Look who carries a satchel. Indiana Jones and George Washington did. Almost every man in the Civil
War wore one. Mick Jagger does. So does Lennox Lewis, Tom Hanks, P. Diddy and even David Beckham
(the man who just signed a 5 year $250 million soccer deal and the man with the most masculine fashion
sense on planet Earth). The list of sharp dressed men who wear satchels goes on. I absolutely love mine.
Snap one on your Saddleback Leather briefcase as an added accessory.

Simple and
strong. It has long solid pieces of full grain leather with an
adjusting buckle between them. It can sustain a lot of weight. Look out
for cheaper bags whose straps are made up of several short pieces glued
together. This has a D-ring riveted on each end that the clips of the
bag attach to (avoid sewn on shoulder straps that you constantly have to
untwist). The strap is
adjustable to go across the chest or just over the shoulder. I’m 6’ 3”
and 215 lbs. and mine fits me fine. My wife, Suzette, is 5' 3" and 105
lbs. and hers fits very well too.

The clips
are attached to the satchel so they can attach to the D-rings on the
shoulder strap or to the D-rings on the side of the briefcase too. It
is made this way so that the satchel can be attached to a number of
other things you’d not think you could.

In 1991, a
5000 year old man was found frozen in the ice with a small satchel/pouch
hung on him. They obviously preferred a satchel to pockets even 5000
years ago. Obviously, they didn’t have any zippers,
snaps or buttons. Those things break after a few hundred uses. You'd
really have to work at breaking this one. Did you know that
Russian men have worn oversized leather wallets they strap around their
wrists and arms for centuries.

You can
order this satchel in four different colors. You'd be surprised at how
much time and thought I put into choosing just the right thickness,
color, tone and texture. It ended up being about a three year process.
When I finally decided on these, I had a definite peace that these were
the exact leathers we needed to use from now on. I personally love each
of them.

I was
walking through a dusty little medina in some small town in North Africa
when a thin little man with a turban on his head popped out of his shop
to display his wares. Holding a little satchel, all he said was,
"Look! Look!" as he pulled a little pouch opened and closed with this
little closure. This guy was really into it. Well, I thought it was so
cool that then and there I bought my very first satchel. I didn't like
the satchel all that much, but I loved the closure and incorporated it
into my design. It's very simple, unique and just plain cool. Look at
it. Have you ever seen one like it?

It is 6”
wide and 8” tall so you can easily fit your hand in and an airline
ticket too. Beware of satchels that are too small, and impractical
because of their size. This one is big enough to carry all the small
things I need, but not too big to be in the way. By the way, when you
get it, stuff really full with something hard and let it stretch for a
day or so. Leather stretches and forms to what you want it to.
(Once in
Belize, I noticed that my friend’s highly stylish wife brought only one
of her dozens of purses with her. It was the same size as this, but
made of cloth. She said that she chose that one because she didn’t want
to worry about it. We all raced our horses through the Mahogany and
Teak forests and through the rivers and then walked across a high and
narrow suspension bridge every day and she didn’t even notice her pouch
was there.)

Made of an
oil-tanned Full Grain leather (the strongest and best leather there
is). Watch out for cheaper top grain, genuine and bonded leathers (To
understand the differences, click here. They usually spray paint
those leathers so they look like Full Grain. Those will look shabby
after only a short time. This will only look better every time you use
it and much better after 30 years (Full Grain ages very well). The
leather is thick enough so it won’t look like a small lumpy bag of
potatoes when it's full.

Built to
last longer than you, with rivets at all stress points and very thick
nylon thread to give it longevity and a cool textured look. Cheap
items are sewn together with less expensive cotton thread that
rots fairly quickly. When a manufacturer saves .20 cents each on
100,000 small satchels by using cheap thread, it really adds up.
The bag is
lined with suede (no cheap fabric that tears on the inside and makes
your coins and whatnot disappear under the lining). Suede only hardens
and toughens with time.
