack.
Although I am an atheist, I appreciate Dave's convictions and spirituality. I was delighted to hear how part of the purchase price went to supporting important good works like wells for clean water in Africa (especially since my son recently became involved with Project Thirst at his college).
Great man, great company, phenomenal product.
If you are remotely considering purchasing something, do it now. You will not regret it.
I see a lot of leather...quality matters to me greatly! I prefer to buy something once & not live with regret. So, as a horse person, I was curious as to how my Dry Bag would actually be upon arrival...would it live up to the reviews, representations etc....OH YES!!!! The leather is high-quality. The hardware is located intelligently & not excessively...this bag does not look like an Edward Scissorhandy bag...the pig-skin inset is key to maintaining the form of the bag....& I love it. I bought a large carbon-coloured creation....here's the capacity: I can fit a dressage bridle, dressage girth, pashmina, phone, wallet, digital camera, hair brush, dressage pad AND my mac book pro into this bag...that means one trip from the car with this bag & my saddle is all that is needed. So, I bought another large in Tobacco...one for my brown boot days...& I justify the carbon, which covers my black boot days! This bag WILL age very nicely & truly is the perfect bag for carrying a massive amoutn of stuff in, while looking stylish. Interestingly, it does, as dave shows in the video...roll down & buckle up into a completely secure, reasonably-sized bag for functioning as a classy purse (which is what I wanted), your normal woman-stuff, such a lipstick, parfum, tictacs, books etc WILL NOT FALL OUT!...So, yes...you can buy this bag & not give a 2nd thought to leather quality. Thanks Saddleback...from a happy horsetrainer.
This was the first Saddleback product I ever bought. I purchased the large Dry Bag in Tobacco Brown. Wow, what a beautiful bag, with gorgeous scarring. The leather is so thick and quality so heavy, it's gonna take some time to "break in" your bag. These are built for the long haul.
I have used this daily and love the versatility of this bag. I also took it the the gun range and carried two full cans of ammo and three pistols. If you know anything about ammunition, this is heavy! It was so heavy, my shoulder was hurting, but the Dry Bag stood the test with no problem. Quality is bulletproof! Ha! I get lots of comments about the look and quality of the bag. When you're manipulating the bag, the shoulder strap sounds and feels like horse tack. Seriously, that's how heavy duty it is. Lots of people think it's an antique bag. The reason they think it's an antique, is because THEY DON'T MAKE BAGS OF THIS QUALITY and character anymore. I love the large Dry Bag and will be purchasing the medium Dry Bag this year.
I have got it today, it looks fantastic exactly what I had in mind. good job guys .
I love this bag to bits. It is sturdy and stylish. I take it camping and shopping and it is not out of place at either time. These products are truly functional art. My only complaint is that the screw on the carabiner style connector on the long strap frequently works itself loose and comes off of the bag while in use.
Got the small bag in tobacco on Dave's Deal's. I just love it. My SB big leather wallet fits standing on its end. I can fit so much stuff in this bag - or very little and fold it over. I carry it to church, out to eat, doctor appts. and other short jaunts. Because there is no shoulder strap on the small bag, I don't carry it to the mall or all day outings. The leather is thick and beautiful and the discontinued tobacco color is gorgeous! Will be back for the medium on Mother's Day.
This is my first of four products to arrive (also bought a front pocket backpack, a water bag, and a bible cover - tried to get a wallet too but my bank shut down my card for my suspicious activity :) ). This bag is from ebay though, in the old black color. I definitely like the more rustic appearance I expect on my water bag compared to this solid black bag but the quality is awesome, I'm impatient, and the black was on backorder...perfect storm for an ebay search. Anyway, incredible bag that I bought for my camera and assorted electronics on trips but primarily for tackle and a daily lunchbox...its so versatile! No need to see how it holds up, so evident already.
